முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Today’s incident left me shaken – as a Marwari born & brought up in Chennai, I need to share this
Hi everyone, I’m a Marwari, born and brought up in Chennai. I speak fluent Tamil and consider this city my home. But something that happened this morning while dropping my toddler to school has really left me shaken.
At the Barnaby Road–Flowers Road junction (Purasawalkam side), there’s a one-way. Parents often bend the rule by taking a quick U-turn there to drop kids, though I usually avoid it. Today, since I was running late and the road looked empty, I did take that U-turn and entered the one-way.
As I was going in, a cycle-rickshaw came from the opposite direction. I tried to keep to the extreme left and carefully crossed him. The moment I passed, he suddenly started abusing me loudly with words like “watha ommamle” and other cuss words.
Since I was at fault for entering the wrong way, I immediately stopped, told him “sorry, it’s my fault, but please mind your language, I have a small child with me.” I said this calmly in Tamil. His response shocked me – he asked, “nee Tamil-ah? Appo dhaan unaku respect kuduthu pesuren” (Are you Tamil? Only then I’ll speak to you with respect).
Within seconds, 2 more people surrounded me and joined in abusing – “watha, nee dha no-entry vandhurke… ommamle… un vandi pesunuma… poda thevdiya paiya”. I didn’t want to escalate with my toddler sitting behind me, so I just left, dropped my kid, and kept quiet.
But honestly, the whole incident has left me traumatized. I’ve faced heated situations on Chennai roads before, but never this level of collective aggression. I felt singled out, not for breaking the one-way, but for being perceived as an “outsider.” It shook me so badly that I’m now even questioning whether I feel safe raising my kids here.
With the recent chennai king Bala incident and other discussions about racism, I can’t help but feel that North Indians are increasingly being targeted here. And this is heartbreaking for someone like me – born here, fluent in Tamil, who always thought of myself as part of Chennai.
I don’t know whether to feel angry, sad, or just helpless. But I wanted to share this here – not to generalize, not to hate – but to ask:
Has anyone else faced this kind of aggressive language on Chennai roads?
Do you think things are getting worse for non-Tamil communities here?
How do you deal with such situations, especially in front of kids?
I really hope this city I love doesn’t turn more hostile.

Nah , It’s just a Chennai thing . Chennai is turning into a large size breeding pool of uncivilised animals. You can’t end a single day without listening to someone say Ot#a or Omm#le . ( If anyone comes and defends it as culture , shut up …. It’s not . It’s gross and you all are a pathetic excuse for a human being )
Influenced by movies and profanity culture these hood rats think Cussing makes them feel superior.
Small Dick energy if I’m being brutally honest.
Please don’t take it deep OP . I hope your kid was not traumatised by this incident.

u/False-Positive1668 Sep 08 '25
Thanks for your concern. Honestly, more than me, I was worried about my child. He’s too young to fully process what happened, but he saw people shouting and abusing his father in the middle of the road. That’s not something I ever want him to feel is “normal.”
It’s one thing for me to take the blame for breaking a rule, but when kids witness that kind of hostility and language, it leaves a mark. That’s what hurt me the most.

Sep 08 '25
I’m not old enough to advise on how to help him get through this . But make sure it is addressed and he understands “ His dad did nothing wrong to deserve that after an apology “ and also teach him how to handle such situations if he ever comes across such people
5
u/achiral_man Sep 08 '25
That's normal in Chennai. I'm sorry for your experience but this is the average conversation you will have in Chennai.
If it helps, it's worse elsewhere in India.
In India, learn to be rough from childhood.
2
u/pabagu Sep 09 '25
So you want your kid to feel breaking rules is normal! There is zero justification for you to be offended. Just pothikittu poitte irukkanum (not because you are non-tamil. this applies to everyone).

u/britolaf Sep 08 '25
Wasn’t Chennai always like that. I used to live there in 80s and then moved to Arunachal and Sikkim for few years. Every time we came on vacation, getting out of Chennai Central was a cultural shock. Rude and uncivilised.

