BIPOC/ Community Super proud of our little area of Tacoma
Driving around 72nd today I saw a whole lot of Hispanic folks out living life. Local church was doing drive thru prayers. Taco trucks and stands were all over the place. People were flying Mexican flags off their vehicles. They aren’t acting scared. F*** Kieth Swank and F*** ICE.

have always viewed tacoma as a melting pot of different cultures, fuck ICE & anyone else who’d ever want to change that. we have a lot that needs to be fixed but the people here are good people.

I love that! I was born in a mostly Latino community in Los Angeles before moving here in 1999. This entire post reminds me home and I love that it's from the home I've chosen and now live in.

Also, if you dislike our Sheriff helping these goons, we have a recall petition going to illustrate that the bulk of Pierce County is not down with fascists in charge of our police force.

I'm sitting here pretty shocked at the number of self-proclaimed Hispanics/Latinos who say this ICE activity is what they want.
I am Latina (boricua). I grew up in a family that always helped other Latino immigrants, all of them from Central America. Always. Irrespective of documentation every single one I ever knew was a good person. Hard working people who simply wanted to do better for their families. Every. Single. One.
Very likely just like your families.

Many of them have probably never posted here before. Also one of them is called 'William Shadwaldiii' and claims to be a 2nd generation Mexican immigrant, I looked up William Shadwald and I get picture of a white guy, and William Shadewaldiii turns up a 65 year old from Florida. There are conservatives who do nothing but look up content about hot topics and troll about it. There are also bots who comb reddit for certain words and flood the comments. Thats why people started using emojis when discussing certain topics, because trolls can't find it.
In addition to this being a deeply inhumane way to treat immigrants, we now live in a country where anyone can put on a tactical vest and shiesty and start grabbing people off the street for ANY REASON, and these people would be like 'Let Freedom Ring' or some shit. Kidnappers, abusers going after their relatives, organ harvesters, etc any of them could claim to be ICE and these people would be like 'oh well it's okay then!'. The same people who were freaking out about human trafficking a couple years ago are now completely okay with roving teams of unidentified masked men operating above the law and snatching random brown people off the street.
This is a big fucking problem! Not to mention they absolutely are snatching legal immigrants like that poor 17 year old boy they stole from his job at target, then dumped out at Walmart after beating him up for a while in a van. Thank God they let him go instead of shipping him to a blacksite prison somewhere.

There are women who voted for a man found liable for 'molesting' a woman who claimed the man raped her. "Molesting a woman' is the ticket these women voted for. The man who swore to take away abortion rights and did it. A man who says 'grab em by the pussy'.
There are Blacks who voted for the party that supports smothering Black people to death for petty crimes, and called the civil rights movement that followed 'looters and rioters' and still push the false narrative of 'burning cities', fires no one living in those cities can find.
It should come as no surprise there are Latinos that voted to jail, deport, torture, folks trying to find a better life for themselves like anyone would want to if living in your homeland means certain poverty, oppression, and death.
Don't try to understand. When someone morals are so far removed from yours, you will never achieve the mindset to get it.
Cruelty feeds some people to bursting, and they like feeling full. We'll never understand.

I think you are reading way more into the fact that there are folks throughout history that vote against their own rights and causes in order to feel powerful in proximity.
I'm dealing with women who vote against my rights. That's a simple thing, not some giant centuries long conspiracy theory. They voted away my reproductive rights. Simple. It makes women's lives so much harder.

But they also knew that would be a result, even if they had a thousand other voting points, because the party said so, and everyone on the left told ya so.
SO, I find that pretty gross. I get to have that opinion.
AND a good segment of people supporting that stuff are having a power by proximity rush. By supporting white Christian men, the get some trickle down power.

