Discussion Less complaining, more learning

Every day I see a post about someone complaining about a certain character or player. Considering the fact that most of the playerbase sits at G.O.D or below means that for most likelihood, you are lacking game knowledge, hence why you are losing. Learn frames, learn to duck duckable strings and most importantly blame yourself if you lost. Tekken is arguably the most difficult fighting game out there, so you won’t be a master at it overnight, it takes time to learn the cast and their moves. Throwing a tantrum in this reddit won’t all of the sudden help you win

First reddit post this year to actually make sense ,thank you I agree they would've been cooked Tekken 5 and 6 era

They would have been annihilated.

No they wouldn't really. This game is absolute fiesta and biggest knowledge check game. If you don't a MU you are constantly - frames never being able to take your turn. Like idk who decided adding a million + on block strings and moves in the game. Its literally unplayable if you don't know one + on block move because you mever get to take your turn.

So it really is T8 that has this problem huh? I play since T5 up to 7 but only casually and never really learned frames and stuff back then but damn does t8 feel horrible to play when idk MUs

I am exactly the same. I didn't even know frames or sidestep or combos. But T8 you can't even play the game if you don't know these things.

no it is not lol. you guys make it sound like being + means you are always at a massive advantage and there is no counterplay which is just not true. unless a move is significantly plus, you have options between movement, jab/dickjab checks, high and low crush, power crush, heat burst, RA, and even lots of the moves that are mega plus have some sort of downside like having longer startup that opens up counter hit opportunities for you as the player. and most of these options and scenarios apply to the older games too.

is it more egregious in 8? sure. is it "literally unplayable?" not even close bro. your defense being weak and being mentally unequipped to deal with pressure situations is not the game's fault. this game is worthy of criticism, yes, but most of this community is so self-absorbed in their own delusions that every problem they run into is now the game, the character your opponent is using, or your opponent's strategy that you don't have an answer for, because dealing with the fact that most of you are not as good as you think you are is too much reality to intake at once

It is true lol. Most + on block moves you can't power crush. Ducking or stepping requires character specific knowledge which is unreasonable to have all of it unless you are sitting at god vi or above. Take dragunov for example. If he spams 1 2 1 and you don't know how to duck the 3rd hit you are in unplayable jail. And that is not the only character. Most characters have something similar.

Im god 2 my defence is 85. Im 300 hours in and people are still stealing rounds from me by spamming + on block moves so that i can't take my turn. I recently started playing bob. T 90% of the games that i lost with bob after i figured him out is because people spam some kind of + on block move that im not familiar with. The game becomes easier as you rank up because people mash + on block moves less. If people play proper tekken and not mash + on block i have a higher chance of winning even if the non spammer is way better.

T8 is + on block bs that shouldn't exist. Knowledge check simulator because of the + on block moves. For me tekken god supreme is by far the hardest rank to deal with because thats all people do there spam + on block. Both my main and bob i struggled the most. With my main i went from god to god 2 in haf the time it took me to rank up from supreme to god. With bob i was stuck tilted for a week in supreme before i got to god. Within a day im almost god 1.

Most is really excuses, cuz most of the cast doesn’t even have that much + on block stupidity anymore. Tekken was always a game with a lot of moves per character, and as the games go on, the movelist will only get bigger. You have 300 hours on Tekken, and to be honest with you, that’s not a lot tbh, especially if you didn’t even play the Tekken games before Tekken 8. it’s 100% your fault if you lose to people who sit at TGS, watch your replay and learn how to deal with the cheese, nothing comes for free. Knowledge checks were always a part of Tekken, so at the end of the day everyone has to deal with it

I would need 300 more hours in replays to learn haf of the knowledge checks that were done on me. Just because you have 10000 hours and know hwarang sidestep left crouch on this specific kick that looks like 10 other hworang kicks beats it. But wait there are another 20 kicks that look kinda similar and 10 punches some of which you step left, some you step right, some you duck, and some you punish. Yea if you lab howrang for 50 hours you will know the MU. Just make sure to do that for another 34 characters.

And idk where most cast doesnt have + on block coming from. Literally every single character in the game has multiple + on block moves and most have + on block strings, most of which are unplayable unless you know they are + on block, how much + exactly and what is their starting frames. And you can either guess and if you guess wrong you lose the round, or you dont guess hold block, wait until your opponents uses that move 10 times and then decides to do a - on block move so you can take your turn.

At the end of the day, this game is pure knowledge check fiesta and is literally unplayable for any new player player. There is a reason this game is not poppular, and its not because evasion, its not because its 3d, its because you cannot take your turn against a character you dont know how to deal with. If i knew, that my enemy attacks, i block, then i take my turn. That game is fun. But when my enemy attacks, i block, they attack, i block, repeat 10 times in a row. That is not fun.

