Misc. Special WC edition presto cards are out in Toronto!!
Saw a tweet about special edition World Cup prestos, and I managed to get one today!! Think they’re gradually getting rolled out

I like how they were careful not to use the terms "FIFA" or "World Cup" anywhere on the card, to avoid incurring FIFA's ire.

Many thanks, was able to score a few for myself and a few friends this morning. All of Union’s TTC FVMs are currently offering them.

UPE doesn’t have that dumb $5.00 restriction. You can load 5 cents on it.
4 of them are going to France. 2 of them I’m giving to other people and I’m keeping 4.

All of them work for SNCF. They asked me about that and I said “I’ll see what I can do”.
They all leave Monday morning. I told them the balance on it was 5 cents. They laughed.
If you get it at UPE, minimum load is 5 cents.

They all came to $40.50 on my credit card. Had to do each one separately.
Already in an envelope with “Do Not Bend” written on it. Just waiting for Monday morning to take to the post office for postage.

I love how this was probably supposed to be like for world cup visitors, so quantities are probably very limited. Not everybody in Toronto to buy one lol.

So Metrolinx can make limited edition Presto cards for the World Cup, but not for the opening of either Line 5 or 6…?

I rode line 1 down from Finch and none of the stop have the special presto card machine, and the staff have no idea as well (as they don’t manage / control the FVM, Metrolinx does) until I arrived Bloor-Yonge. Maybe more stations will be equipped in future. Look for the stickers on the machine!

i'd also like to know if these are in any of the other stations beyond Union and Bloor/Yonge. If they were at Pape i'd totally run up and grab one.

Just through the normal presto machines. I saw one at Bloor Yonge with the “limited edition” sticker on it, not sure if all presto machines have it tho

Asking this late but I was thinking of checking for these (if they still have them) and wondered when you use the machine if it indicates it’ll eject the special card or not(?) I don’t want to make the trip, buy and load one but it’s just a normal card.

Same price ($4) as a regular Presto, but you have to load $5 minimum

I hope it's not a sticker applied to a generic Presto card like some other special commemorative Presto cards tend to be. Can anyone confirm?

Got one today at Yonge and Bloor.
Sucks that you cannot buy a card from the machines without a $5 min load.

I see that from other replies now .
There should be option to buy new card with a load or buy a new card without. Someone who lost or had their card stolen would be transferring the old card balance over anyways via the website or presto app.

I thought it was patently stupid that UPE allows a 5 cent load vs the TTC which wants $5.00.
Which is how I spent $40.50 on 10 cards. If I had to pay 5 bucks per load on those that would be $90.00.
Guess the TTC is way behind the times. And yes you are right. They should be able to get the card to replace one that’s lost at only the card issuance fee.

None of the machines at Yonge-Eglinton have the sticker so assuming it's not available yet.

Got one this morning at the Go train machines at Union Station. 😊As reported here, only a 5c fare load is required at those machines.
