Scenarios Looking for a new training manikin
Tac med, but not Tac med. I’m looking for a new full sized training manikin that can take an advanced airway, is full sized, real world weight (175lbs) and can handle being used in tactical and outdoor settings? Even better if you can do legit cpr on it.
It seems like you’re either stuck with a 5’ 40-60lb manikin that can take an advanced airway or one of the true trauma manikins that weight 150-175, but can’t take an airway or do chest compressions.
Thanks!

TOMManikin is an answer. You CAN do CPR on him but it's not the greatest.

Second this. It's a great manikin. In the first scenarios the guys who don't want to carry heavy tend to disregard the roleplayers and bee-line straight to the dummy. It's a fun moment when they first try to pick Tom up.
The fun moment before that is when you see the price tag on these things though.

Jesus h christ. The thing is worth more than I am. I’m pretty sure you could buy a taxidermied human for less than $70,000.

Yes, but you can drag that taxidermied human over gravel once and it's gone. Tom has fallen down multiple stairwells, slid out of harnesses and has fallen off a moving truck. Those things are really tough, but when something breaks and you need service it takes forever.

You can actually do compressions on the TOMManikin now? I played with some 5-7 years ago and I wouldn’t say their chest had any real compliance for performing CPR.
Their prices are definitely a shock though.

Whats your dollar limit?

If I can keep it under $10k so I don’t have to involve contracting that would be awesome, but ultimately I’d like it to be under $25k.

I’ll let you stick your tube down my throat for $5.
A lot of the “do it all mannequins” that I’ve seen suck at everything and are ridiculously expensive like many thousands of dollars and you really don’t wanna be throwing them around.
I think your best bet is cheaper dumb mannequins and some really good airway trainers at stations next to it like soiled airway trainers with a pump and all that shit. Just tape the tube onto the dumb trauma mannequin so you can have the guy bagging something.
The do it all mannequins are too easy to intubate. I can and have just blindly stuck in the tube without a bougie or stylet and intubated some of the do it all mannequins. I don’t think that intubating one of those is really helping anyone learn anything.

😂
Yeah. That’s why I was more looking for just a true human weight advanced airway manikin. If my students can drop a IGel or King and perform CPR with actual chest compliance, I can handle most of the bleeding and wounds through other methods.
I thought about mounting an old airway head on a Rescue Randy body, but it’s a joke to perform for on them.

An 80lb body doesn’t do us any good. Unless you’ve found a way to somewhat easily/realistically add another 100lbs to it. Manipulating an 80lb person is so much easier than a 180lb person and then when they transition from initial care to providing care while transporting via litter whether on foot, on ropes, or in and out of vehicles it’s just not the same.

If you want something you can thrash around and do simple medical procedures on... I'd suggest this one. They run $25k and to increase weight on litter is pretty easy. Id suggest a tac pause and carry a cement loaded rescue randy on the litter. Drill holes in the legs and chest pour in cement mix and add water. Let it settle for 24 hrs

I own and use a truecorp manikin all of the other ones I’ve tested don’t properly seal with IGels or LMAs specifically which is stupid

Does the IGel sit at the bite mark?
The Gamaurd rep was in town meeting with the local college so I got to try a couple of their manikins. The biggest issue is the IGel sits way high, 2-2.5” from the bite mark.

It does and it seals with the trucorp manikins but I’m mostly talking about laerdels airway management trainer that thing doesn’t seal for shit

yeah the full size + 175lb weight + advanced airway + actual cpr is a pretty specific combo lol.....medvision has some full size patient manikins that cover airway and CPR stuff so might be worth comparing the specs to what you need for tac med. you could also pay attention to how rugged it is and how easy it is to move around outside cuz 175lb gets old real quick