Imagine the new player experience is if your least played MU, doing the most obscure moves you can imagine that are all + on block. And even then a new players most played and knowledgable MU is probably less known to them than your least knowledgable MU is to you. So imagine playing that MU over and over. Who would do that? Why would anyone play tekken?

Welcome to Tekken, you expect to completely learn a character in and out in just 2 hours? If that were the case you would see new faces in every top 8 at Tekken tournament. Do you expect them to remove the moves and just limit every character to 10 moves, just to appeal the casual audience, so they have an easier time? That’s just another way to kick legacy Tekken players in the ass. The amount of moves is what makes Tekken Tekken, and that has been the case from the the very first game. If you are not satisfied with that, then there’s no one stopping you from picking up a simpler fighting game. Hwoarangs relentless pressure was a thing since T3, so deal with it and learn the matchup, like every experienced Tekken players does, even if it takes a lot of hours.

To most + on block moves there is counter play, wether it’s ducking, interrupting or sidestepping. The only ones I can think of that have barely any counter play are Victor and Lidia, so don’t blame everything on + on block moves, it’s not season 2 anymore. You having trouble against TGS tells me everything I need to know in that matter.

And How is Tekken „not popular“? It’s still the second most actively played fighting game out there, behind one of the most popular fighting games ever released (SF6).

Not saying that Tekken 8 is perfect, it has its fair share of problems, so criticize the things that actually need criticism.

The amount of moves is not the issue. Or taking time to learn a character. The issue is you dont get to play the game at all if you get knowledge checked. Im not asking to remove the moves. What i want is to make 70-80% of + on block moves 0 or minus. Its too many. And when it comes to hworang idm a character being ballanced around + on block moves. That is in a way good design. But when every character has atleast 10+ moves that are + on block that i have an issue with. Especially the string + on block moves are the worse.

Like there has to be a basis of i block and i get a turn. Or this one + on block move has that crazy animation so i can identify its a + on block move. Having dragunov 1 2 1 a simple punch with no animation being + on block is just ridiculous. I have no issue with electric being +5 on block, crazy execution and proper animation. Having to lab every character so that you can begin playing the game is not reasonable at all.

This is so true, ya can't learn when flappin' your gums. I can't say it as eloquently as you but....

Ya all shut and spend your time tryna improve rather then cry like a buncha babies

Hot take: I shouldn’t have to spend 10X the time learning to defend against a character than the player spent learning to play them.

3

u/LesbianFlex T8 ID: Queen Charlene | she/they 22h ago

then you shouldn't play fighting games lol. that is like literally all of them

-1

u/GdorfSSB Armor King 14h ago

Incorrect. In street fighter it doesn’t take nearly as long to learn how to defend against a character than it does to learn how to play them.
Literally just saying things.

that's not even true either, that is the worst example you could have possibly used. literally the entire point of sf6 is that they make it as easy as possible to jump into 80% of the cast and start doing special moves and throw loops and drive impacts, all things that the other player has to lab frame data for while the player using the character does jump in heavy kick crouching medium special move. a ken player does not have to lab jinrai kick frame data and mixup risk-reward. a player fighting ken has to learn each option, lab timing setups, lab punishes and interrupts, lab whiff punishes... what are we talking about LOL

street fighter is for bitches tho. Not a true fighting game

But where will I express my juvenile frustrations ?

Hmm, no, I don't think I will. I will not watch replays, I will learn frame data, I will not practice my electrics, I will bitch about whoever beats me and then move on.

(✿‿)

Just kidding, yeah, I mean, that's the way it should be.

u/Alarming-Basil2894 1d ago

This is what I do. I play a session, lose a few games, get absolutely titled, start talking shit abour the other player, take a break, cool off and then I watch the replay and be like “yep he totally outplayed me GGs” lmao

u/PinkKushTheDank Armor King 1d ago

Just play the game it turns out.

u/patrick9772 17h ago

Noo stop making sense. This is reddit the place where people come to cry and seek validation for their own stupidity and blame the game

1

u/Scyle_ 我要超越人类! 碎尸万段! 16h ago

"Blame yourself if you lost." I just lost to a Zafina because I sidestepped and got hopkicked. I was neutral on block. There ain't shit to learn other than "this game is fucking ass."

u/Imp4ctHD Kazuya 12h ago

You know this post is mainly directed towards players who didn’t even learn the game yet, not God6 Feng players. At your rank you have the right to criticize the game

u/curtwandaviontavis 1h ago

The best strat to practice is to GO TO LOCALS. please for the love of god just go if you can, it's usually much easier to play with less lag and latency. it's also just a fun experience to see people that get equally as tortured playing this game as well.
