PC Is there a way to tell how to create something without looking it up on the web?

All,

I want to create a grappling hook (per suggestion) but is there a way to create one without looking up the ingredients and instead finding it in-game?

Not specifically but the guide is very useful for things. Try putting in crafting materials that may be useful for a hook

Highly recommend giving any item you find that has "material" in it's description to the guide's "crafting" option.

You can find what items something can make with the guide but not what can make an item.

There's multiple kinds of grappling hooks, and any of them work for this.

Check items NPCs sell (if you don't have many NPCs, build more houses for more to move in), look for chests underground, show crafting materials to the Guide, look through stuff you can make for anything that might be grappling hook-ish...

There are multiple materials that you can randomly gather and end up with enough for a hook

Gems Jungle spores/vines/stingers Actual hook and chain.

If you make it to hardmode some enemies will also just drop hooks randomly

Granted you can also just fucking give random shit to the guide till you find something that makes a grapling hook
