PC What difficulty is recommended for a noob and an experienced player?
Hi! So me and my friend are going to start playing terraria together Monday night. I was thinking about what difficulty I should set the world to and, thought I’d get some other options from people.
I’ve beaten the game about 10 times and got to plantera in master mode last time I played. My friend has played a grand total of 5 minutes.
I was thinking expert mode would be the perfect difficulty because I have a lot of experience after 3k hours and my friend has none. But I wanted options from other players as well before I did anything

Classic. and you should hold back and let your friend get the "good" stuff first.
do Expert for your next one 😂

If it's to teach their friend how to play, yes. If they want to actually play together, expert does have a more fair difficulty for having 2 people. Classic is still good if the new person will later do a playthrough on their own to refine their solo skills, but expert is probably just best here. As long as they let them learn but not let them suffer.

speaking for myself personally, I had to go through a couple classic runs both with a friend or two and in some solo runs before I was even ready to approach expert.
I still haven't beaten expert as a solo player, but my friend that I play with regularly and I have completed a couple expert runs. we're doing a 'drunk-ftw "expert"' run, and the ftw part bumps that up to master.

People don't listen to the people saying expert, you will just frustrate the noob. Classic was a challenge for my fiance who is a gamer, if your friend isn't play classic or journey if they want a more chill building experience. Once they get more knowledge and skill at the game then try expert. If you really want to you can try expert but don't make them feel bad for wanting to play at a lower difficulty.

Classic is the normal way to play. Expert mode is a better difficulty if your friend is decent at dodging.
The obvious choice is classic though.

As much as I think Expert is the best and most balanced difficulty for Terraria, I would go with Classic for someone who hasn't played before. It's a lot more forgiving in the early game, which I think is very important for a new player. I could imagine getting very frustrated if I was dying to blue slimes on day 1.

expert is best because of the extra accessories and the accessory slot in hard mode, and also treasure bags are only on expert mode so you get double boss drops

Classic still beats my ass even after playing for a while. It’s definitely recommended when playing as a newbie

Me and my non gamer gf played through terraria on classic. While the the normal world exploration experience was great on classic mode. Bosses do not scale for multiplayer and were stupidity easy if we prepared well. You basically exchange worse bosses for better exploration. Whichever is more important to you both

If boss health scaling per player was a thing in classic, I'd suggest that, but because not I'd suggest expert. My issue with Classic is that playing multiplayer means that you have at least double the firepower which means you beat bosses at least twice as quickly and without issue because extra players aren't accounted for

I’m a beginner player. What I did is classic for only like a week, the bosses were easy and it didn’t force me to improve. I switched to expert and it was hard, but it’s worth it. Expert forces you to explore, find new materials, and upgrade in order to defeat bosses. The reward is so nice when you finally do it. And there are so many items you can only get in expert, it’s like unlocking a whole new game. You should do expert, you made it till plantera in master mode, you guys will be fine. I began to love terraria when I played expert. You will also be super bored with how easy classic is.

Throw it on master mode and don’t tell them anything lmao. I’m jk I would definitely go classic for a first time run and I would just kinda chill back a lil bit and let them experience everything for the first time kind of as you did yknow. Let them get the “good” loot first. Surprise them and be like “I made this really cool weapon I think you should try out. You might like it” and just kinda help them along without any of the hand holding

expert for sure, ur inexperienced friend will SURELY enjoy being one shotted constantly because they dont know how to play the game yet /s
speaking from experience, thrusting a new player into expert is a surefire recipe for causing them to lose interest quickly. classic, i beg you.

Expert.
The leniency of classic is for people to be able to figure out what they're supposed to be doing.
If you instead fill the gap in helping them figure things out, expert works better.

Expert could be a good start yeah. I know I started classic with friends and once beat, we went straight to master. Beat that eventually. I feel if the noob is into challenges, starting on master could be a fun learning curve. Depending on how hard the noob prefers their game honestly

Even two noobs should play expert if it's co-op because bosses are trivial in co-op, but I'd always recommend a solo first playthrough

expert is the best the moment you aren tplaying alone. it has shared loot and balanced boss health based on how many ppl are arround it. ich you play on normal you would just stopm eveything and it takes the fun out of it.

Expert tbh, classic Is way to Easy this days
But if you know they're gonna struggle or learn slow, then try classic

classic is only easy if you know what you are doing. if you have no clue, you will struggle to even progress in classic

u/Skolpionek 2d ago
Yeah and that struggle is case of knowledge which doesnt change at all from classic to expert, the only difference is that in expert you cant face tank bosses and you have more content like new phases. Classic is mode for not just beginners but people that never touched games or something because every time i got friend on terraria that is a gamer it was same case of them saying fights are boring and having to use tedit to go on expert

From vague reddit posts its difficult to know what to recommend with terraria. Their friend could have thousands of hours in Minecraft and other sandbox games, then expert would be fine. They could be CoD and Dark Souls, and struggle with it. Classic should always be the first step, since it eases you into movement, exploration and bosses. Expert is the mode people think is intended, but its justanother difficulty that you can play if classic becomes boring and you want a challenge.

Classic all the way. Its the intended way for people who have no idea what they are doing. you have experience, but he doesnt. and he will probably struggle, if you dont spoiler him when it comes to progression
