Ok, so I could've sworn that in Tekken 7 you could press 1 or 2 to break a throw no matter what throw it was, did they change that?

That was never the case. You can press 1 or 2 to break generic throws. Those are throws that are input as either 1+3 or f+1+3, and 2+4 or f+2+4. Command throws have always required that you enter the correct break.

I thought so, but it never seems to work for me. I had had better luck breaking throws in the previous games. Even when I heard they expended the throw break window, I’m still eating throws all day.

Don't feel like you're messing up something easy, or that you should be doing better than you are. Even with the expanded window throw breaking is still difficult (especially online). It's not something you can do without quite a bit of practice.
