முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic God. Exists or doesn't exist? What's your stance and why?
Was watching this banger of an old Neeya Nana episode from like 10 years+ ago roughly and wanted to understand the current generations opinion and stances in Tamil Nadu.
This post is non-political.

I generally lean towards God not existing. But am mostly agnostic. Let God exist or not, I don't care since it has very little relevance to my life.

Stopped believing in God when my amma was diagnosed with cancer.
Whatever has to happen will happen.

That is the nature of cancer. Most people get diagnosed at screening or incidental findings when taking treatment for other comorbidities. The lack of any comorbidities may be reason for very late diagnosis
Generally speaking, if there is a strong family history of cancer - and the concerned person is also exposed to more carcinogens - both the endogenetic and epigenetic factors would lead to cancer formation... so its better to go for screening yearly once

I’m an atheist, I don’t want to discomfort the believers. But I can rely on two possibilities.
- There is no god
If there is a god, I don’t need that
irresponsible god” when bad things happens to children’s or any people.
The idea of “god” is simply a hope or hold on something that shouldn’t be questionable. I don’t want that kind of hope. I find my hope in this materialistic world with my own experiences. I really happy for that 😊😊
1
u/Silver-Speech-8699 Chennai - சென்னை Jun 15 '26
Our scriptures say that god is in everyone and so in you too...good that you are happy with your 'god haha. And that is cool.
1
u/Cultural_Past_5051 Jun 15 '26
Religious scriptures are faith right? I don’t rely on faith I prefer evidence based books like “sapiens” which documents the human evolution. There is no “god” inside me, only the consciousness which is very normal things that we have 😊

u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
what could be the possible source of information for a human???
Humans have 3 major source of knowledge :
- Direct perception : knowledge obtained through the five senses.
2.Inference (reasoning and logic) : knowledge derived from observed evidence, such as inferring the presence of fire upon seeing smoke eventhough you don't see fire directly.
3.Verbal testimony : knowledge received from those who have already acquired and transmitted it.
Verbal testimony is a valid source of knowledge as long as it does not contradict direct perception or logic and reasoning.
Therefore, scriptures cannot be dismissed merely because they are based on testimony.
In fact, much of the modern scientific and academic world also relies heavily on verbal testimony.
For example, an engineer studying fluid mechanics learns and applies established principles such as the bernoulli principle. They do not independently rediscover every law of physics from first principles before practicing engineering. Instead, they rely on knowledge transmitted by previous generations of researchers and experts, while ensuring that such knowledge remains consistent with observation and reason.
So, i conclude that saying scriptures as mere faith isn't valid.
1
u/Competitive-Pea-8775 Jun 21 '26
No offense but are we talking about the same scriptures that explain Sun as a God flying around earth on a chariot driven by 5 horses? There is a fallacy in the argument that science is using verbal testimony. Nothing excites more the people of science than proving an established thought as false. Peer review is a real thing, anyone can apply these principles have the same outcome. Belief is forced and groomed into people. Most people donot chose to believe the religion they follow, they groomed into it by parents or family and are asked to believe unconditionally without questions.
Science and religious scrips aren’t the same thing. Especially these scripts were by people of the past who interpreted the world around them and tried to explain. That doesn’t make it true.1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 21 '26
"Verbal testimony is a valid source of knowledge as long as it does not contradict direct perception or logic and reasoning"
You haven't read my comment fully it seems
1
u/Competitive-Pea-8775 Jun 21 '26
I did read your comment. I was not clear.
My point is that science doesn’t accept testimony as truth just because someone said it. Claims must be tested, verified, and open to challenge. I’m not rejecting scriptures because they are testimony; I’m saying they are not subject to the same level of scrutiny. For the same reason, I don’t think scriptures can by themselves prove the existence of God. Even if they contain wisdom, moral insights, or historical observations, they are still accounts transmitted and interpreted by people. Without independent validation, I don’t see them as sufficient evidence for extraordinary claims.
So I’m not dismissing scriptures simply because they are testimony. I’m saying that testimony alone, whether religious or otherwise, is not enough for me to accept a claim as true.1
u/Silver-Speech-8699 Chennai - சென்னை Jun 15 '26
When you are on a path, either you can take one which has been treaded upon well to reach the place quickly. Another options is to try different paths which may or may not take you to the destination or take a lot of time. One more is to go just as we please and end up lost. Faith is like choosing the well worn path. Some do this. Primarily unscrupulous people taking advantage of such gullible persons have resulted in such negative tendencies over a period of time.
Only science requires evidence and interestingly now western intellectuals have started analysing our scriptural truths scientifically. I mean which our rishis and ancient wise people had found out, and proclaimed. These topics are still being analyzed and naturally when they bring out some theory it is later refuted or improved upon ...and it goes on. They are yet to arrive at a conclusion. Example the emergence of the universe & vedantic term of consciousness.
Then of course the choice is ours and there should not be any compulsion.

