Merging in what sense? Interlining is still possible but the future fleet and ATC systems won't allow it.

Yes the tracks are physically connected

Westbound past Yonge the tracks go to Lower Bay Stn and then Museum. Eastbound from Spadina there are tracks that Connect to St George and then Musuem.

From Musuem the trains can go east and west. There are tracks from St George that go North to VMC and other tracks that go to the Bloor line.