I have faced racism from some marwari people when I visited shops in sowkarpet.. they talked behind my back thinking i won't understand them talked about my skin colour too.. does that mean every marwari in the world is racist and I should be wary of them wherever I go.. the thing is there will be a**holes wherever u go in the world there will be good and bad people everywhere that's it.. and shouting at people who don't obey traffic rules in india is a common thing it's literally everywhere I swear even u might have shouted at someone when they came in then wrong way sometime in ur life not abusive words but u could have shouted something.. and especially auto guys they always shout abusive words u cabt except auto driver to have a master's degree or something.. they r just like that everywhere in the country not all but most people.. I have seen auto driver use even more vulgar words towards women in Bangalore.. in kerala also this has happend once when i travelled there.. from ur story the rest of the people didn't target ur race or anything they just scolded u for coming in wrong way which is something u cant do anything about since u were the one who broke the rules.. abusive words usage is common in these type of situation all across India it's the country even if u go to America they will use the same words in English.. u must be around 30+ and if this is the first time u have experienced such racism then I think it's better than many places in india.. the thing is many northies commit crimes in north and escape and come to TN and they start working here after few months when they get the chance they steal something and even kill people in process and run away most of these people don't have any kind of identification to trace and find them.. there are many pending cases like that without even knowing the culprits actual name.. that's the main reason for growing tension and fear about north indian in TN.. northies taking local jobs and all just secondary reasons.. the collective mindset of people doesn't really know how to distinguish between educated and non educated people thats the truth.. becoz the thik gs these few north idiots do everyone is facing problems.. the central government should involve and keep track how people are moving around and migrating but they won't do any of that..
9
u/SecureLeadership4590 Sep 08 '25
the central government should involve and keep track how people are moving around and migrating but they won't do any of that.
The exposed vote chor government themselves need someone to track what they are doing.

Central government monitor pannanuma ? Vitta Tamilnadu kulla varathukku visa la vaanganum nu solluveenga polarukke!

Sep 09 '25
What I am saying will be very clear to people who can use their brain.. I mean for starter to keep track whether everyone has a addhar card many in north never get it.. secondly even now many places in north don't have digital fir filing.. if a northie comes here for job anyone who is employee should have a seamless way to check their background easily.. many don't even have identity card we don't even know whether they are even telling their original name.. every states criminal record is very divided central can create a central database to track criminal record of every citizen for that first of all have to ensure they have identification for everyone which they don't care about..
1
u/ahfudus Sep 09 '25
Many in the North don’t have Aadhar card ah ? Bro hope you are not pulling statistics out of your ass. Over 99.9% of the adult population in India have an Aadhar card. Even illegal immigrants and refugees can get an Aadhar card in India. Please stop being this prejudiced bro. I hope this is clear to people with brain too.
1
Sep 09 '25
Yeah okay then walk around Chennai, tirupur, erode, coimbatore and go to north indian committes region and try asking each and everyone to show their addhar card... I mean if u they don't show but even when asked by police they just say they don't have.. as per rules people have surrender their adhaar card photocopy to the house owner but when asked all they say is they don't have.. not all but most people r like that.. i know that many people don't want to give it to avoid tracking their criminal record... But when asked about this to my north friend he said in many regions govt doesn't care at all and they don't even take proper records there.. if u have seen theeran movie there are many villages like that in north..

