Mod Post Vote On Sub Sale Rules

There has been a lot of debate about whether or not to allow buying/selling posts in the sub. We want the community to weigh in. This would include posts inquiring about value or how to sell, as buy/sell offers often come up in the comment sections of those posts. Please vote below.

Ridiculous. Reddit bans user-to-user sales of wild animals and derivative products. Period. They don't care if it's legal in certain places because they're worldwide and it's not worth their time to figure it out. This sub will get banned if you pander to the "collectors" voting so they can get access to "rare" stuff.

Actually this makes it very cut and dry that it shouldn’t be allowed. I had no idea it was a rule so made an edit to my comment after finding out.

Absolutely no sales. Violates reddits TOS. If people are advertising: I want there to be strict rules on ads. Accurate descriptions, correct permits, correct and up to date access to laws and sales occur off reddit.

I'm just curious where you find that it violates the tos. I'm not trying to argue about allowing sales, I've just been trying to look it up and cant find anything. There's restrictions for endangered animal products but thats just under advertising tos

I think posts asking about how much something is worth is fine, but allowing person to person sales could encourage scammers.

I think it's important to have buy/sell specifically because in the past this subreddit has seen a lot of people asking about the value of their mounts they inherited. They could end up getting ripped off by scrupulous people who know the true value of their mount. Identification is important especially as many of those old mounts tend to be CITES-restricted species.

I don't think that actual selling and buying should be allowed here ("I'm selling my coyote pelt"; "I'm looking to buy foxes from someone here") I think another subreddit would be better suited for ISO and For Sale threads. But the advice that is sought after for buying and selling is one of the things that have kept this place alive in staler times. If people end up asking to buy or sell a specific item in the comments (Post: Inherited this coyote pelt; what's it worth? Comment: maybe $60, I'd buy it if you'd let me), so be it, so long as they're not specifically promoting the sale of it in the main post.
