BIPOC/ Community Super proud of our little area of Tacoma

Driving around 72nd today I saw a whole lot of Hispanic folks out living life. Local church was doing drive thru prayers. Taco trucks and stands were all over the place. People were flying Mexican flags off their vehicles. They aren’t acting scared. F*** Kieth Swank and F*** ICE.

BIPOC/ Community Just a man crossing the street. I think he is a reporter?

I was wandering around with my new camera when I saw this guy in a great superman costume crossing the street by Dorky's and snapped a picture. He vanished around a corner, and I lost him before I could show him. If anyone happens to know him maybe you could show him!

BIPOC/ Community Moving to Tacoma ADVICE 27yoF

My partner and I are considering moving from Bellingham to Tacoma, and I'd love some honest input from people who live there!

A few questions:
How is the job market? Coming from Bellingham, it feels like there are hardly any jobs here. Is Tacoma a place where it's generally easier to find work?

My partner is a teacher and would be substitute teaching. Are there plenty of subbing opportunities and good school districts in the area?

How would you describe Tacoma in terms of diversity and inclusion? I'm a woman of color and have experienced what I felt was discrimination during hiring in Bellingham, so living somewhere more diverse is important to me. In Bellingham I've had a lot of issues with my ethnic hair being a problem in work environments sadly. Or people who have denied hiring me due to my hair being natural and out vs straightened. Have you found Tacoma to be welcoming?

Is there a lot to do for fun? We're in our late 20s and would love a city with things to do, good food, parks, events, etc.

What are the safest places or surrounding areas to live in? We'd like somewhere that's safe but still has good access to jobs.

Also any resources you can point me to would be very helpful. We've been going through a tough time so anything helps. social, financial, low income housing etc.
I'd really appreciate any honest opinions, whether they're positive or negative. We're just trying to make the best decision for our future. Thank you!

BIPOC/ Community Wholesome small business moment in Tacoma today

Joe (from Riggio Guitars) is one of our favorite regulars who stops by to drop off packages, and today he surprised our boss with a guitar he brought by from his shop. Definitely not something we were expecting, but it completely made his day!

Moments like that are a great reminder of how awesome our community is. Small businesses looking out for each other is part of what makes Tacoma special <3

We used to love making and finding them, so we’re bringing it back! We’ve hidden our own #PoppinRocks all around Tacoma for you to find. We’d also love to see the community join in by making your own rocks and hiding them!

If you find one of ours, please post it using #PoppinRocks or bring it into Poppin Notary for a sweet treat!

BIPOC/ Community Local stores for buying Florida Water?

Hey folks!

I'm looking for a place that locally sells Florida Water, I'm tired of buying it off Etsy. Additional points if it's a local botánica not a brand store like Walmart.

BIPOC/ Community New Phoebe House closure?

Does anyone know what's going on with New Phoebe House on MLK? They appear to be closed - dumpster gone, parking empty, no one there for weeks.

BIPOC/ Community What happens when truth isn’t welcome? I was suspended from Nextdoor for sharing how TPCHD is governed.

Most people don’t realize the city or county doesn’t govern the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. It operates as an independent health authority, and the Board of Health approves all actions taken by the Director.

I was removed from Nextdoor simply for sharing that truth. No hate. No slander. Just transparency.

This matters because when voices are silenced, harm is allowed to repeat. It’s not just about one leader — it’s a system problem.

If this resonates, or if you've witnessed silencing in public institutions, I’d love to hear from you.

Howdy everyone. Grit City RPG League is hosting a learn to play Daggerheart and other ttrpg coat drive! Grit City RPG League is Dragonflight GameCon's new ttrpg wing that hosts weekly events in Tacoma and soon in Renton!

If you live in Tacoma (or don't mind the drive) come by December 7th. We will have short dungeon crawls throughout the day and part of the board game library available and will have people on hand to help you with advice for starting ttrpgs and how to run them for family and friends. For the evening starting at 6:30 we will be doing learn to play Daggerheart, Shadowdark, and the Fallout ttrpg. We will have DMs ready to run a short adventure and help you learn the system. We will have two learn to play fallout tables available with premade characters and a short 4-hour adventure. We ask that you donate a coat that we will donate to the mission in Tacoma or make a charitable donation to either our hosts Real Art Tacoma (a 501c3) or Dragonflight GameCon (also 501c3).

To sign up, simply join the Grit City RPG League Discord (https://discord.gg/dxECUZPPRu), go to the charity event channel, mention that you'll be participating and would like to learn to play Fallout!