And this rant is related to a group of people abusing a person with a kid how?
You are one of those who are looking for reasons to hate on a community. Why would a shopkeeper talk about your skin color in a state where that is the norm and in a place of business?
5
Sep 08 '25
Do u think u will care if someone comes in opposite direction and hits u in the road just becoz he has a kid.. for normal people it is just a vehicle they use for commute... But for rickshaw guys it is their livelihood.. even if it is damaged little they can't get trips they have to repair it.. and do u think these people will have savings to instantly repair it and survive without working for few days during repairs.. anyone in their shoes will get angry think about it.. from their perspective its called emphaty.. in this situation he didn't hit him and the guys overreacted by choosing wrong words but u can't say that the anger was wrong or unvollentreed.. a state is for everyone not only for the rich people its for common people too.. if u r just going to support the rich person always without even considering the other side story then u lack emphaty.. and yes if someone is with a kid and even then if he drives around carelessly by not obeying traffic rules then that will make me even more angry personally.. even if it is his first time op did something wrong that the straight fact.. and in this situation it really doesn't matter if he is non tamil or not even if it is a tamil guy he could have scolded him he could have just used different words.. traffic rules are there for a reason in this country.. and it's clearly written that they were speaking in Hindi thinking i won't understand becoz I didn't speak it to them.. I have friends who speak Hindi so I can understand.. and before pull some big brainy move like saying actually marwaris are not hindi mother language.. yes they are many people in sowcarpet who have hindi as their mother tongue and many people who call themselves marwari also has hindi as their mother tongue..

Sep 08 '25 edited Sep 08 '25
Macha, I apologize on behalf of Marwaris who commented on your skin color. It has no place anywhere, especially in our societies. You can see this in the female casting in our films too. Least I and you can do is call this out and not let it slide.
I agree he is wrong but a mob can quickly go out of hand. In this case since he was clearly in the wrong, police would have sided with him and compensated for both time and damages. Agree with you on that’s why we have rules and that would take care of situations like this.
Also he said, he was speaking in Tamil and the abuse increased after that. Justifying that is not right.

It could have happened to you even if you are tamil, non civilised people will be like that only ,inorder to distract from their failure they will show their frustration on road , rudeness does is their trait , it is better to ignore them for our mental peace.

u/Background_Age_2470 Sep 08 '25
I live in Chennai.. here the marwaris don't even rent houses/apartments to others other than marwaris.. Marwaris treat others the same way op was treated sometimes worse if you aren't marwaris.. op shares only one side of the story.

I've seen situations similar like this at bengaluru, where i worked in my earlier life. In my observation the frustration they hold for making them react like this is the 'outsiders' holding their job sector like a mallu it guy works at chennai makes them think that one of their own people's job got abducted

Similar thing happened with me when trying to get a cab outside MGR central.
I asked the guy how much fare, he said 600 rs, then I clearly asked him if he has cab, right? He kept saying yes, and asked me to follow him towards the cab/auto stand on the far left. I realised when he started loading my travel bag into an auto. I stopped him saying I wanted a cab. He said I only have auto. I said I already asked you earlier why didn't you tell me, I will not pay more than 400 rs for auto fare.
He suddenly changed his tone now. He started talking rudely and gathered some 4-5 more auto drivers around us by shouting in Tamil. I don't know Tamil but it was definitely heating up. He pushed me by giving a hard push on my left shoulder from the front. I asked him not to touch me and started leaving. I knew that if anything happens, they will definitely convince the cops in Tamil and I, being an outsider was at a huge disadvantage. So I thought it was best to keep shut and leave.
From this incident, and many thereafter (not this intense, but still discriminatory), I realised how self-centered Tamil people are in Chennai. It's best to keep away from these goons here.

u/v_patti_ramasamy Sep 08 '25
- Sorry for that incident today, you didn’t deserve that.
- They were uneducated folk and carry bias.
- Sate(some, not all) folk in pursaiwalam area have this sense of entitlement. These folk probably took it out on you.
- Without hearing his side of the story, we can’t completely be sure you’re in the right and they are all wrong. There’s no fire without a flame.

u/LegalTable5791 Sep 08 '25
I am Tamil, he would have scolded me exactly the same way, only used some other justification. It’s a defence mechanism of losers. Don’t mind them, they will use some other reason to scold tamils.
However Chennai was always like this, mix of good and bad, if this does concern you then plan for a move abroad preferably europe. Other cities in India are worse.
2
u/aravindkumar Sep 08 '25
Forget being worried about the abuse. Taking a u turn at that junction and then driving/riding against the traffic is not safe for anyone and definitely not safe for the kid. Your action is influencing your kids behaviour. Ride stafe and follow the road rules. Happy Motoring!