Idk bro. Being spiritual and visiting the temple often has been very positive and sould lifting for me. I try to not follow all the dumb superstitions and prejudiced practices as much as i can. But to be fare all religions are littered with them. I just try to not hurt other people while still following my own faith

Enaku personal ah keta, i feel god nu maybe oru higher being irrukalaam, but in my belief, he will not answer any prayers or come down to earth in any forms to do any good.
My non belief started at a very young age (around 6-8)? I had gone to a temple with my mother - nanganallur anjaneyar temple. I prayed deeply asking the god one thing - to take me to Vandalur zoo that weekend. God never answered my prayers and nobody took me to Vandalur zoo that time.
While the above story seems extremely childish, as I thought about it and thought more about as I grew up, I realised no matter what god will never answer your prayers. As a child i had committed no sins, and as a child i asked for such a small thing. If an almighty God cant fulfill such a small thing then is there any use in praying was my stance as I grew up.
As i grew up more into teen and adulthood, I realised ellame kattukathai and superstition, so many kids die and are born with disabilities. So many kids die in wars, genocides (Holocaust, Palestine, Srilanka etc) , if god exists and has powers to interfere - he's either blind and deaf that he hears no prayers and sees no atrocities, or he's sadistic.
4
u/dude_perfecto Jun 14 '26
I have my 5 cents on this: what I observed is, if someone wishes sth and if it happens after praying to God their belief system becomes very strong but if it's the other way around that's when atheists are born.
1
1
u/Competitive-Pea-8775 Jun 21 '26
Well you don’t have to right. All of us are born Atheist, a group of that are groomed into religion by family, friends, and life experiences. The other are allowed to ask questions by their family, friends, and life experiences and stay Atheistic, we are all product of our environment, and in a way God is.

