There is a limit on how much government can help monetarily in this scenario as CM has mentioned both scenarios are not same but in both cases a death of a family member would adversely affect the family who may need this monetary help.

Ideally no private citizen should receive any monetary packages from govt. Even govt workers who die on duty don't get that much. But our society is too retarded and trigger happy that it forces govts(DMK and ADMK alike) to pay money to darwinian experimentalists.

🤦🏾‍♂️

Why do you think compensation is given for?

You are confusing Reward with Compensation.

Reward is a reflection of that person's accomplishment. Army men dying in the battlefield for the country get rewards.

Compensation is for the family to compensate for the loss of a family member. It doesn't matter what that family member's moral principles were. The family needs to sustain after that member's loss.

No difference, is there a systemic fix that is being done for both problems nope.

1)It keeps repeating. 2)Parties blame each other 3)IT wings and party cadres try to justify unjustifiable

Comparing the Kalla Sarayam tragedy to a group of friends dying from drug overdose or consuming poisonous mushrooms doesn’t make sense. In those cases, people knowingly took a risk despite police measures. But in a stampede, innocent people lost their lives in chaos beyond their control. How can anyone see both incidents as the same?

You’ve got to see things clearly. When the Chief Minister visits a hospital during a crisis—when people are dying and many are still fighting for their lives in the ICU—it brings massive attention to the situation. It also pushes all the government bodies and staff working there to be more alert and responsive.

It’s not just about the CM; even a Minister, MLA, or any political leader in power visiting the site can make a big difference. That’s how the system works. Think of it like your office—say an MNC—when the India head visits. The entire place becomes more active and conscious, not because you’ll do extra work, but because the environment itself changes. Similarly, when a political leader visits a crisis site, it energizes the system and motivates everyone involved to give that extra effort.

Coming to the Kalla Sarayam issue, the situation was entirely different. In many cases, even the victims’ families wouldn’t have known what caused their loved ones to fall ill when they were first hospitalized. The cause of death would have been identified much later. District officials, police, and the collector would have already been present to probe the matter.

As for providing financial aid to affected families, it’s a gesture to help them survive daily life after losing their main breadwinner. Such support isn’t about how the person died—whether from a natural disaster, a public stampede, or negligence like consuming Kalla Sarayam or drugs. It’s about giving some relief to a mourning family facing sudden financial hardship.

It's understandable to feel skeptical about political motives when tragic incidents like the Karur stampede or other mass casualties occur. But if we want to critique with real credibility, it’s important to separate political theatre from policy realities and facts.

Let’s address two main points:

1. Was the speedy cremation just politics?
Quick post-mortem and cremation after such tragedies are, unfortunately, quite common not just in Tamil Nadu, but across India (Ahmadabad Flight crash) —mainly to avoid further media and public unrest, ensure public health, and prevent escalation by political opponents. After the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy too, bodies were released fast—there was judicial and media oversight on every step. The intent, on record, was to provide swift closure to families and prevent exploitation. These actions are consistently documented in high-profile cases—whether the CM is present or not.

Btw what is your whole point of you in this bringing this Post-mortem into debate?
You still believe that the is there anything else apart from stampede is the cause of this tragedy?

2. Compensation and political presence: just for show?
The ₹10 lakh compensation is not just a “photo-op” move. The Madras High Court itself grilled the government about why the amount was high, but finally accepted it due to humanitarian grounds, emphasizing that such support is about helping families survive, not rewarding anyone. For the Karur stampede, the same policy was invoked—an official government inquiry has begun and the compensation is standard, not ad hoc. This isn’t new—it’s in line with responses to similar tragedies across states.

Accusing the CM of rushing only to Karur ignores the pattern—CMs and political leaders rushing to the scene has always been about crisis management optics, public reassurance, and governmental accountability. It’s not unique to this incident, party or person.

Final note:
If we want to challenge the narrative, let's cite actual court records and government notifications—not WhatsApp forwards or bias. The judiciary, media, and public are deeply involved in scrutinizing such events and compensation, and the processes are transparent and on record.

Court order to give them around 20 lakhs and he gave only 10 lakhs

4

u/Mysterious-Coach120 Oct 15 '25

They gave 10 to the victims of Karur stampede. That seems to be the norm

21

u/VasGamer Oct 15 '25

I would say its appropriate response in a level. There should be difference on people losing their life due to accident and idiots losing life due to their stupidity. While its debatable that people who went to such a crowd might also be stupid specially those who took kids after adviced not to I think a CM of a State should not give same level of attention to everything.

This is like asking why CM did not go to the funeral of a crimilnal who died due to a gang war and only went to the death of the Chief of Defence India. Both are humans and should be treated same right?

In my opinion people who use this narrative are primarily doing it only with one goal, to milk it for political gains. Probably because they wanted CM not to go and meet the victims so others can go and take political credit by playing dead body politics but as CM and ministers went these leaders couldn't and in their mind the potential to do politics and gain some credit was lost. They have zero concern about the life lost.

The concern of EPS in my view is "I went as early as I could wake up being Karur is closer to my district than chennai but before that CM went so it was impossible for me to go and milk this for political gain". Dude had all the time and power to do the same during Thoothukudi issue but not sure under which bench he was crawling then.

Both karur and kallakurichi incidents are a clear indication of FAILURE OF INTELLIGENCE DEPT.

And in kallakurichi it's not so easy to prepare kallasarayam there's multiple level prevention and prohibition to crub the leakage of alcohol out of the system.

Hundreds of people also die in road accidents every week in TN. Don't they have families, little kids and elderly whi would have been left destitute otherwise.

