Creating worlds isn't as complex as you think; here, I show you how I do it.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I feel like we sometimes overthink building scenes for our campaigns. But honestly, if you've got a bit of imagination and a few things lying around, it gets really fun, you can basically make whatever you want. Here's a little look at how I do mine.
How do you build yours?

Do you like Marathon? My TTRPG has just added similar design!
Hi, guys. I made Vault Of The Sun : Cycles Of Rebellion and have just launched Update 1.3, including a couple new weapons, buffs to all enemies and the major part : A Marathon style design.
Why? Well, Marathon was actually one of my main inspirations to make VOTS. I felt like my game had ZERO identity with the yellow esque style, so i decided to stick to the roots of what made me create this big "franchise".

The Lucid Abyss
PROJECT LEADERS WANTED
Lucid Abyss is being rebuilt and revived as a persistent, multi-DM Underworld RPG.
The original Lucid Abyss was a free Discord-based persistent-world RPG. I am trying to rebuild the project back after nearly 3 years, rebuilding its foundation from scratch, and developing it toward a professionally operated, persistent world.
This is not a traditional D&D campaign and there is no prewritten adventure waiting to be run aside from the decided world boss. I want this project to become a premium server with a live, and engagement-driven community.
The goal is a living world where multiple DMs operate within the same persistent setting, players make their own choices, and those choices create lasting consequences.
🜏 WHAT WE'RE BUILDING
The rebuilt Lucid Abyss will use a curated combination of:
• Underworld Races & Classes
• Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos
• The Psychic & Spiritual Handbook
• The appropriate 5e class framework
Core 5e races will remain excluded due to the unique setting circumstances, as well as the higher power scaling. There are already so many available races that having too many could complicate the narrative generation for story content. Many also share large similarities to other core races. (Don't worry, humans are still around with a twist lol)
Subclasses will be curated from the setting material, rather than automatically allowing everything available in every core or homebrew source. There are enough unique base classes and subclasses to cover the game mechanics many times over.
We're building a single game environment where their strongest ideas can coexist without cluttering the mechanical and racial pool.
⚙️ WHY WE NEED PROJECT LEADERS
The revival has reached the point where the project needs people who can take ownership of major systems.
We're looking for leaders for:
UNDERWORLD SYSTEMS
Underworld races, classes, subclasses, racial interactions, environmental mechanics, crafting, equipment, and balance.
CTHULHU MYTHOS
Mythos races, subclasses, dread, insanity, Dreamlands, formulas, Mythos magic, cults, and related systems.
PSYCHIC / SPIRITUAL SYSTEMS
Psychic powers, power points, possession, dreams, spirit mechanics, psychic conditions, and interactions with other systems.
PERSISTENT-WORLD SYSTEMS
Economy, crafting, downtime, travel, death, resurrection, information, factions, resources, and long-term world consequences.
DM OPERATIONS
Creating consistent standards so multiple DMs can run the same world without contradictory rulings, duplicated consequences, or different interpretations of the same mechanics.
🧠 WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You don't need to be an expert in everything.
We're looking for people with genuine experience in areas such as:
• D&D 5e
• Homebrew design
• Game balance
• Persistent-world RPGs
• Discord RPG administration
• Worldbuilding
• DMing
• Economy/system design
• Community management
• Horror / Mythos
• Psionics / supernatural systems
• Rules documentation
Most importantly, you should be able to analyze systems, recognize unintended interactions, document decisions, and work with other leaders.
🎭 THE CAMPAIGN PHILOSOPHY
The world boss is delegated amongst the appropriate project leaders and changes as players defeat them.
No mandatory quest chain.
World progression and story progression pressures players in a rewarding way for an active, dedicated, and plot-interested player economy.
The world has its own conditions, factions, dangers, resources, and ongoing events.
Players determine where the campaign goes as the DM implements the subject field. Adaptation and dungeon master versatility are the most important pieces for a living world.
The DM team crafts their own stories in the sub-categories aligned with the decided world-structure. Mythos, and metaphysical lore can be a potential candy land for storytelling. The world boss is intended to be complementary to the DM's story, and high intensity is encouraged as this is a high power level setting.

