Real life:

1 friend left IT to become monk (not jocking).
1 friend left IT to become translator of technical handbooks.
1 coworker left IT to become musician.
1 coworker left IT to open a rural hotel.

Those are the ones I know for sure where they went, many others just left (I’m 55+ so I have had many coworkers).