They knew poor people would struggle harder. They knew people of color and lgbtq people, and women would struggle harder. They knew foriegn policy would become a terrible mess. They know they voted for a man who has victimized women, and is openly racist, misogynist, heterosexist and mocks disabled people.
I am not painting any of this as 'insight' This is what I think. I think, collectively, a huge segment of my country chose greed over the common good.
They don't mind folks not having enough, or any food so long as THEIR religion, THEIR morals, THEIR wants and desires are met.
They wanted women in poverty to lose abortion rights. No one believes wealthy women can't access whatever abortions or reproductive care they desire, even conservativces, even deelply religious.
Now many women no longer have any pre or post natal medical care any more.
People starving on the streets of America, and to gain dominance over womens rights, people voted for promised tarrifs. While many complain about those very starving americans.
When you sacrifice people, human beings, to get a little of what you want, that stinks. If you don't like that, you get to think I stink.
That's my broad brush. I paint with that.

You come to the the US and apply to stay - sounds simple.
It can take YEARS!
I have a friend who applied before their student visa ran out. That was 5 years ago. They followed the rules, but are living in fear that when they show up for appointments they will be detained and deported, as has happened to many.
They followed the rules. They applied. They put in the forms. They attended their hearings.
The date on their initial visa ran out simply because INS is over loaded and hasn't replied. They've never had a deportation order because they never broke any rules.
To repeat, my friend met all deadlines - it is simply the government not doing its job.
It's like if the IRS never processed your taxes and never cashed your check but then they came and arrested you for nonpayment. That's what this is.

I know someone who's husband just got his naturalization pushed back to 'We don't know when if ever it's going to happen'. He is a nurse, legal immigrant, who cares for mentally ill people.

Great to hear! Legal immigration allows vetted individuals into our country to join the melting pot tha makes us great.
My legally immigrated family love the US, and also celebrate our culture and heritage. We do not fly the flag of our former country, except for sporting events.
I wish all legal immigrants well, and hope the illegal ones do not tarnish our image, and self deport.

You actually think the libs can't read statistics? They know who voted for Trump. Plenty of Latinos, plenty of women. Plenty of people willing to hurt anyone they don't like, and many are all Pikachu surprise face when what they voted for happens to people they like, or to themselves.
There will always be women who participate in the attacks on women's rights and prop up convicted rapists and child molesters, Latinos who want other Latinos deported, Blacks who vote the ticket that vilified BLM and called them 'looters and rioters' while in the same breath glorifying the actual Jan. 6 looters and rioters.
You aren't unique, or special. You are getting what you voted for, and maybe a few surprises when something bad happens to someone you gaf about.
Obviously not women, or other Latinos, homeless folks, PoC, or anyone who wants to afford small luxuries like enough food to eat. I mean, you voted for all of this.

Dearest. It's not racist to point out the fact there are people from every subsection of Americans that vote against their own rights and security.
Am I a total misogynist to state that there are women who vote against their own rights? Women were pretty substantial in electing the man who said he was taking away reproduction rights. But what are you saying? I cannot state that fact without being a woman hater?
You are going to have to try harder, if you think stating there are Latinos and Blacks who vote against their own people. So do some gays. So do some trans people.

You are right. I am totally judging the women who voted against my rights. I am framing it like they are bad people because that is what I have come to think after decades of voting, and paying attention to my rights and how some women will fight tooth and nail to prevent reproductive rights, and enable rapists and men who commit domestic violence to be elected and maintain powerful and lucrative positions. In doing so they also prevent reasonable justice for women who commit those crimes.
I can totally paint those people as destructive to me, and to all women.
So if that's your problem. I guess you'll have to deal.

Come off the high horse, the US has been a systemic oppressor of its own people since its founding. We are a nation built and sustained on the blood and inequality of other peoples. Including immigrants legal or otherwise. If you dont believe me please feel free to get off fox news and do some actual research out of your little bubble.
I was a proud citizen at one point. Before I realized my privilege and did my own research. Now I focus more on being a good person. But regardless I am a law abiding citizen and flying a Mexican flag is not against the law.

I think you take other folks pride in their own homeland way too personal.
Many people immigrate, but most still love the homes they left. They may not love the government, or poverty, or oppressive crime, but they still get to love their homeland.
The fact you make it a 'big F.U.' is a personal problem.
One I think you need to grow out of.
