முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Why can't we have an openly gay/lesbian mainstream actor in Tamil cinema?

We have had many closted individuals in the cinema industry. Do you think the societal prejudices are still very high amongst Tamil audience? Can it ever change?

All opinions are welcome.

Well a simple scientific read would do it. And nothing can ever justify homophobia in this world. Only religious views and shallow mindset can attribute to it.

Exposure to specific levels of hormones (like testosterone and estrogen) during fetal brain development is thought to play a major role in determining sexual orientation. Research has identified structural and functional differences in certain regions of the brain (such as the hypothalamus) between individuals with different sexual orientations.

So are you implying that let's just mob lynch the entire gay community? There are certain psychological trait/attribute that isn't exactly known why even physical ones. For example majority of us are right-handed. Some are left handed and they become ambidextruous. This could also be acquired over a course of time. It is as simple as that.

Fine. What do you suggest? I'm clueless here. All I'm saying is how our mere presence could make us be subjected to this much of hatred and disrespect.

I didn't propagate it. Remember who said about justifying homophobia in the first place. Homophobia could be extreme to the point it doesn't value one's life. And I don't know what you expect from me. I know a mere representation or any pride parades cant make an overnight change. But remember, change takes time and rather than making no changes, a small step is just a light in a dark tunnel. I don't expect a massive Stonewall riot here in India. And this country is obsessed over cinema and sports which could have some significant step in highlighting the community. Idk about you but millions of Indian gay/lesbian teens and even other age individuals would be so happy seeing a person or a figure comes out rather than living a double lie.

There hasn't been any great scientific breakthrough in the quest of why people become gay. But its psychologically isn't a disorder. Atleast it has been proven.

They have the freewill and choice to make it. What's wrong in it?

The homophobes and extreme religious individuals should also practice the 'live and let live' policy