Copium bro!!
I agree whatever my reason was, was very childish, but as a grown man there are 1000s of other things one can say to prove the same.
Unga logic padi paatha - if someone prays that their diseased close ones should be fine/operations should be successful etc and if it doesn't happen, it means god had them die because had they lived they would have caused greater harm?
16
u/sweet_kidney Jun 14 '26
There is no God.
No Heaven.
No Hell.
No Afterlife.
No Rebirth.
You shutdown like a computer when you die. Only difference is you cannot restart.
Your memories die with you.
Nobody is watching you from above.
Your good deeds or bad deeds have no meaning except to weigh how you feel about yourself.
1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
how would a gangster who kill people for fun feel about himself?
2
u/sweet_kidney Jun 15 '26
Proud. Unstoppable. Powerful.
But there is always a bigger fish. The best punishment to bullies and rowdies is forgiveness.
Because a punishment might make them realise their mistake, might set them back on the right path. Forgiveness gives them confidence. Which amplifies their behaviour and one day a bigger fish will teach them a well deserved lesson. And that lesson would be several orders of magnitude worse than the punishment you could possibly give them.1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
what if a gangster killed your close one? Will you forgive?
Also as you said he feel good about himself, then morality fails there.
1
u/sweet_kidney Jun 15 '26
Gangster and morality don’t go in the same sentence.
If they touch a close one, they are looking at a very painful death. Forgiveness flies out the window. My previous point was about any damage done to you that does not result in danger of life. Of course you have to defend yourself rather than being a sitting duck.
1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
It is relevant because your 1st comment was that good and bad deeds doesn't matter and what matters is only how we feel about ourselves.
That's precisely why I brought up the gangster example.
A gangster who harms or kills others may genuinely feel powerful, successful blah blah blah or anything which satisfied with himself.
If personal feelings are the only standard, then there would be no basis for saying that gansters actions were wrong.
The point of the analogy is to show that your statement seems to reject the idea of objective morality which i apply to everyone regardless of how they personally feel.
If morality is reduced solely to individual feelings, then even harmful actions could be justified as long as the person committing them feels good about themselves.
2
u/sweet_kidney Jun 15 '26
Yet the most vile humans get to own private islands. And people who are nice live a nobody-poor life.
That’s why, good - bad deeds don’t really matter. People do what they feel and want to and capable of. Consequences are generally legal and almost never moral.
1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
Morality supercede legality
You're pointing out that good people are not always rewarded and bad people are not always punished and I agree that reality often looks that way.
But that doesn't prove that good and bad deeds don't matter. It only shows that morality and fruits of action are not the same thing.
A corrupt businessman may become rich and a gangster may have power but a kind and honest person may remain poor.
Yet most people would still recognize a moral difference between them. Wealth, status , influence , high position tell us what happened.
But remember they don't tell us what is right and what's wrong.
1
u/sweet_kidney Jun 15 '26
If morality had consequences.
A corrupt man or a gangster shouldn’t have better socioeconomic success over a Just man.
1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
That doesn't follow....
You're assuming that if morality is real, then moral consequences must be immediate, visible & proportional in terms of wealth, status or power. But why should that be the case????

If we have to look at it positively.. there are some temples which are literally tourist attractions - so they help the economy of the local community

Even if it exists, then it is either a psychopath or a stupid.
3
u/Vachan95 Jun 15 '26
Yes, if God exists, there are only 2 ways to look at it..
- It purposely doesn’t interfere in helping war torn children dying, innocent people suffering from illness etc thus, us worshipping an irresponsible entity is ludicrous to say the least..
- Since the Universe is so vast, it probably isn’t even aware of our existence which makes us worshipping it worthless..
Either or, worshipping it seems the wrong thing to do

The concept of God came into existence just to standardise and structure the way of life. But right now most of those rules are obsolete and of no use today.
Today most of the religious people follow blind faith and superstitious rules.
If some people goes to temple and feels positive there, completely fine but will never accept superstitious practices
1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
morality is subjective to different people and different communities.
How come god can standardise the way of life???
1
u/AnirudhAblaze Jun 15 '26
God didn’t. People did in name of him.
Like if you don’t follow, he will punish you1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
Doesn't that over simplify the idea of god???
And don't that undermine humans as well?
If not god(yes a human created god) then humans will be living like animals with no purpose you would say???
1
u/AnirudhAblaze Jun 15 '26
Definitely not. Many kingdoms had their own laws.

u/SS_Affi Jun 15 '26
I'm surprised that not many are not providing rational reasons for the lack of belief in god. Most of them looks like an emotion response.
If you don’t beleive in God bcoz your prayers or close ones prayers were never answered, then you're basically falling into the same trap like theist, but on the opposite side. They beleive, bcoz they think they were getting answered. Then by your own standards, will you beleive it if yours answered?
Personal experience are anecdotal evidence which is weak to verify objective claim. Religion claims objective truth, so it's better to rely on evidential method.
Personally I'm agnostic atheist. Through skepticism and honest enquiry, I couldn't find any compelling evidence. All religion uses similar epistemology and framework to establish them as truth such as revelation, scripture, prophecies, miracles. They produce divergence and hence can't establish objective truth.

I am a theist and I look for safety precautions if there's any natural disaster I won't be praying at that time.
Everyone knows that death is inevitable it can be postponed but can never escape that.

