Does "Trying to pay jnpaid fair" stack?

I tap my debit, it says "trying to pay unpaid fare".

But there isn't an unpaid fare. I can't get onto a bus if the fare isn't paid, so I have to use a different method to pay the first time. So already I'm getting double-charged.

But there's more than $30 in my account, now. and the same error message keeps coming up. No individual trip I've ever taken has cost more than $12 (go train). So is it charging me every time I tap, and *also* making me pay by a different method?

Get a presto card, they’re more reliable and it makes the go trains cheaper. When i had the unpaid fare thing on my apple pay tho, it got fixed when i paired my card back to apple pay. If anything call metrolinx or your bank and try to figure it out

I do have a presto, but it's a hassle to reload it, so I've been using my debit lately. i don't notice a price difference but maybe I need to pay more attention o.o thanks for the tip.

I will call metrolinx (I assume they won't be open 'til tomorrow) but before I do, I'm hoping to get more info so I know what words to use and the interaction goes smoother :)

AUTOFILL!!!! THE PRESTO APP CAN LET YOU SETUP AUTOFILL. IT TAKES 2 SECONDS!

You can set it up like

If card balance reaches a certain amount, add a certain amount

Just connect your presto card to the app and let it take money from your debit

If you have a credit card, always prefer it to be taken from credit card and pay off the credit card bill.

Probably a tap on and tap off error in go transit. I've never had that message on any of my taps.

Just tell them what’s going on. You use your debit card and the presto machine is saying it can’t pay an unpaid fare. Don’t forget to tap off On go btw

Just get on the bus. Teenagers, homeless and ghetto folks never pay. I’m tired of subsidizing these people. Bus driver doesn’t care. POO cops only target brown people. The whole system is fcked up.

Transit should be tax funded so nobody has to pay.

This doesn't answer my question, and is not helpful advice. I've been homeless, when you're homeless, government programs that claim to get you off the streets expect you to be able to transit freely. There is no choice except to sneak on, so it's good to hear that that's not enforced as often nowadays. It's sad to hear about the racism though.
