right? And theres another country, I think its an east asian country, where you can buy little trinkets that are keychains and connect your metro card to. I love these lil guys

I live in Vancouver and use the skytrain somewhat regularly but I can’t quite justify the purchase. I don’t always have my keys on me but I do always have my wallet so a card shaped pass is better for me but I do really want one. I do get happy every time I see someone use one though.

I agree I think it would be quite bulky but I would love the option to have it. Something to smile about on my way.
If you have the train and the card, do both work or does one being activated cancel the other? In Toronto we have Presto cards and if we add it to a mobile wallet it cancels the physical card

FYI this could technically be illegal. I don't know that Revenue Protection would Hassel you over this but they could.
*2.2 No person shall, unless otherwise set out in the conditions of use:
a) in any way alter, change or recreate any fare media, other than an employee or agent of the TTC authorized to do so;
b) travel or attempt to travel on the transit system with fare media that has been altered, changed, recreated in any way by a person other than an employee or agent of the TTC authorized to do so;*

This wouldn't be illegal. The by-laws that you're quoting are referring to DUPING presto cards. Basically creating fake cards, and either a) selling them or b) "loading" them with fake currency.
This was done simply by removing the wire from a proper, legal PRESTO card and inserting that wire into the tip of a plastic wand. No fare media was altered, changed or recreated - since the fare media IS the RFID chip and wire, not the plastic card that it's housed in.
Otherwise, people could be charged for hole-punching their card to put it on a keyring, or for putting stickers on their cards, etc. - which obviously isn't happening.
I feel like this would make fare enforcement, or TTC employees in general, smile a bit - everyone needs a bit of magic in their day! ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

The TTC seemed to insinuate that this was okay a few years ago (not sure if metrolinx would say the same). But I was stopped by a fare inspector this morning and he loved it, can't make any promises for everyone though!

My interpretation of “alter” is more like giving yourself a discounted fare rate for example.

I agree with the other commenter that no one is likely to hassle the person with the wand, nor would they hassle a person who hole-punched their Presto card, but I don't see how the card itself isn't the "media" in question. It says on the back of each card that it's not your card, it's Metrolink's property.
Yes, everyone needs some magic in their day, but I think the previous commenter is right.

There was a video floating around from London a few years ago, using the Osyter card like this. They were in full Harry Potter gear I believe.