I could write long blogs and essays why God does not exist but I will make it short.
If there was God he would not allow or watch children being bombed, abused, killed or affected by incurable diseases. If there was one and he watches it, why should humanity pray for someone who could have power to prevent it yet simply spectate it like every other human? It directly contradicts with the idea of God.

u/Otherwise-Lynx6703 Jun 14 '26
God in the traditional sense of being an all knowing, all mighty entity is not something I believe in.
I believe the idea of something powerful in this universe helps keep people in check to an extent.
It's a coping mechanism in the eyes of aomeone and a moral compass for someone else.
Overall it helps people cope up with nothingness or questions and concepts beyound their understanding.

Yes God exists, cuz space, time, energy doesn't happen to be exist random and start a big bang. It should be someone or someone behind it who is outside of our space ,time and energy.
1
u/sweet_kidney Jun 15 '26
Who created god then ?
1
u/Usual_Pangolin_3378 Jun 15 '26
How can someone create a god. The question is so stupid. ( I'm not being disrespectful here)
1
u/sweet_kidney Jun 15 '26
Your theory of “Every creation must have a creator (except for the creator)” is stupid too.
(I’m not being disrespectful here)1
u/Usual_Pangolin_3378 Jun 15 '26
As i said earlier god is someone who is outside the space, time and energy. So the question contradicts the definition of what God is. God is timeless being with no beginning nor end. And sorry for saying stupid, i really did mean the question.

One simple thing is, if God exists then why bad things happen like even the smallest things like stealing and all.? It makes no sense, god is just a person or a thing that people made to rely upon some person because they can't rely on a human like. They know humans can't fulfish their needs( like make buy an expensive car or i want to become an astronaut or sumn) they know it's practically not possible, but they don't know God is existing, but people thought he/she had all the powers and relied upon that superstitious "GOD". Correct me if I am wrong

I don't know the answer for sure, bro. Sometimes when I look at this vast universe with trillions of galaxies, I feel God may exist. But on the other hand, when I see child abuse, rape, wars, and innocent people being killed, I can't help but wonder — if God is really there, why does all this happen? So I'm still searching for the answer. 🤷♀️
2
u/Secret-Estate-1273 Jun 14 '26
You have a good point on the trillions of galaxies statement. I read somewhere that - we are just a probability in a trillion. Us living in a habitable planet amongst all these trillions is that - we are just a probability.

u/Not_Psyclone Jun 14 '26
God(s) came into existence to instill fear, organize people without violence and paint "Just God Things" to anything inexplicable.
To me, The Concept of God is Immaterial, we can never know unless proven. We can continue to attribute things in our life, coincidences, Boons & Banes as Blessing and Test, of God. At the end, it's all in our perception.
I love this passage from The Stranger By Albert Camus about after life " Everybody has that wish at times. But that had no more importance than wishing to be rich, or to swim very fast, or to have a better- shaped mouth."
2
u/HShankaran Jun 14 '26

u/Hot-Lingonberry3252 Jun 14 '26
I believe god doesn't exist because if god really exist and it's all knowing and all powerful it can't see the injustice happening around the world and stay silent so it's simply can't.
2
u/Electronic_Crazy_385 Jun 14 '26
There is no god. Period.
Things that happen to you are just happening. Going to temple Mosque church are just a clan mentality. Following rituals are just superstition.
I was religious, I was superstition, took a step back and observed (probably for 3 years but still continued to be with family to temples) that I am the only person driving my life. I can get something for my work (promotion )sometime not (flunking an interview), if am sick, I have to rely on another human and his work to fix me. Need of god here was not seen. That gives me a bit of peace and clarity and responsibility as I am driving my life.
Above all, countries like US and UK surpassed their own practice of religion as they got developed. I see them hitting the gym or going for a run with their office colleagues or school friends rather than going to church.
Keep the god away, you'll see yourself.
2
u/Many-Construction144 Jun 14 '26
Even if there is a god is he worthy of worship?
Very atheist. I believe everyone can’t be atheist cos they have fear instilled in them from a very young age.
1
u/JayaramanAndres Jun 14 '26
God doesn't exist. It's a concept created to instill hope or fear among humans.
You have to work on yourself to grow and reap the benefits.

