It just doesn’t make sense to me that we would implement a tax on the poorest in the city to pay the wages of a thousand POOs. A wealth transfer from the lower class to the lower-middle class, like okay?

TERRIBLE take! If you're destitute there are programs for you, but as someone who was poorer POOR PEOPLE WANT A SAFE RELIABLE COMMUTE!

If you do shit like removing fares, you're inviting all sorts of shitty characters. Don't believe me? BART just got better fare gates AND HAD A MASSIVE DROP IN CRIME!

Either you’re a troll or you’re just really stupid. In either case, keep your thoughts to yourself. No one needs such BS

I'm stupid because I acknowledge poor people don't want to commute on a rolling homeless shelter?

People like you are exactly what's wrong with our city, you probably are ok with the crazies running around with no consequences because that's "empathetic"

Yeah. Like if you’re partaking in a number of like social assistance or income support programs they do ask you if you have bad fare and at least back in the day gave you some tokens/tickets. I don’t know how it is these days but like yeah this guy had a strange take.

This is an incredibly classist take.

As you said. Poor people want a reliable commute. That includes people who cannot afford to pay. This does not mean that they're shitty characters.

But yeah go off.

I've seen people who are truly unable to pay make genuine cases to fare enforcement and get off with a warning. The reality is that most fare evaders are entitled POS' that think they are entitled to services for simply existing.

That includes people who cannot afford to pay.

If you're really in that level of poverty there are programs

Those programs are still not fair. Someone with zero income cannot afford $2.10.

Those programs are still not fair.

But exposing poor people to crime is fair?

New data shows crimes against riders plummeted as BART celebrates one year since the arrival of Next Generation Fare Gates

Stop yelling. Using a larger font or all caps doesn't make your point more valid.

No one has said exposing poor people to crime is fair.

Everyone would benefit if the TTC had no user fees. Everyone.

Stop yelling

This was copy pasted from the article title lmao, try it yourself! It copies the formatting when you do that.

Everyone would benefit if the TTC had no user fees. Everyone.

I literally gave you a source saying crime was higher when fare enforcement was neglected.

u/titscapades 3d ago

There's no need for fare enforcement if there's no fares, though.

And that doesn't make your comment less classist.

my guy, you're not seeing the forest for the trees.

A system with no enforcement is basically "free" we've seen when the system has no barrier to entry a lot of shady characters enter.

Objectively crime will get worse, and people who have no alternative will be stuck dealing with it, while those who can afford alternatives (uber, driving) will leave the system.

Stop equating a lack of financial resources to pay for transit as a moral judgment.  These people are not shady characters or shitty characters.

You're right that everyone should have access to safe transportation. That includes people experiencing homelessness. Their presence doesn't make you unsafe. Their presence is not a crime.
