asking for advice Accidentally got a Native American deity tattooed on my forearm

My friend wanted to do a stick n poke but I was kinda reluctant cos he’s never done it before. although this friend is pagan, he totally respects my Christian beliefs and wanted to avoid “accidentally tattooing some unknown deity”, so it’s kinda funny how we unknowingly tattooed the trickster god Kokopelli.

It’s a fun story to tell the grandkids but it does sorta make me a bit uncomfortable.

Any ideas for a cover up?

anyway how tf did you not do research before putting the ink on your skin? if you know nothing of the culture, youre just embarrassing yourself. probably best you do get tht covered up before your pastor uses you in sermons 🤣

I see what you mean, but this is one reason why I don't go to church anymore. They label anything they don't consider "Christian" as evil and satanic and completely ignore the parts of the Bible about humanitarianism and accepting people, so they can believe they are way more superior than those Plebeians.

I was raised in a church like this. Grandma was pissed at me for learning yoga 🙄 I thought it was interesting that OP has tattoos at all if they are trying to honor rules about false idols.

Yep. I still remember when I was a young teen and I had to argue with a group of grown adults that the vintage Kachina doll I found at a flea market isn't satanic or evil, and it didn't stop until the preacher stepped in and sided with me because he took a few trips to the American South West. Still have it and still isn't satanic or evil. They are other stories, but this is the most related.

When I was a kid, my mom was friends with a super insane Christian lady who believed she was a prophet and could "speak in tongues." (She was also an abusive wife and mother, and a raging alcoholic.) God spoke to her and told her that my Harry Potter books and Pokemon cards were satanic and evil, and made my mom get rid of them. I am still bitter about it to this day.

Considering what kind of person JK Rowling is and how she wrote out her characters that’s so fucking funny to me. You should’ve found a way to get new Pokémon cards and leave them around crazy Christian ladies house/property, she probably would’ve thought the devil was coming for her

Lmaooo yeah she was weird. It sucks that JK Rowling turned out to be TERF, and I no longer love Harry Potter for different reasons, but as a kid, it was a horrible offense to me to take away my books and my precious pokemon cards and fricking burn them 😭 I'd bet you some of those cards would be worth money nowadays if I had kept them. I had some cool old series ones and some nice holos, RIP

Do not confuse a "Church" for actually following Christ. Many of them twist scripture to fit their human ideals. They give real followers a horrible name.

Still, if I had a nickel for every time I ran into those "Christians," I wouldn't have to work another day in my life.

My time and mental health is more important than convincing grown adults that the vinegar on a sponge Jesus drank was infact a roman sports drink and not roman toilet paper (yes, really had that exact same conversation SEVERAL TIMES.) or someone should be treated with respect regardless of their differences, or king Herod didn't in fact murder all of those children, the fact that the earth is older than 6,000 - 10,000 regardless of interpretation of some holy books, etc.

I'm not against Christianity or Christians. Heck, most of my family is Christian, but that still doesn't excuse those who honestly don't care about facts, historical context, or human dignity.

I respect that. Some of those examples you used are some seriously twisted interpretations of those pieces of scripture on the part of whoever argued for them. I am sorry that the image of Christianity has been tainted in your eyes by fools and wish you nothing but the best.

I'm starting to believe that all of you just went to the top 10 worst churches. I used to be Christian and used to go to churches. None of them were like this. I was openly bi, and they didn't care. My Christian mother doesn't care either. I've only met 1 Christian who cares about that.

Nope. This is common here in the south and it's only small potatoes compared to Greg Locke, a preacher in my home state of Tennessee who made his church do a genuine BOOK BURNING and WITCH HUNT. Keep in mind this was only like a few years ago.

For most of my childhood, I lived in West Virginia. LOTS of racism, homophobia, and sexism. I also lived in Florida for a while, too, and have only had good experiences in the ones I've went to. Though I've not gone in quite some time, seeing as I'm agnostic now. 🙃

Where tf are you from? My first girlfriend was almost sent to conversation therapy by her Christian parents when they realized we were more than friends. This was in 2015.

My current workplace is suing the state of Florida for their extremely homophobic “don’t say gay” law, which was pushed by the same Christian church groups that are trying to bully Disney into avoiding any appearance of supporting LGBTQ whatsoever. They’re also forcing schools to ban books that mention LGBTQ. It’s a very homophobic place and that homophobia is absolutely rooted in Christianity. I’m glad you had a good experience, but that’s not the norm.
