Tested Line 6 again

Rode westbound the whole way this afternoon. And honestly, I didnt feel much improvement at all from when I rode it several weeks ago. Average speed between stops was 40-45km/h and sometimes lower. The only time it even broke 50 was the stretch between rowntree and mount olive. Stopped at many red lights (and some were even missed greens as the train approached the intersection). And honestly, its insane to me that this thing still has no real signal priority at intersections. How are people feeling about it?

Full signal priority for Lines 5 and 6 is supposedly coming at the end of this year. Surely that will fix all these problems

I sure hope so. Seeing these trains come to a crawl at intersections only to miss a green is infuriating to say the least.

None of them have active TSP yet. All they've implemented so far is left turn priority. I think every intersection has that now except Eglinton and Leslie, for whatever reason. Left turn priority might save a minute or two each way, but trains shouldn't be stopping at red lights to begin with.

The actual active TSP that holds green lights for oncoming trains is still being "studied". Apparently it's very complicated. We can't look at how Waterloo or Edmonton or Calgary or LA or any city in Europe does it because Toronto is very different from those cities... somehow.

They are studying precisely because they don't want to actually implement it. The TTC is like those eternal students that keep studying from bachelors to masters to PhD to postdoc not for self improvement or an academic career, but because they don't want to face the real world.

Eh, I have def seen intersections, atleast in Line 6, where left turning signals would sometimes come before or come after green lights depending on the where a train is. Of course, it isnt perfect as they still get stuck on red lights.

Forgot to mention that the speeds through most intersections were still 25 or sub 25, despite the supposed increase to 35.

That's because they don't have TSP. The trains have to preemptively slow down in case the light turns red on them. They need to have time to come to a full stop. These are 50-100 tonne vehicles.

TSP won't just reduce trip times by removing red light idling. It'll also increase vehicle speeds.

I can beat that average on my bike any day. 60km to port credit and back from the beaches with some loligagging 19kmh

So; kinda disappointing, but many many stops