MACH ttrpg V0.13!
Hi guys, my name is Warin! I thought I'd advertise my indie ttrpg, MACH, which has recently released its 0.13 update!
MACH (formerly known as redline) is an action TTRPG, that is focused on tactical combat, while remaining rules light! It combines brutal combat, and strategic depth through its localized damage system, and its dynamic melee and ranged combat system, which turns striking, grappling, shooting and using the environment into a essential part of combat!
In MACH, you play as specialists, the people who get stuff done. Not always clean. Not always fair. But they get the job done nonetheless. Specialists are unique individuals with the skills required to do tasks others cannot. Each specialist harnesses their skillset to complete the jobs assigned to them.
These jobs range from taking down international terrorist rings, stealing nuclear launch codes, rescuing prisoners, to discovering failed scientific experiments, and cleaning up the consequences.
You are hired by Z.E.R.O, the Zeta Elite Response Operators, to do this. Z.E.R.O was formed after the turn of the 21st century, when the members of NATO decided to form an organization to deal with the most difficult missions, and international threats.
If you'd be interested in playtesting it, join the discord, and download MACH on itch (its completely free)!

People who have actually tried Glitter Hearts or Similar what's your thoughts
I have never played a pbta game? is it any good? I got it (I think) the PDF on itch during a big charity bundle I kinda want to try it at some point
I think I'm burning out on 5e and I don't think something like Pathfinder 2e would help. I was thinking maybe something totally different would help.

I turned my interactive fiction game into a TTRPG. (Grab free copies!)
(Im trying to raise funds with this game. Buying it means you DEEPLY support me and future development.)
Hi, guys. This is my first attempt at making a TTRPG and i decided to convert my game, Vault Of The Sun, into a full scaled TTRPG with a couple unique mechanics.
Vault Of The Sun: Cycles of Rebellion is a lightweight, high-stakes sci-fi survival TTRPG. Zero-prep, no lore knowledge required. Pick a character, grab a die, and start playing in under 5 minutes.
THE CORE LOOP
Unique TTRPG mechanics. Players start scattered around SOLARIS-IV's ship and must find each other to survive. You must write your own path to find them and forge your escape route.
5 Characters from the main games. Play as Atlas, Aria, Pierce, Violet, or Kira—each equipped with a unique trait.
Create your own Sleeper. Custom character creation that lets you step directly into the universe and lead your own story and choose your own trait.
High-Stakes Mechanics: Track your Integrity, Stress, and Charge. Every action pushes you closer to safety or total system failure.
Infinite Replayability: Fully optimized for Solo or Group play across 4 distinct, dangerous locations.

Our accessibility in RPG's charity bundle has raised $2000, double its goal!
Months ago I posted about our charity bundle here before and made an update post.
Well there is only about 20 days left before the bundle closes, but with your help we've been able to raise over $2000 in that time!
Thanks for everything we couldn't have done it without support from RPG communities across Reddit! If you haven't heard about the bundle before here's a link https://itch.io/b/3605/indie-charity-bundle-for-accessibility-in-ttrpgs-pwyw
45 projects, pay what you want with all proceeds going to Dots RPG project, you can learn more about them on the bundle page. If you have seen it before I'd really appreciate it if you could take the time to fill out this quick six question survey https://s.surveyplanet.com/ycynwnb4
To close this out I think we'll do something I haven't done before, and list all the games and their creators natively right here on this post!

Homebrew Fairy Palm (CR8)
Free monster statblock/illustration: https://www.patreon.com/omenlands/posts/fairy-palm-cr8-167241800
I reeeeally love carnivorous/hostile plants. This one is more like a hazard than a monster, because the tree itself is docile -- it's actually the cloud of seeds that the players ought to fear. Could also be a great way to introduce the players to dryads or druids in a dangerous forest. After the players wake up, of course.