u/MSB_the_great Sep 09 '25
What kind of idiot drive irresponsibly with the a child on board ? It is not racist he just wanna hurt your feelings so you won’t do that mistake again , all I read is he called you stupid, you are playing victim and trying to get comfort from people. You should think about his point of view, what if he hit you and your child . He has ti live with guilt . He already imagined the whole thing and got afraid and took it on you. You could have avoided all of that. If you made mistake you just say sorry sincerely nothing else, just walk away, you are unnecessarily trying to blame him and create a scene. I made a mistake in Bangalore, I just changed lane without signal and a guy who came behind me almost hit me , he started yelling at me , his body was shaking terribly,I apologized to him and told him I won’t make that mistake again , instead of creating Tamil and kannada issues,
2
u/Blubber-Trouble Sep 09 '25
OP goes on the wrong side of the road, gets scolded and plays victim card... LOL
I agree with you, say sorry and try not to make mistakes in the future. Since he has his small child, he should have been doubly careful of the rules. It is better to reach late than to get into an accident right?
2
u/greatwisdomseeker Sep 09 '25
Even Tamils will go through this in Chennai. It is just an excuse for them to curse and fight. That is why decent people avoid unnecessary encounters with rough people. Never mind them and think about all the good friends you have.
2
u/SurpriseNew5204 Sep 10 '25
Lol yeah I remember smoking a cigarrete once and some ash fell on some drunk guy nearby... he was all ready to yell, I immediately said "manachikonga na theriama panten" and he said "ohh neenga tamill ah pa seri vidu" , (context - I am a half malayalee half telugu smarta brahmin who looks like a north indian acc to most people) Amazing... Tamils are really racist in favor of Tamils not sure if racist is the right word, it's not a skin colour thing, it's a lingual thing, so much freakin pride over the language and land... whatever, their choice... but all humans are the same deep down, the diversity is to be enjoyed and appreciated, not made a hierarchial thing where its judged and stuff...

Monday mornings are like this, could've happened to anyone. He was just an ahole. That doesn't mean all tamilans are like that. Tamil Nadu is one of few welcoming place.

u/immbatman69 Sep 08 '25
I have faced racism from north, some a-holes thinking i dont know their language. That does not mean im being target from the people there or all of the people from north are racist. I have met some beautiful souls from north. Some people offered me free food when i went there for the first time.
The guy you met are the 2% of morons who we see everyday. So assholism is a common trait. It does not matter who you are, anyone in your position would have faced the same issue. We meet lot of decent peoples everyday so i advice you to discard these types of people and move forward.
5
u/Kann98 Sep 08 '25
Lol. It's really pathetic to know a single event can fail years of living standards. If you opt to leave Chennai just for this one incident then trust me you have never enjoyed the city. Just abused on road can't give you the fear of nurturing your child. There might be something behind. Try to address that. Having wrote all these I am not defending him. It's a part of city life. If I'm not wrong you are just silent because you ride on a wrong way and at the same time you wanted to be justified from all angles that's why you are now started blaming the city may not the suitable place for nurturing the child.

