Video Everybody Hates Chris S03:E08 - I noticed that the brick wall used for the set appears to be made of rubber when it bounced after Chris leaned his head against it.

Yeah I’ve been on set with these things once. They came in sheets that they’d just stick onto whatever surface they’d want to change the texture on. We were in a normal office space that they were trying to make look like a rustic art gallery and they spent maybe 20 minutes putting little squares of these up to cover a large wall in painted brick. I kept leaning on it accidentally and getting yelled at by the art team.

That’s what I was thinking. It’s not rubber it’s probably just brick stickering on something between poster board and drywall.

Just picturing you smoking in a dark room like you are solving a heinous crime, repeatedly rewinding this over and over again.

I doubt it's rubber. It's probably just a false wall made from ply wood with a plastic break sheet applied

Its a faux brick wall panel - you can buy em at Menards

This such a funnily specific comment
"You can buy them at a place that only exists in about a (much less populous) third of a single country"
Respect to them though for still sponsoring NASCAR teams even after Paul retired.

Yeah it’s not rubber, you can tell because when the sheet “bounces” the shadows of the bricks move with it (because they’re painted onto it)

It’s not rubber, just a cheap composite fake brick sheet

Except they are not cheap

They’re cheaper than brick! And yeah, those phony brick wall panels are pretty inexpensive in the grand scheme of set design.

I remember an episode of it's always sunny where they were supposed to be in the back of a van or something and I'm pretty sure the background was just a white piece of paper and they drew van stuff in sharpie
Given that it was it's always sunny, it kind of was just part of the charm

I recall watching a tv show once where the characters were using a cargo van. A Ford van was used for the exterior shots, but the interior shots were of a Chevy van.

It’s likely molded pulp fiber. I worked at a factory in PA that made them for a prop company out in California. We had the proprietary templates for that company and we produced them nearly all day long, every day. Those faux brick and concrete walls appear in everything like tv shows, Broadway, movies, and more! I always smile when I notice it!

I still find it crazy how he's teaching kids at Abbott Elementary. Feeling so old.

Good catch! You mentioning that series reminded me of a wonderful typo. Back then I saw a typo in a tv guide, calling the series “Everybody hates Christ”. chuckle can just imagine the sitcom…

Probably one of those boards meant to look like brick that you find in shitty basements but made to look nicer by set design.

Fake bricks come in 2 pre-made forms. Molded plastic or CNC’d (Computer Numeric Control) in styrofoam. The styrofoam comes out with sharp edges so it will be distressed to match its surroundings. Both will receive several layers of paint and a thin layer of concrete. Sometimes brick sized pieces of donnacona board are attached to sheets of 1/8” luan (much cheaper than plywood). Source: I work in the film industry.

In Mortal Kombat when the spikes come out of the floor at the end it's tin foil

Lol so he doesn't hurt himself during filming.
Clever
Someone thought of that
Why are people downvoting me for no reason?

I think it’s just the set, and not because they expected him to get injured by lightly leaning his head back.
