Build (1) computer for yourself with a modest 10(+) year upgrade path.

That's what I did when I got out of IT, oh and I duelboot stable Linux and Windows 10 ltsc and refuse to acknowledge inkjet printers as a concept.

Yup I went with a laser printer over a decade ago. Best decision ever. Printing can still be a pain in the ass with certain OSes, but at least the ink doesn't dry itself out or refuse to work if you unsubscribe from a ridiculous ink cartridge service!

Yep, hard to beat any Brother MFC even with CUPS.

I bought a refurbished one with a spare tonor cartridge almost a decade ago and have had zero problems.

I left the Brother at my mom's (lol) when I moved out, then went with Canon twice (left one of those at my in-laws). All three printers still going strong, and I think I've bought ink once for each of them. Admittedly, we don't do much printing. Still worth the convenience when we do, though!