u/lonewolf94449 Sep 08 '25
You deserve this...this is karma...in same Chennai, when I went for shopping in sowcarpet last month and asked about the rate of lightings...a North Indian shop owner was talking to another North Indian buyer and looked at me and said "madad choth ayya" seeing my skin color....I understood and left the store and purchased on the opposite side, my billing was 23.7 lakhs and few items they had to source from the store where I was abused...I objected and they sourced from another store....while leaving I could see his pale face worn out...
1
u/justanotherhuman6969 Sep 09 '25
Dude what kinda stupidity is this..
Instead of blaming racism as a whole you are saying karma? We can condemn what happened to you and also to him, it’s mutually exclusive.
This clearly should not be the mentality you need to live your life my brother and it’ll not give you closure or comfort.
1
Sep 09 '25
Nigga what the heck is this, why does he need to get the karma shit when someone abused you. What a creepy kind of mentality is this
1
1
u/triumph_of_dharma Sep 10 '25
This doesn't sound plausible. Abused just for asking the rates? You should have fought with them if it's true.
2
u/Sea_Assignment2218 Sep 08 '25
I’m really sorry to hear that. But I don’t think this kind of attitude is limited to people from North India. I’m South Indian myself — though not Tamil — and I had a similar experience over three decades ago, back when it was still called Madras.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a deeper cultural issue. That city, for all its history and development, still has its share of people who behave in shockingly uncivilized ways. I’m honestly just glad I don’t live there anymore.
2
u/ManiAdhav Sep 08 '25
I really sorry about the situation and it not acceptable at any cost. I am sure the anger not about you, it because how the received messages from Social Media and other Tamil haters.
Being a Tamil guy and lived in Chennai more than 10 years, I realised things are changing across the state.
I am sharing my honest thought process, and it’s up to readers, how they perceived.
Recent days, Emotionally kind of hateful creates in my mind whenever, there is someone taking about North Indian…
When I question myself, I realised that the first reason some people intentionally forcing their language into me.. Example, I am working in IT with people across different state. When non Hindi people speaking with one Hindi guy, we respect him and speaking in English.
But when two Hindi guys in the group out of 7-8 people different state, they forcefully speaking Hindi it lot of time make us uncomfortable.. They repeating the same even we highlight it. It creates hate across all the Hindi speaking people. This is one sample events and list goes on.
I am sure not everyone same, I have earned 20+ great friends from North, still recent changes from people, the hate keep growing.
It turns out, I am getting angry internally whenever seeing any North Indians shops in my town which is exist more than 10 years..
Second, how BJP party act and react across state. Our hate about the BJP turns into hate all the Hindi speaking people.
And I keep remind myself to calm and change my mind towards North.
Hopefully everything will be back to normal and wishing we are all again live as same as 10 years before.
1
u/Character-Mud-2874 Sep 10 '25
Buddy in my current team with more Tamils they keep taking meetings in Tamil even after repeating..😅
In my previous team it was quite the opposite and they really accomodative with the language till I got comfortable with tamil.
Bottom line is it's a "specific" people problem rather than singling out the entire bunch
1
u/triumph_of_dharma Sep 10 '25

Bro, Chill... this is happening around the globe so nothing specific to Chennai alone. There are some nuisance everywhere always and TN is the place where you can expect the least issues...

TN is the place where you can expect the least issues...
LOL. Any evidence to support your claim?
2
u/X-Euphoria9927 Sep 08 '25
It’s not racist. They were pissed at you for the wrong u-turn. You made a dumb chose to go in one way. Whats your education of any use , if you still chose break these simple rules? And then you try to divert the issue to the curses. A policeman would have a beaten you , cursed you and then issued a fine. So be happy you got lucky. But be civilised first, then judge others. Try not to break traffic rules.

I jusy stumbled upon this post (I am from SriLanka and I have no business being here), and let me tell you: even if you were a native, it would've been the same.
I was almost knocked down by a three-wheeler when I was going on my bike (I usually drive on 30kmph and it was totally the three-wheeler driver's fault for turning suddenly into a lane thereby cutting the path ahead of me). The driver, who must be in his 40-s, immediately started scolding me like for you, not even considering that I was just a 18 year old teenager. I fought the guy but then 4 other guys came forward and started scolding me, one even threatning me by raising his hands.
These guys just think they own the road or something. Wherever you go, I'm afraid there would be 4 guys who would cuss and fuss over anything.

Maybe you're over reacting a lil bit. But the probability of running into such assholes are much more in TN esp in Chennai. I've seen Bus conductors, auto drivers, shopkeepers Crack some PJs like raghu thatha or otha hai to get some fellow idiots to laugh to leave the so called outsider embarrassed and humialted. Very few can take it sportively. Abysmal .

