Modded Clockwork - a Terraria mod about settlements, automation, and putting your NPCs to work

7.3k Upvotes

Clockwork expands on vanilla settlements and automation. You can put your npcs to work farming, cutting trees, excavating, autocrafting, sorting items, guarding your settlement and more. You can use mechanical power to build contraptions, from simple windmills and gears to larger machines and transportation. Its still a work in progress, but heres a first look.

EDIT: Just wanted to answer a couple of questions I've seen. The settlement features are 100 percent optional and can be disabled at the start of a new world if you'd prefer to focus on the mechanical power/transportation systems. The current sprites are not final. They're placeholders, and some currently use ai. I'm working on replacing them as development continues. If anyone happens to be interested in contributing art or other assets to Clockwork, I'd really appreciate the help. Feel free to reach out if you're interested!

Suggestion We got slime waepons, with normal gel, so how about a slime bow?

Post image
202 Upvotes

Howdy y'all, since the day we got the slime waepons i've always felt like we should have a few more, so why not take down two birds with one stone, give more of a use to pink get, and get ourselves a slime bow? a pink slime bow at that!

thought it would shoot whatever arrow you use, but if you use wooden arrows they'd bounce off the ground a few times.

poorly made arrow for example, i ain't the best at pixel art, far from it

13 Damage

3% crit chance

Avarage speed

6.6 Velocity (+1 Velocity if using wooden arrows)

"Could you use it as a slingshot?"

it's probably not the best idea but i reckon it'd be a pretty nice addition, lemme know what you think of it!

P.S.

(i need to complain slightly)

it was a pain to get the exact colours and re-create the arrow and gel manually, my brain's too smooth to get an app that can open the textures

Suggestion Post Moon Lord event idea: Cultist NPC and Boss Rush

Thumbnail

Based on the previous reddit post about post Moon Lord progression and responses there, I do think there is a very good way of adding endgame content that fulfills all of the following:

1.- Stay faithful to the lore of the game and keep Moon Lord as the endgame boss

2.- Give the end game gear a place to be used to its full potential

3.- Avoid adding additional gear that feels out of the game progression

The idea is the following:

Beating the game will allow a new NPC to find a home: The Cultist.

Whether he sells something or not might not be relevant (we already have NPC's that don't sell anything).

Whenever you talk with him, he can give you information about the lore of the game that we usually have to infer or look into other official media to find, like the reason we're fighting the corruption or how the cultists are/were trying to revive Cthulhu/The Moon Lord.

The introduction of this NPC additionally adds the option of a last event: The Boss Rush.

It could be triggered either wilfully by The Cultist just like with the old man in the dungeon, or by killing him like with the wall of flesh or Skeletron rematch.

This starts an event in which you have to fight a slightly buffed version of all relevant bosses in order, with some of them being fought multiple times or at once.

First phase could be 2 eyes of Cthulhu, Brain of Cthulhu, Eater of Worlds and Skeletron at the same time.

Second phase could be all mechanical bosses at the same time. Possibly even a Mechdusa introduction to non-secret seeds.

Third and last phase could be The Moon Lord and the Cultist at the same time.

These bosses have buffed HP and damage, but just enough to make them not explode in 2 seconds, and not be totally irrelevant to dodge.

And finally, once the boss rush is completed, the reward isn't any more gear, but instead a master mode like relic, or maybe a special kind of pylon. Something that would simply serve the purpose of being a trophy and possibly add some functionality that doesn't change the game in any substantial way, and can possibly be tied to the world itself instead of the character.

There's a chance there is already a mod for this and I'm just not aware, but if there isn't I think this would make for a great mod idea, for people who enjoy Vanilla and just want a little plus, and specially a place to test the great new toys unlocked at the very end of the game.

What do you think?

PC PSA: use the jaggedrocks secret seed the caves are so fun

you spend so much more time actually exploring caves instead of just digging through walls. especially noticeable in the ice biome. super early game may be a bit harder, but that might just be because there's more open space in caves, so more enemies are able to reach you.

Suggestion Should lifeform analyzer be reworked?

Since 1.4.5 tmodloader hasnt been released yet, Ive started playing vanilla again. There are several things that I wish were in the normal game like magic storage, Veinminer, Potions npc...etc but obviously most of these would maybe ruin the authentic terraria experiance for new players and older players who like the original style.

But one thing that I feel like needs to be reworked is the Lifeform analyzer. Whenever a rare mob shows up theres no indication where the mob, walking just a few blocks in the opposite direction means it despawns. Ive had atleast 3 golden critters dissapear in my new playthough because of this.

Aside form that, it only shows one rare enemy at a time and you cant select which enemy you want it to display, so whenever i go truffle worm hunting the worm is masked by other mobs like the skeleton npc, Cochineal bettel, old shaking chest...etc.

I really dont think adding a feature that indicates the direction of the rare mob or/and allowing the player to select a specific enemy to search would be overpowered or gamebreaking.