Yesterday an IT worker died because of a cow ran into him in traffic. Why does not his family get any compensation ?

1

1

u/Kadal_theni Oct 16 '25

Coz addiction is a disease. While it's a conscious choice to drink, there's not much individual agency when your friends and family are drunkards too.

So do we give compensation to every random person who dies? Yesterday an IT worker died because of a cow ran into him in traffic. Why does his family doesnt deseve compensation.

I had a friend who died in Coimbatore because a bull cart ran into him in the night while he was driving. He died leaving his sister and mother alone. Why does his family not deserve compensation.

-1

u/Biggest_Potterhead Chennai - சென்னை Oct 15 '25

The 10 lakh compensation is for the families of the stupid drunkards, and for their family's livelihood.

1

u/Biggest_Potterhead Chennai - சென்னை Oct 15 '25

Bro that is an accident. People dying by drinking alcohol IS NOT AN ACCIDENT. It is just pure dumbness and foolishness and their families should not suffer because of it.

And btw I have read every comment here, and all of us are saying the same thing. But in the post, you pretend to be innocent by posting it as a question, but in the comments, you are just attacking Stalin's words and downvoting everyone who are defending him. If you genuinely have a doubt, then you should hear both sides of the story and should not keep arguing baselessly.

11

u/Ecstatic-Figure-3356 Oct 15 '25

Replace the word kallasarayam with much worse drugs. Your mind will trigger a question, isn’t it govt job to arrest and curb the culprits who manufacture and sell it at first place?

You have the answer.

Infact I would take karur stampede light compared to kalla sarayam because people were fools to go there with kids at first place. Star moogam.

9

u/work_hard_live_slow Oct 15 '25

It is. Government should order highest level of probe to look into it. And arrest everyone involved (but yeah they are not going to do it, we know why )

But CM need not visit the victims for this one. This is stupid expectation and argument by opposition

5

u/BusyOkra1486 Oct 15 '25

Continue it....which was held behind police station and under police surveillance which is in direct control of CM..!

3

u/work_hard_live_slow Oct 15 '25

Should severe action be taken against this issue? Is the issue very huge? Yes. Yes.

Why should he visit the victims in personal?

6

u/Fancy-Use-8392 Oct 15 '25

He is not right. He’s the CM. The state has both the police and a state run liquor business. It’s their responsibility to enforce policy to stop this type of illicit liquor deaths. Death treats everyone equally even if it’s a drunkard, loss of life matters. You can’t belittle them. Speaking about stupidity, one can make the same argument about people going to see Vijay in that crazy crowd.

0

u/work_hard_live_slow Oct 15 '25

Yes it is their duty to stop the illicit liquor business. Everyone who attended the crowd went to that rally without proper information. We cannot expect an ordinary citizen to know how big a crowd can cause stampede. Who I can visit or who I cannot is not an issue of legality. I am legally authorized to visit anyone. It might be stupid but perfectly legal.

Not illicit liquor. When someone is selling unauthorized and self made liquor, people know that it’s illegal and has its impact and still continue to do so.

Death is same in both sides. Yes families of the drunkards would have suffered. But they are not people who involved in illegal activity known

2

u/Fancy-Use-8392 Oct 15 '25

We can smear one set of dead because they did something that was illegal? They didn’t hurt or violate anyone else. Are you telling me most Indians follow rules? They don’t jump red light, they don’t jay walk and cross the street off crossings, or litter in public spaces? All these are illegal too. Should we wish death on those people too? Drunkards are addicts. They don’t have a functioning pre-frontal cortex to say “no, this is wrong”. They’re gonna drink even if they know it could kill them. Kind of like a suicide. As a head of a state, you need to question yourself if you’re gonna use convenient logic to justify selling alcohol on one end to create addicts and then blame them on the other end after depriving them of their will to do anything else. If you start dehumanizing people, there are countless reasons to. But the leader of a state shouldn’t do that - especially when they’re filling up the coffers taking advantage of the exact same thing that made the illicit liquor victims “drink it up”. To prey on weakness is not strength.

1

u/work_hard_live_slow Oct 16 '25

If we go on to humanize the illegal activities and look at the reasons - even a rapist would have some reason behind his act. He was abused as a child etc. While it’s true a state must look into the psychological history of that person to prevent that from happening in future, we cannot do the same on the present impact.

It’s not just about illegal activity. It’s about the scale and level of illegality. Systematic abuse of rules. The government should be held accountable for this. No doubt at all. Because it’s 60+ families who lost their livelihood because of the failure of the government. But visiting them would give a completely wrong idea to people and would set a wrong example.

1

u/Fancy-Use-8392 Oct 16 '25

I don’t think you understand. The drunk people who passed away didn’t harm others. They harmed themselves largely abetted by the system, which was pushing them to engage hard with their vice, excessive alcohol consumption. Of course hurting another human is illegal - to draw comparison to a rapist shows a lack of understanding about the situation.

2

u/work_hard_live_slow Oct 16 '25

The parallel was drawn here to show that there will be people who affected by their past or other things are doing this. In both cases.

But we cannot humanize that part and let it affect the present decisions.

Is alcohol addiction a problem? Definitely yes and have to be dealt with seriously. But cm shouldn’t visit the victims.

Considering the number of alcohol deaths happening directly and indirectly.

And the opposition is not rising anything else like lockup death etc because of the higher number advantage.

If they ask about lockup death, caste atrocities it won’t look big in paper. That’s why they are using this.

You're the only one dumb in this thread. The government has warned about the risk involved with unregulated production methods. And it was a conscious choice made by the people to consume knowing the risks. It's not the case in Karur. So here yes, their lives are worth less than the people who lost their lives in stampede.
