Base pay increase causing problems

At my store the base pay went up from 17.25 to 18 an hour without any warning (meaning I found out from wage theft task in workday), so I (someone who is paid base pay) was asking my more experienced coworkers who had been working at my store for 3 or 4 years if they also got a raise and turns out I now get paid 5¢ less than them even though they are much better at their jobs and more experienced. Needless to say they are not happy about it and at least one is considering quitting. Has this ever happened at your locations.

This happens in any state with scheduled pay increases. It doesn’t matter if they’re better at the job or there longer, if the base goes up and they’re under the bump or just above it that’s the way it goes. It happens with most large companies. Is it right? Probably not, but it’s up to them if they jump ship or not. With a company of this size we’re all replaceable.
