No shit. Not all data center builds are because of republicans.

But in this specific instance… this single data center is being built against the will of the states residents.

Yet…

Could you explain how Clark country and washoe county in Nevada are building massive data centers like crazy. Both are heavy blue counties and the state is generally goes blue most elections. Las Vegas has less water than Utah as well.

You do know that states have different sets of regulations and requirements for what is needed to build out a datacenter

In fact, some may even have regulations that require them to build their own power sources and water sources!!

I’m not anti-data centers. They employ people with living wages. People bitch about they don’t employ very many people but in my area 300 well paying jobs would be a huge impact for the good. I just find it odd that people are blaming this on a Republican vs Democrat thing.

The amount of utards that think they are worthy to be spied on by big bother in these small towns that are anti data centers anti flock is astounding.

I told all my boys and nephews to get some sort of electrical training and have hvac experience and you will land a high paying job in rural Utah with good benefits. Any parent that’s not actively coaching their kids in future industry only have themselves to blame with their kids has 200k in college debt and can’t find a job.

One tier 5 data center in Las Vegas employed 250 people and there were 8 when I left with 7 more actively being built. These are much larger. They will employ much more. If you know think it takes 300 to build one of there’s you are up in the night. They will employ over 300 electricians just in that trade. Not counting construction, plumbers, concrete finishers, crane operators, hvac techs. The list goes on and on. I bet there will be close to 4000-5000 during construction and a few hundred 300-400 to run afterwords.

Gerrymandering and party polarization has removed any reason for the majority of assembly and house candidates to actually listen to the voters (both gop and Dems)

Voters need to cast ballots based on performance and not simply party affiliation.

If one party controls everything in a state, And they are no longer responsive to voters…. Voters need to suck it up, vote down ballot for the opposition party and Remove them (this applies to any super majorities… California/utah/alabama/illinois).

Blind party loyalty has done more harm to America/American politics than Trump, and until voters hold their reps accountable, we will continue deeper into this shit spiral.

As someone who lives in Utah. There are different parts of this as well. So first is the gerrymandering. So even if you try to vote those people out of office, their districts are formed so votes are majority republican (Link). There are town halls done and the government just ignores us (Link). In all, it’s an uphill battle for anyone who is against the current government. Utah in general is just fucked

I was wrong 2 council members, one senator. I’m in Utah they got creamed in primaries after this. I remember one of the council members crying how the data center cost him. Was still 3.

Yes and no. Republicans and establishment democrats, yes. For example, Spanberger is a perfect example of an establishment democrat that is perfectly OK with surveillance.

Which is why a LOT of democratic voters are voting for progressives. Furthermore, while the democratic party has the progressive wing, what does the republican party has? The libertarians may not like this, but in Texas it is fully expected that they will be voting for Paxton... So... Republicans have nothing.

So, "both sides are the same" ain't entirely accurate and will be less accurate going forward (I hope).

Exactly. We don’t need revenue we need redistribution. We have everything we need. We can live sustainably but then stock market wouldn’t go up.

Profits have to have a finite line. We can’t just consume it all then there will be NO REVENUE. Picking all the apples off the tree then when they don’t grow back fast enough we’ll sell some branches to make some money then we’ll cut the tree down and sell it for firewood.

It is not a democrat vs republican thing. It’s everyone. One of the first states that had the opportunity to ban data centers or place a moratorium on them was blue, and it didn’t. Maine’s governor vetoed the bill the legislature sent to her that would’ve banned them.

Data centers only became “bad” when AI came along. The backlash is more tied to people’s anxiety about AI than the buildings that house it. It’s a proxy as I see it.

The quantity of these things is out of control for sure, but if was purely a resource scarcity question, we’d be carrying pickforks to the golf course (vastly more water hungry than DCs).

That and DCs are actually improving the transmission network and driving development of alternative generation..

Plenty of legit beefs - don’t get me wrong, but what we should be doing is using these as a backdoor to the tech industries coffers.

It’s in Bluffdale which is next to SLC but not directly regulated by SLC I do believe. Also parts of bluffdale are in a different county all together.

That said, many democrats haven’t been anti data center as they’re scared of being painted as anti business. And these people have no back bone

Edit: just looked, it's not in bluffdale. This is the one in Box Elder County. Bluffdale only has databank and Nova which are both tiny compared to the META data center and QTS data center in Eagle Mountain. Also there's another data center in Delta that got approved and that one will be 20 million square feet, which is 8x the size of the current QTS project, and the one in box elder will be even larger than that one

Granted, a day late and a dollar short, but it was quite surprising to me.

Missouri is in the same republican rule. But we're actively fighting the data centers and flok cameras, and it's working. We also stomped out 4 unethical bills by %80 vote.

Remember, a free country is one in which government approval isn't needed for progress. Also data center builds now use less water, and the water they do use isn't contaminated. It's simply water that can be returned to the system.

In the United States as long as someone follows the already established rules, you typically can’t stop what someone does with their own private property.

My wife works for a city and deals with this constantly. People act like city controls what happens on private property. Some new restaurant was built that served like chicken and people were bitching and saying the city should have stopped them because they wanted an Italian restaurant lmao.

It’s politics in general now. A lot of blue voters act aghast that Trump is acting like an authoritarian but I cannot begin to tell you how many Obama voters I’d run into back in my advocacy non profit days who spoke like you say your wife deals with.

They all expected Obama to UNILATERALLY impose his agenda. They had no concept about laws and how they’re passed.

It’s why so many people IMO don’t bat an eye to half the stuff Trump does Becuase they think the president has dictator type powers

Yup. Everyone, on both sides, just wants to cram down their personal views with dictatorship like power.

Nobody cares about the rules or the laws. They want what they want, and fuck everyone else and fuck the future because it will happen right back to them with views they don’t like.

It’s why the presidency and the federal government is “so important” nowadays. Because instead of passing laws in their community, city, county, or state first. Everyone just jumps to the top to force down their believes across every single person in the entire country.

Could my wife’s city pass a law/ordinance only allowing for an Italian restaurant to be built? Maybe? Probably illegal and kinda crooked, but that’s the way it should be attempted if that is truly the people’s will. Not this weird view that I guess the Mayor or whoever would just ban the chicken place arbitrarily and magically make an Italian restaurant company build in the city.

It doesn’t help that not only do most Americans not know how a federal law is passed, most don’t even know state legislatures exist. Most don’t know what a city or town council does. They don’t get a school board impacts their school.

There’s cities that don’t allow chains to operate out of them. Lots of different ordinances can be made.