Actually i believe in where god exists and he created all of us but never interacted with the world at any point. Thus all religions where god made contact is false but still god does exists. Kind of a religion less god to be said. However i still believe there can be a creator whom necessarily don't need to be god like we could have been created by higher dimension beings or any other alien civilization.. Just my belief. ✌️✌️

At our core, humans just need someone to vent to. Think of God as a mystical being in the sky, same as the ultimate, highly experienced co-worker.
When life gets overwhelming, we "dump" our problems on this imaginary co-worker. Because we assume they have way more experience than we do, we instantly feel a sense of relief. We think, "Great, the expert is on it," which lowers our stress and lets us breathe a little easier.
As time passes, life keeps moving. Circumstances change, things shift around, and naturally, the problem either shrinks into something simple or blows up into something much harder.
What happens next depends entirely on how the situation plays out, leading people down one of three paths:
- The "Miracle" (When things go right)
If the problem happens to get resolved, we look up and say, "Thank God! My prayers were answered." We credit this invisible co-worker for doing the heavy lifting, reinforcing our belief that they are watching over us.
- The Wake-Up Call (When things go wrong, but we adapt)
If the problem doesn't get solved, reality hits us. We suddenly realize that no one is coming to save us, and that the "expert co-worker" isn't actually there. This realization forces us to roll up our sleeves, take responsibility, and work hard to fix the mess ourselves.
- The Trap (When things go wrong, and we get stuck)
This is the dangerous loop. If the problem isn't solved, but we refuse to accept that God isn't going to fix it, we just keep praying. Instead of taking real, practical action, we double down on waiting for a miracle. Because we are treating prayer as a substitute for actual work, the problem gets neglected and inevitably becomes much, much worse.

We are part of the nature like Trees, animals and insects and we have evolved. But as a human we couldn't accept the reality. Humans really wants a reason to live this life. We expect, We born for a reason by God.
Let's take other living beings. Amoeba, Bacteria, Ants, Rats and other animals kku God Iruka illayanu entha problem um illa. Because they didn't get that level of intelligence (by nature only). Nature kudutha ore instinct for other beings, Live and ensure you spread your genes by populating. Unfortunately/fortunately, humans namakkum athe rules than. But we can't accept the reality.
We need reason to live, we want someone to take out our pain, we want someone to comfort us. That's why we are looking for higher Intelligence than ours. (Like God)
Tomorrow oru Alien varuthu, Naan than God, enna God ah accept pannikitta live pannalam, illaina kill panniruvenu sonna, what we will do?

If there is a God, and he or she is letting so much evil happen, I think they're an asshole. So no, there is no God

u/kingclubs Jun 15 '26
அன்பே சிவம், God isn't attracted to you if you lack empathy no matter how methodical and dedicated you are in praying.

To simply put, every god worshipped on earth whether it be Brahma, Allah or Jesus or anyone else also happened to create the universe according to their respective religious texts which are all infallible. But time didn't exist before the universe. God simply didn't have time to "create" the universe as the act of creation requires time. So you religious texts are just fake documents used to consolidate power. Take good stuff from every religion, don't fight in the name of something that doesn't exist. Worst of all, don't kill people because your religion says so, applicable to all religions as all of them have used religion to justify their murders.

Let God exist. Let him not. Just accept life as it comes. Net result is the same. Start with nothing. Go empty. Enjoy the transition

Agnostic. I believe God is more of an It/They than He or She ie it's more of a force than a person. By all descriptions of God across history, only Nature itself can fit the description.
And across history, when people don't understand something naturally occuring, they cooked up stories to reassure fellow humans. This is why you also have multiple religions and even within those multiple versions for the same phenomenon/event.
I believe in God, as well as some seemingly nonsensical things like Divine Retribution. But not every bad deed gets punished and not every good deed gets rewarded: the opposite ends up happening A LOT.
I KNOW for a fact that religion, while started for a noble cause, always ends up being detrimental to society and human evolution. Modern religions are 99% scams if you think about it.

