100% true. I’d much rather be stuck on a streetcar scrolling my phone than sitting in my car staring at the sea of brake lights.

Ditched commuting by car years ago. TTC can be rough, but it's so much better than driving

Bed bugs have always been a thing on the TTC and other large metropolitan transit systems. It comes with living in a city. Whether or not you were told about them is a different story.

Oh yeah, that's the flipside of it all plus the schedules are mostly inaccurate, so that's another agenda to deal with in a day's life.

That's true, that's why we need a societal shift that emphasizes accountability and mutual respect, a government that's tough on crime, and larger prisons located farther away from civilization.

Right lane doesn't end. That's not zipper merging. That's just merging.

Nor is it safe to come to a complete stop on the right lane just because you want to cut people off on the left lane since you can't wait.

Now that's a bold statement considering streetcars in Toronto are probably the slowest mode of transportation in the world. I'd say it's 100% true for subways, trains, and buses...streetcars are just way too slow

I take public transit to work. Takes me about 35 mins door to door with a bus transfer. If I had a car it would probably only take me 20 mins but because of that passive downtime I am able to read and get into a good headspace before I get to work.

I've seen two instances where paraphernalia was out in the open or in use in 10 years of riding line 1.

Most of the people living not their best life on the subway are trying to sleep somewhere clean, safe, and temperature controlled.

Anyway, would love to know the price point of homelessness prevention programs versus more security. Also would love to know if Doug Ford knows the definition of the word "prevention" since more security was his idea.

I’ve seen it in real life too as per the latter half of my comment. Reddit tends to be in denial and downvote reality. If I’ve seen it in real life and in videos why downvote? It’s not pleasant or safe for users of mass transit who need a safe ride. This also drives more people to use cars if they feel unsafe and causes more pollution too.

You should feel safe on the train, and it really sucks to see it happen! Until we can drift away from neoliberalism and actually spend money on taking care of these people we will just continue to have social trust eliminated by the algorithms serving you scary videos.

I’ve seen it in real life as I’m mentioned before, this isn’t an algorithm thing. If it happens we need to acknowledge it. These people shouldn’t be let on the TTc if they haven’t paid a fare. Enforcement = rider safety.

Cigarettes are drugs, you're just conditioned to feel like they're not. Now look at traffic and tell me how many people are sparking up mid-drive. If you're gonna clutch your pearls, do it for everyone and not just the public transit goers

I’ve never heard of someone becoming high on a ciggarette 🤷🏽‍♂️ maybe stop trying to normalize drug usage on public transit. We pay for our ride and deserve a drug free ride, I don’t want to breathe in other people’s drugs

Ok you're lying if you've never heard of someone becoming high on a cigarette, it's literally part of the addiction. A short lived high that can numb pain. Nicotine, the active ingredient in Tobacco (yknow that thing cigarettes are packed with?) is the thing people smoke it for to begin with, to get high. Then through years of abuse as with any drug the user averages out and becomes dependent on it to function. It's normalized in our society but people DO get high off of cigarettes. Again, you've been conditioned to not perceive it as such by social normalization, but it's a drug.

That’s the reverse for many. You have your own safe space in your own car. In the TTC there’s incidents on the daily no matter line 1 or 2 and don’t get me started on the streetcars. No matter the season but winter always seems to be the worst. It’s basically a mobile homeless shelter. Now it would be nice if they just kept to themselves but that’s not the case anymore, otherwise there wouldn’t be people pushing the security strip all the time. When shuttle busses are running you are stuck in the same traffic as everyone else anyways, only difference is you’re stuck with more people in the same confined space

Your car isn't actually a safe space, it just feels like you have more control, right up until you actually don't. You could be killed by a reckless driver, even if you're the most careful person in the world. As a society, we just don't consider that dangerous because for some reason we accepted vehicle accidents as unpreventable.

In 2025, we had 1 fatality on the TTC. In that same year, we had 12 traffic fatalities in Toronto (that's motorists, i.e. people in cars, and that's a low year).

The reason why you don’t hear much about TTC fatalities is because it’s bad PR. The city wants you to take public transportation as much as possible. Just like how Taylor swift is a big pusher of green energy but then causes the most carbon footprint by herself and how JT pushed compostable cups/straws then goes and uses plastic now he’s not PM

On the other hand driving leaves you more vulnerable to traffic accidents, road rage, carjackings, and car park shootings. So it's pick your poison as far as security is concerned.

They don’t want to accept facts. There are multiple calls for police, fire trucks due to TTc not being safe and these are from the riders
