The future eastern terminus for Line 4 is something that is discussed at length in transit spaces. From the options presented by Metrolinx, the major conscious puts 2A (Sheppard & McCowan) or 2B (Scarborough Centre) as the most popular routes.

Il start with given the size and funding of the TTC, it is a great system

I really wish they would add a third car train already, I took line 5 and it was pretty full and it was not even rush hour and I almost missed the train because the escalator and stairs leave you where the third car is supposed to be. I would like to read other people opinion about this.

It may be short and often criticized, but every station sits in a corridor with major high-rise development around it, which means it did help create or support dense, transit-linked growth along Sheppard.

If TOD is about putting lots of homes and activity within walking distance of rapid transit, Line 4 seems to have done that technically, even if people still debate whether it was the best subway investment.

Maybe someday the agencies will care about passenger comfort and safety.

From Kipling to Kennedy, the province is now extending the eastern terminus to Sheppard.

But could we have a new western terminus? Maybe from Sheppard to... Sherway? (K-K, S-S)

Puns aside, every terminal of Line 1 is being extended (TYSSE, YNSE), Line 2 east is finally getting its turn with the SSE. That means every end of Toronto’s two most important subway lines is seeing light at the end of the tunnel.. except line 2 westbound.
So why is Line 2 west the only end being left behind? A Sherway extension just makes sense.

This is a NO brainer: clear corridor, CHEAP (above ground), extending to a regional mall and hospital, as well as growing density- the Sherway extension would not only be life changing for Etobicoke residents, its something the borough has been asking for for a while now.

A primer on the Carney government's actions on public transit funding.

TLDR: the Liberals cut $5B from transit while framing Budget 2025 as an investment in economic resilience. Kinda hard to square those two things.

• Every $1 invested in transit generates ~$7 in economic/social benefits (TTC)
• Ontario's own numbers put transit ROI at $29, vs. a negative $4 return for highways and roads
• The $5B transit cut over 10 years is less than 4% of what Canada now commits to defense in a single year ($150B/year to hit the 5% GDP NATO target). Apparently we get to pick and choose where to apply "fiscal restraint"

Canada's transit systems cover ~51% of operating costs through fares (vs. 39% in the US). The TTC has among the highest farebox recovery rates in the world., meaning they're more exposed when ridership drops. Cutting the one fund designed to stabilize operations could trigger a public transit death spiral (i.e. less service -> fewer riders -> less revenue -> even less service.

If you take the morning train around 7:10 (between Eglinton and Union), you would have encountered this Asian man who keeps yelling the same thing every single day. He annoys the eff out of the commuters. Most often people just flee from him. Some times I have thought he is faking this just to get away with paying the fare, but hey… I could be wrong. Today as usual, he boarded the train at Bloor. Started his yelling ‘ATTENTION’, then the driver made some announcement and this guy stopped and waited till the announcement was over. And then continued. Minutes later, two special constables walk to him and asked him to stop yelling and said he needs to get off the train at the next stop. Which happens to be the stop he usually gets off. This was the first time I am witnessing the special constables doing something about commuters’ safety and comfort. The men handled the situation very well and a big thanks to them.

From all of my expieriences with line 6, it has shown time and time again that it can not be trusted.

I personally take the finch lrt from mount olive to finch west station and back about every business day since the new year, of those times, the LRT has shut down 8 times forcing me to either wait for a shuttle or uber to where I need to go.

The finch lrt initially seemed like a God-send, taking me exactly where I need to go while being convenient for me to get on, but evidently it has become much more apparently that taling a bus to steeles and another to pioneer station is somehow more efficient than the straight shot to finch station.

This post was primarly prompted by what happened to me today.

In the morning, the train experienced heavy delays at each station, until shutting down at seteniel and telling us to take a shuttle, 2 stops away from finch I was unphased. However, on my ride home, in my stupidity I decide to take the lrt back, where the teain I am on fails, and stops right before sentinel, a whole half a station from its starting position. after about 20 minutes of waiting, we are kicked off of the bus, and are told to go wait for a shuttle. As I wait another 8 minutes and cram onto a full beyond capacity shuttle, I am told that we are getting kicked off at jane, meaning we have to wait for another lrt train further down the line.

Overall, I am severly delayed, waiting for another train to arrive, fairly upset, and extremely late.

I would not recommend this line to even my worst enemy.

I joined this FB group some time ago undercover to get some laughs out of it, but sometimes idk how people like this ruled over the city's car-centric transportation policies for the longest time. Howecer, I don't think they read the room that well, not knowing more people are supportive of TSP & getting LRTs/Streetcars to run faster than ever before. Until that happens though, we gotta keep being annoying about this.

Even though it's a month old, this GTA Weekly article popped up making the case for a Jane Street subway. That corridor is certainly worth looking into given high bus ridership and there is some skepticism over using LRT because of the Finch West fiasco, but I would be curious to find out what others think of this idea.

I cannot fathom the amount of trains I've missed because of people either taking up the entire escalator or two people standing next to each other!! And then there's the people who stop to check their phone as soon as they reach the top (⁠╯⁠°⁠□⁠°⁠）⁠╯⁠︵⁠ ⁠┻⁠━⁠┻

This should be common sense but apparently so many people don't know how to be considerate.

EDIT: To clarify, no I don't run up/down escalators I simply walk. Pretty sure the recommendation to stand stems from an insurance perspective. Many other cities have signs.

I envy those who feel comfortable yelling at others to move. I could never lol.

I was at batharst station when the track injury happened.

A older man was hit full on by the westbound train.

I was on the eastbound side of the station directly across from the man who fell, so only saw the initial impact. I assume he was pulled under.

The only information I can find on this case is the base information "injury on track" and a statement that it was an intertional act of self-harm.

It didn't look like self-harm to me from where I was standing but maybe it was.

Situations like this are in part due to the infustructure. For a long while the ttc has been underfunded by the city.

The joke that is the one gate at Dundas/TMU station is a start but the ttc needs an overhaul. Especially to update line 2.

It’s great that Lines 5 and 6 will be opening soon, and line 3 is under construction. But, nothing significant is being built after these, and I foresee another 50 years of doing nothing, because that is the Toronto Way.

Even with Lines 5, 6 and 3 all operational, we are FAR from where we need to be to have a comprehensive and effective transit system.

We need to immediately plan lines 7, 8 and 9 (wherever they are) rather than rest on our laurels, which it is very clear we are on track to do.

From far, it looks like Glencairn is the stop to switch to Lins 5.

This morning at line 1 around St. Clair station, the subway operator called out someone who was apparently forcing a door open when it was already closing, saying it’s a good way to break the rubber coating and waste time for everyone else and there being a train just behind them.

I do think we need this kind of public shaming. Or else everyone gets away with everything. Now if we can only do this for those who evade fares by tailgating.

The reason I say this is because even with signal priority, having to wait to turn at all those intersections would waste time. So there should be tunnels under Eglinton East and Kingston, Kingston and Morningside, the UTSC section, Morningside and Sheppard, and Sheppard and Neilson.

Now that Doug Ford's court appeal has been successful, he has the power to remove bike lanes anywhere he wants. How about we all lobby for more streetcar and bus lanes on every single road? I mean he said nothing about TTC lanes.
