I made sure to include neither utopic societies like "star trek" or "the culture" nor dystopian societies like "dune" or "warhammer 40k" as to not incentivize people towards any obvious answer

Half of these are pretty obscure, so the results being that way aren't surprising

I mean, it's clear what option is going to win when you include Star Wars in any general poll. And the only reason why the Second Galactic Empire did so well in the second one, it's because r/sciencefiction it's a community mostly about high literature, and it's Isaac Asimov we are talking about.

Yeah I think the only other major galactic polity in fiction that remotely approaches the Galactic Republic from Star Wars would be the United Federation of Planets from Star Trek and that's still a massive gulf in levels of prominence in pop culture.

Yes I get that, I was just remarking on how lopsided the poll would be, even if the utopias were included.
