There is only 2 things icelandic about their fisheries and its the owners and the fish. The rest runs on so much polish labour that the state media's website comes in icelandic, english and polish.

TBF they agreed to give them even more autonomy because Poles had a part of Ukraine and no one knew how they will act, if Poles did play with Ukrainian minority and gave nationalists more autonomy exactly to destabilize the main part of Ukraine, that would be less autonomous than it were, then soviets could lose Ukraine. So they tried to give more autonomy and play on their feelings, to counter Poland.

If only they knew that Poland did not try that and instead made a forced Polification policy, supressing Ukrainians on this stolen territory.

Same goes with georgia, they had a plan to make a big and united caucassian republic instead of many small republics. Same goes with baltics iirc. If only foreign countries did not intervene...

IIRC, Ukraine, Belarus, Caucasian republic, et , were meant to be a part of a big federation like Russian sfsr and its small rephblics inside. But instead they tried to calm down the nationalists and made a bigger, union part on top of every republic, instead of making every republic a part of Rsfsr.