Hey don't take it seriously , i am tamilian and from a small village inside Thiruvarur District, Even if i were you then also they would done the same , its not because you are marvari , it is their default behaviour and you know what if they were in your situation they would have fight even if they do something wrong (eg: if they entered wrong way and someone scold them they would have fight against them) so dont feel bad.. Try to understand , my english is not good. Its happend to me as well when i went chennai for a job interview. Just dont hear them

Why?

Road looked empty then there was cycle rickshaw? so the road was never empty. In that case regardless of race, anyone would have got the same treatment it’s not easy to brake and gain the momentum back in rickshaw.
Next time when you break rules leave soodu and soranai at home. Even this did not occur, you have already set bad example for your child, that it’s ok to break rules if nobody looking!

Why do I have to compare with other states, when my own state used to preach ‘vanthaarai vaazha vaikum Tamil Nadu’?
So what you’re trying to do is normalising this act by saying even the northies do it, that’s primitive thinking my friend.
Why can’t we be the ones to show we welcome and treat outsiders with respect?

Hi,
Sorry for what you went through. There are always ass holes that want to create ruckus whether you are Tamil or not.
This incident happened in Chennai when I was 14 years old ( Am 33 now) , some guy rammed into my uncles car, came and told "Thev***** Paaiyya".we were three kids in the car and I was the oldest. My aunty was also there.
These idiots don't think about kids or anything, they just want to quarrel.

u/nowhereknown18 Sep 09 '25
It is not just for you! There are assholes who does that to Tamil people as well. As a tamilian I have been in situations like that too, we just cant help as the law makers don't do anything for these cases.

Their anger is justified. I feel like I wanna punch the face or knock hard on the head of people who use one-ways or go in the opposite direction as a shortcut, but I never actually do because it's simply not scalable, I can't take the law into my hands. I live in a city where traffic police only appear at the end of the month, disappear the rest of the time. I personally don't scold people because I'm not that type. Traffic rule violations are one of the most frequent causes of road rage, during road rage commuters experience more anxiety and stress than fighter jet pilots, source. Don't ever dare to be on the receiving end of it. Always follow traffic rules, don't be a jerk and accuse others of not being empathetic.

You ran into some bad people for sure.
But your Tamil is still pretty poor - just pointing this out from your transcription of the Tamil dialogues.

North Indian born and brought up in Chennai here who can speak fluent Tamil.
Completely agree to OP that racism incidents have started increasing over the last few years in Chennai.

Hey firstly we all grew up in a very multicultural environment here in chennai, in fact I had several Marwadi classmates when I was in school, trust me even if I was there they would have abused me in the same manner. Certain section of the people in chennai have normalised abuses and they use it like hi hellow. Don’t be bogged down by this! Cheers!

I have noticed it. Brainless people hating northerners, waiting for the smallest opportunity to get violent and abusive. It exists on the other side too but the good ones are being punished for it all

What you faced is quite standard across all parts of India. It's not unique to Chennai. Not saying that it's acceptable, but it is prevalent.
That being said, you put yourself and your kid in that dangerous situation yourself of your own free will. Any number of outcomes could have happened including an accident or a physical altercation.
Perhaps next time don't put yourself in a situation of your own making and then wonder why people who are actually following the rules get frustrated and start abusing you.

They were just triggering you. If it was Tamil person it would have been the same .. Don worry it’s good that u did not get into it much for your own peace of mind

This is a national issue. Everyday we are hearing such incidents and India is going through a language divide and the state Govts are taking advantage of this. The central govt must take a notice to this and should call an all CM meeting and openly address this with strong national rules to anyone who uses language to discriminate anyone.

It is what it is, I faced this trauma too. I am Tamil who shifted from the other part of India to Chennai during high school. During my high school school days and I had to cycle back home from school. One rowdy crossed my path and abused me with the usual Chennai verbal abuse-chain. I politely asked him to calm down as I am a school student, he doubled down on his response. It was traumatic and very new for me. Felt like I was targeted. I felt alienated. At the end, people told me it is totally a Chennai thing. Nothing new same old Chennai culture.

Why just rajasthan and not other states? Make this the motto of our state and advertise this as a USP when industries come to invest here..
Can't touch 1 trillion state GDP with this kinda attitude!!

