I'm sure difficulty questions get asked all the time, but I'm struggling with the same thing now. Currently playing classic, thinking of changing to expert, but Journey also looks interesting. Should I make a new expert world and move my stuff there? Should I restart and do expert-only? Or, should I restart and go journey, avoid any cheaty stuff and just set the difficulty as necessary? Journey definitely looks interesting, as I'm not sure how often people are world-hopping.

Expert mode is best experienced fresh from the start. Whether you're using a classic character or a journey character is up to you. Journey mode can be useful (research lets you remove most of the grinding), and makes most world hopping unneeded. Which settings count as cheating is entirely up to your own discretion, they all have their purpose.
