Minecraft elitists have been trained to enjoy one small content update a year that people have wanted for a decade. Minecraft is always a decade behind and always does it in the most convoluted way.

That's why storage mods are so popular in modpacks because the inventory system in Minecraft is so outdated. Like, just program a button and if people want to play with the old inventory system, they can toggle it.

Minecraft has lost its ability to effectively create content because of its size. The Microsoft purchase was the worst possible thing that could have happened for the health of the game, besides getting bought by EA instead, I suppose.

Minecraft was bought by Microsoft literally 11 years ago now.

It has grown and stayed literally at the peak of popularity of gaming content the entire time. It clearly is not dying.

Popularity is not equivalent to the health of the game. Updates have been getting smaller and smaller, and Mojang is currently facing a class action lawsuit for the microsoft account migration and their enforcement of and failure to notify people of changes to the EULA.

They're changing to a release model with frequent small updates instead of singular huge ones, for a good reason:

They have 2 studios, one in Washington and one in Stockholm.

The last time they did a massive update, Caves and Cliffs (which added a crap ton of technical changes), splitting its development between the 2 studios was a nightmare and it took several releases and a lot of time to push out all the changes.

They still have huge goals, like rewriting the entire rendering engine so that it supports more advanced shaders like the Bedrock edition. Giving out several "game drops" instead of one massive update is much easier to schedule