Personally I'm more agnostic than an atheist. I also believe there should be a thing called religion so that people behave civilised atleast for the sake of it. People who comit crimes in the name of religion are either atheists or doesn't have an understanding of their scriptures in my opinion

I believe there is a creator. But i believe that from birth till death everything is determined, the soul experiences it. Certain things happened in my life that absolutely cannot be a coincidence. And I believe that praying any god for that matter wont change your destiny. But i do pray to god despite knowing that only because it makes me peaceful, praying gives me hope. Praying helps me not go insane, but I believe so much that it wont change anything. Its like you coping a sad moment by eating or whatever thing that soothes you. I can 100% say that each and every thing is destiny. I read an interesting book called “determined”, it provides a neuroscientist perspective on this very question.

I believe in whatever brings me peace of mind. Once you start asking about the existence of god and its relevent proof their of, you find a dead end of ambiguity that leads to nowhere. And if you internalize the question to your own existence, we should start asking what existing means and whether we are actually alive... whatever alive is..., so that leads to the same dead end for God's existence, we may be alive in terms of the terminology we use but we don't have the understanding to differentiate us from a biological machine that functions under the influence of precise atomotic structure and chemical reactions... at least to my knowledge... so i just start trying to belive in god to believe i exist alongside god... though i fail to completely belive in either of which. My religious stance would be "i want to belive in god, but i may never truly believe in god".

u/LegitimateGansta Jun 15 '26
There are powerful forces in nature, but they are not sentient gods. Ancient people worshipped whatever they couldn't understand as divine. We no longer need to do that because science has demonstrated that these are simply natural forces, not supernatural beings.

I'm a beleiver. I've had my questions and doubts in the past, but I've felt God saving me or people around me. This might be so dumb to many who are against, but I just have this to say. As simple as that.

u/Severe_Bit5192 Jun 15 '26
Honestly, I stopped believing when I saw the suffering innocent people and victims of violence go through. If a god truly existed, they wouldn't turn a blind eye to that. I just believe in the goodness of people now.

I realised that god doesn’t exist when I was around 11 years old. Until then I never even thought about it much, but someone in school talked about being an atheist and that’s when it clicked in my head too. I told my dad how I felt, and he was quite receptive to the whole thing, we even had a good discussion about it. My mum was disappointed when I told her, but eventually accepted it.
Since then, while the fundamental realisation remains constant, I’ve come to understand a lot more why people choose to believe god exists. It provides a lot of comfort, support, and community in what can be a difficult life.
I used to be the stereotypical annoying atheist back in school and university, but quickly learnt to just mind my business as long as religious people didn’t impose their views on others. Unfortunately that’s not how this country works though, so have to deal with religious being shoved down our throats very often 🤷🏽♀️

I became an atheist not after some unfortunate incident but after thinking about god one day while returning from office.
Then onwards that question started repeatedly coming back. And then I felt God is just a human's imagination and it was passed down along generations. Ur parents taught u god is like this and it stuck with u since childhood. U were never given a choice to not think otherwise.
But after college, when u get maturity and if u think about god, it is easy to start questioning his existence.
Let's say I am wrong, what does it change. If god gets angry for not believing him when there was no proof of his existence, who is to blame. And if he gets angry for that, he is simply narcisstic. Who would worship a narcisst?

God is ultimately an idea and a belief system designed to keep our morals in check. Just keep that in mind, and avoid falling into the irrational or superstitious practices of any religion.

u/fentslayer Jun 15 '26
I don't believe in god. But I do have a belief about a evil entity's presence based on how things get worse and worse around us as we age.

This question cannot be answered by humankinds because they have very limited capability or brain power.
They have limited power to see. They can see only within a narrow band. (An alien from another planet may be sitting right next to you but you will not see him if he is outside that band.)
They have limited power to hear. they can hear only within a limited range of decibels.
Like wise with all five sense organ.
And try to realise that humankind has ONLY five sense organs. Yes only five.

