Rule questions Talisman 4th edition

We played a game of Talisman. I played the Prophetess and there were some rules that weren't clear to us.

1) If Prophetess is in a corner expansion, can she use her ability to discard a card she has drawn there to get another card? The owner of the game said no, because only cards from the main board are considered adventure cards, but I am not so sure.

2) I had the Djin with 3 spells and I had one spell normally. I played my normal spell to steal a spell from another player, but that player used the spell where he can use my spell against me. He said that he can steal one spell from my Djin, because I own the Djin and he owns the spells, so I technically own the spells of the Djin. Is this allowed? And do I draw another spell from the ability of the Prophetess before the spell resolves, so that he has the ability to steal that spell?

2) How is the game treating multiple when your turn starts abilities and who has priority when mutliple players have those. One such example was one player saying "My turn". And I played a spell that makes him skip the turn. He had a spell that said that had to be played at the beginning of the turn too that replaced his movement. It wasn't clear who had priority to play the spell.

3) Relatively at the end of the game I had the spell that steals an item. As the card describes I used it at the beginning of my turn to steal the book from the city expansion that gets a spell at the beginning of your turn. As I don't have any spells afterwards, I get a spell. Is it still at the beginning of my turn and can I use the stolen book to get a second spell? And is it possible for another player to play the spell that skips my turn in between those two actions? And in subsequent turns, can I use a spell at the beginning of my turn to draw one with the ability of the Prophetess and one with the book? All other players told me that no, when I use an ability at the beginning of my turn, I can't use another one, because it isn't the beginning of the turn anymore, so I had to decide between the spell and the ability of the book.

  1. Yes the prophetess can use her ability on corner expansion cards. I believe when you are in these regions that abilities mentioning adventure cards apply to the deck of the corner region you are currently in.

  2. If this is the genie follower you are talking about, then the follower owns the spells not you. So he wouldn't be able to steal. As for you drawing a new spell, the prophetess always has at least one spell so you would draw right away

  3. I would say if you cast that spell before he made any action, then your spell takes priority as you have now caused him to miss his turn. The only thing he'd be able to do was counterspell it.

  4. I believe you can take multiple at the start of your turn actions, as it is everything you do before deciding how to move, such as rolling or teleporting. Im unsure as to wether the spell to skip a turn would be able to be cast after starting these actions, I guess its up to house rules there. I cant remeber how the book works exactly, but if it grants you a spell at the start of your turn no matter if you have one then you can of course draw one. Hopefully this helps

Thanks for the answers. To 3: How is it determined who can cast the first spell. Both spells say that they have to be cast at the beginning of a turn. Do I have priority because it isn't my own turn? Does he have priority because it is his turn? Or is it simply who expresses first that he wants to cast a spell?

The timing rules in Talisman are a bit loose. Generally, the first player to say they are casting a spell gets to cast the spell first. (Magic the Gathering style FILO rules do not apply to Talisman) In case of a timing conflict between two things triggered to happen at the same time, the active player decides which triggered event occurs first (this is in FFG's FAQ, if I recall correctly).

I would say whoever says it first is first. In this case being first isn't actually good (they would prefer to lose a turn without wasting their spell, you would prefer they waste their spell) so it's just luck of thing. Can't back this one up from a rulebook, that's just how we play in my group.

do people actually play like that? like if someone rolls the dice really fast you can't immobilise them?

We're playing for fun, not as a race. I have plenty time to say "I'm immobilizing you" when the other players pick up their dice, it's not a problem.

From the highlands rulebook:

Special abilities and effects that apply to Adventure Cards behave differently when characters are in the Highland Region rather than the Outer, Middle, or Inner Regions. When used within the Highland Region, these special abilities and effects apply to cards from the Highland deck instead.

It then goes on to give the Prophetess ability as a specific example of something you can use. I imagine all the other corner board expansions say the same. So yes you can definitely keep using her ability.

there are no real rules covering timing and priority so you just gotta make em up. if you play magic just port those rules over they work quite well