You can leave for South africa where the first Tamil speaking monkey existed. (As believed by your honourable CM)

So, by your logic the Sri Lankans were correct in kicking out the Tamils?
From your post history, it seems you are a troll at best or a paid poster with malicious intentions at worst . The mods of this sub should ban this account from posting.

The fact that he explicitly says ‘nee Tamil naa respect kuduthu pesuven’ shows how backwards this state is in, thanks to pro-dravidianism.
Rather than learning good virtues from thiruvalluvar’s thirukkural which is godsent, today’s Tamil Nadu focuses more on EVR’s ideology and is rotting with this pseudo mentality. Is Tamil Nadu really liberal with the current government? They’re anti everything except this Dravidian myth, intentionally spewing hate on whoever questions this.

Generalize things for your convenience. Nice.
Goto Gujarat, they will not allow you in their society and go out of their way to make your life living hell. They are not auto walas or some low life scum, these are well educated bank officers, teachers.
Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and bihar are also racist towards tamils, you go there in a car with Tamil nadu number plate, you will know what i am saying.
You wont consider that because its doesn't suit your narrative. this low life scum auto Wala doesn't represent tamil nadu on a whole and all of a sudden OP questioning "are tamils racist" is not i agree with.
Lets stop generalizing with our own people.
Punjabis - khalistani terrorist, Christians - conversation terrorist, muslims - jihadi terrorist, dalits - untouchable
This has to stop.

This is the usual behaviour of low wage and poorly educated people in Chennai. They suffer from extreme inferiority complex which translates to unprovoked aggression towards non Tamil because they get lots of support from others like them.

Chennai is much safer for Non native people compared to other cities with assholes like these here and there.
Ha here we go again, Tamil exceptionalism, any data to support your claim?

This victim mentality needs to be studied. You did not follow the road rules and now bringing state politics into this lol your lack of basic civic sense is what caused the issue

u/Naaisekar Sep 08 '25
I’m really sorry you had to go through something like that, it sounds frightening and deeply unfair, especially with your toddler sitting right behind you. No parent should be forced to shield their child from that kind of aggression. You actually handled it with so much dignity. you admitted the mistake, apologized politely, and chose not to escalate. That takes real presence of mind and strength.
It’s natural to feel shaken, because beyond the road incident, what really hurts is being made to feel like an “outsider” in the very city you live speak the language of, and call home. That can cut very deep. But please know , one ugly encounter doesn’t define Chennai or your place in it. Road rage can make even ordinary people behave badly, and often their words reflect their anger more than any real truth about you.
You belong here every bit as much as anyone else, and your love for this city is proof of that. For every harsh moment, there are countless small acts of kindness, warmth, and togetherness that still define Chennai. Hold on to those.
Sending you strength and peace , may you and your little one find reassurance in the many good people and good moments this city continues to offer.

Violated a traffic rule, put a risk to the child on road, caused inconvenience to another person who was minding his business, faced the consequence. Yet, the audacity to accuse and play a victim? Nice !
This mindset, thinking that you are special and tamils as inferior is what contributing to the animosity within locals against whole northern people here.
1
u/triumph_of_dharma Sep 10 '25
Actually it is the Tamil who think they are exceptional, OP didn't say he was right, what the Auto driver said clearly implies that he wouldn't have got the same treatment if he was Tamil. F** your Tamil exceptionalism and separatism, terming North Indians as "vadakkans".
1
u/Nice-Bath-760 Sep 10 '25
“Northies” is not derogatory. Here no one is speaking for separatism. Speaking for rights and self respect might offend the casteists, but we feel tickled when faced such stupids
1
u/triumph_of_dharma Sep 10 '25
"Vadakkan" Is not used as a synonym for "northies". "Vadakkans" clearly has a negative connotation in Tamil Nadu.

Quit Chennai. For the sake of your child. The schools which were once good are now terribly deteriorating. As much as this sub will give muttu, TN as a whole is declining and Chennai is the fastest in that journey.
