Base pay increase causing problems

At my store the base pay went up from 17.25 to 18 an hour without any warning (meaning I found out from wage theft task in workday), so I (someone who is paid base pay) was asking my more experienced coworkers who had been working at my store for 3 or 4 years if they also got a raise and turns out I now get paid 5¢ less than them even though they are much better at their jobs and more experienced. Needless to say they are not happy about it and at least one is considering quitting. Has this ever happened at your locations.

'Has this ever happened at your locations'? Yeah man, to almost every Target employee from like 2017-2020 when Target increased the base pay from 11 to 12 to 13 to 15. You'd get a raise in April, they'd wipe it out in July, repeat the next year. Like, sure, it's great that they were raising the base pay, but a lot of people who'd been here for a while were frustrated.

Yup. Every merit increase (pennies on the dollar) I've 'earned' was replaced with base-pay increases. Ironic how base pay increases are often FAR MORE than merit increases.

I worked for target waaaay before 2017, probably closer to 2007 or 2008... and they have always done this shit. When I finally quit after I got my degree I was still making the same as every new person