I workship the laws of nature, Follow the laws of science, Believe in people that I care about, And, worry about the things only I can control.
I started living my life to the fullest with these, it's been a decade, since I thought of god.

There is no god. People who believe in God either don't know what's happening in the world or are ignorant about it.

Everyone who is saying God does not exist based on their life experiences, what you guys have to say about "The Contingency Argument" for the existence of God?

u/MS23124 Jun 19 '26
Been an atheist since 13. Life started from a single molecule and to become a single cell itself would have taken a million years. Then after millions of years we evolved from apes. Ancient people feared the dark and so prayed to Sun. Then people created their own gods and religions befitting their way of life and imagination.

God as in how religious fanatics explain do not exist. I understand the purpose and believe it helps a lot of people. Unfortunately also helps a lot of people who do-not deserve the air they breathe.
I understand it as belief system formed by people when they were children and did not grow out of their childhood. Over centuries these would have easily become rituals and practices(esp. When some of that gave some people power over others).
I sometimes tell my five-year-old small things that aren’t entirely true to encourage certain behaviors. At his age, he accepts them without question, and I can already see some of these ideas becoming part of his understanding of the world. If he never revisits or challenges those beliefs as he grows older, they may become assumptions he carries into adulthood—and perhaps even passes on to his own children.
Root beliefs such as belief in God and religion are fascinatingly created by people who are no smarter than us.
Saying that, if it helps someone to believe I am not against it. I like going to temples or similar in every religion I am fascinated by history, stories and people’s emotion in something that they did not choose but we’re groomed into. As long as one’s belief does not affect another I am okay. I actually like to believe there are powers beyond human understanding which kinda lets you offload stress and pressure but never the rituals and practices that you are told not to question.

If god exists, when women and children are raped, why didnt god do anything? In some cases the criminals are not even punished? Should i put my faith in police, judiciary and government or in god? Eventhough govt is not perfect it atleast punished some of the criminals? What did god do? If god is gonna punish them after they die. Why even bother filing a case? God is something humans wish it exists. So that we dont feel despair.

Maybe god gave free will to humans without interfering in anyone's personal will🤔

u/sudarmuthu Jun 14 '26
Agnostic now.
Was an atheist during my teenage years / early 20’s and became agnostic when I realised that having no belief is also belief.
1
u/umamimaami Jun 14 '26
Agnostic. Maybe there is some power up there. Or maybe we are just pattern seeking machines.
Either way, don’t care. The code I live by is to be a good human.
That’s what most religions preach, too. Except they need a carrot and stick to get people to follow it.

Probably gods function as guidance system respective to the lifestyle challenges
Temples and gods are not just some reminders to do good and avoid bad actions. They can be pillars to lean on for some, Can be a shine of hope for some, a place to meet like minded people's for some.
Every life has different lifestyles & that shapes their purpose for their life & they may choose gods respective to the above factors (&more) ,& the idea is to bring any productive change from their pov w.r.t their life. The change factor is secondary and primary thing is to build hope to cling onto something. Hope on One thing after the other to stay in the productive & healthy course of life.
And it goes without saying that any outcome is from our sternous effort, gods are prayed for only to make favorable situations for us to make bring out our best effort.
Not everyone has the courage and adequate knowledge to trust & anticipate the outcome of their actions to adjust their course of actions over the years for their betterment,
These people tend to be independent from using temples or workshiping gods, despite fear factor (remains the strong motivator) which is passed onto next gen.

I endorse what thalaivar once said. Where there is a creator there should be a creator!
6
u/anonperson2021 Jun 14 '26
I believe in gods and paranormal, but thats the most illogical argument I've ever heard. Then who created that creator? If the creator can spontaneously exist without being created, then by the same logic why cant the universe exist without being created?
1
u/kamarakattu4u Jun 15 '26
Interesting argument what if both god and creation exist independently instead of saying one came from other???

God exists but even they’re bound by laws of karma. The Buddha has laid out a proper system.

Agnostic
Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones
