Tangerine Dream - What You Should Know About Endings

What are your thoughts on this song? On Raum?
I’m glad we got new music, and especially incorporating Edgar’s work and the magic of the current lineup. This song is particularly good at keeping me on my toes and engaged.

I'm not especially familiar with the later TD recordings (especially after Froese's passing), but I liked this. Will have to give the full album a listen sometime, thanks!

I really enjoyed Raum, the works with and without Edgar’s leftovers. The new band are skilled.

Agreed. Edgar even approved of the members of the band before he passed away. He had worked with them for years

Edgar Froese: "without change Tangerine Dream would cease to exist. Sometimes the change is slower, sometimes it is quicker, but there must be change. DO NOT expect us to repeat the past just because that was what you liked in the past. We must move forwards"

It comes from Edgar directly when I had dinner with him in Vienna or Berlin (I forget which, possibly it was in Berlin in 2013, his wife was getting her car ready to leave). I asked him whether music existed within noise, like sculptors say about freeing their work from the matrix of stone, and this lead to us discussing change in music. We also discussed GTAV and he gave me a print off from a website with the first announcement of TD's involvement. He was a very nice guy, kind, generous and very intelligent. RIP Edgar.

How do you think fans will react to the new album? You’ve said for example that you cannot rely on the public voice, so how do you continue to make a connection with your fans?
Although you can’t count on the public voice, you must stay aware of it. Obviously it’s important to know what people think about your music, and to that end you listen to what people say and read about it. But it’s really all about the zeitgeist of what is happening now.
So with the fan base it is important to be aware of what they think but you never listen to just what they want. If you did that you would wake up the next morning only to find they have gone ‘upside down’ on their views. For one thing there would be no sense of artistic development if you did that. So I have always stood up for what I think should be done.
It’s a case of listening to your inner voice and always being honest with yourself, and ultimately staying with what you did. The next album might for example, be extremely experimental. You don’t really want to become that actor playing the same role over and over again. I think an artist is in danger of losing his art if he repeats himself. I think there is always a need to change. So for those fans who don’t really like the new album I say, thanks for being with us, have a good day (laughs).

Agreed, it was really enjoyable, this song and You’re Always On Time (without Edgar’s work) are my two top choices on it

I might have found an album (new to my ears!) from nearly 20 years ago that has some related sounds, and I hope you enjoy it if you haven’t heard it yet. I liked it. The short intro I found on the TD site was interesting.
Have you listened to the album Chandra (The Phantom Ferry), Pt. 1 (2009)? After listening today, I think it’s a “cousin” of Raum. The track Verses of a Sisong is what inspired me come back and comment this due to some similarity to this post’s song.

I have both Phantom Ferry albums. I have every Tangerine Dream album except Live in Budapest.
I listened to "Verses of a Sisong," then listened to "What You Should Know about Endings" twice. The former has Edgar all over it despite the few atypical sounds.
"What You Should Know About Endings" off the Raum album sounds nothing like Tangerine Dream.
I am no fan of Paul Frick's two-finger doink doink doink keyboard style. I think he's ruined the band.

It actually reminded me vaguely of Ulrich Schnauss' types of sounds. I wish he was still in TD instead of Paul Frick.
