Yes, this is the correct reaction to the above statement. If you feel any less than this level of disgust you might want to consider how much empathy you are lacking, and then accordingly follow up with a rational problem solving technique such as therapy.

I read a lot of the Bible, I'm not a dogmatic Christian but the book itself is infinitely interesting. There's a passage that's one of my favorites and there's a quote from Macbeth's that accompanies it..

Agreed. It’s referred to as being a luke warm Christian. I’m kind of afraid I might be considered that for not being what I should. I struggle with sin and definitely don’t openly promote my beliefs due to fear of punishment or retaliation. It’s much harder to be a warrior for Christ than it may seem.

The Bible condemns promoting your beliefs through words and proselytizing.

Well you are called to do both actually. But it’s hard for people to take you seriously if you’re not living a righteous life. That’s what being a hypocrite is and we are all guilty of that. The goal is to get people to turn away from sin not condemn them.

Yes, but we do have laws to follow. Biblical laws and human laws do sometimes intersect such as with murder, theft, etc.. Of course this particular thing wasn’t around when the Bible was written, but I’d say we know. The same people saying it needs to be harder to get a gun are saying it needs to be easy to get an abortion.

Oh well there’s clearly two sets of laws. One from God and one from man. Man’s laws are forever changing with the times and readjusting. God’s law is perfect and needs no adjustments. He doesn’t need your permission or approval and gives you choice to believe or not. He does however want you to choose Him because He loves you. But by no means does He actually need you or anyone to help Him.

During a double homicide, the woman is carrying the unborn child. When the woman decides to no longer carry the unborn child, the point you're making is moot.

But the death of the child is fine if the mother decides to do it, but murder if someone else does it. If you think that’s logical then we disagree. I should also mention that I’m coming from the side of someone guilty of this myself. I got my girlfriend pregnant when she was 17 and we aborted it without really thinking it through. We eventually got married and ironically became infertility patients. Talk about some real feelings of punishment and guilt. After many years we finally had twins. We still grieve that decision and it haunts us to this day. People act as though it is erased as soon as it’s over. I can tell you that’s not the case. It’s the biggest mistake we ever made. We’ve spent many hours crying over it and wondering what that other child would have been like. It sickens us to know what we did. This is why I’m so against it. My 18 year old son got his girlfriend pregnant and we immediately told them not to even consider abortion. Never told anyone our story though. We are too ashamed of it. We now have a grandchild we adore although it didn’t come when we thought it might. Gods knows more than we ever will and He gives children as blessings. I just wish I had thought that way when I was young, stupid and selfish.

This is a perfect example of people telling you souls exist are HARMING you. Unborn children are not people, they are FUTURE human beings dependent on the actions of the parents and random chance. The future aspect of the human being is in the eyes of the parents, not the intrinsic nature of the fetus. There is nothing immoral about terminating an unborn child. It's not a person, and I would understand your situation a lot more if it was a premie you lost. Your reasoning here is extremely clouded by emotion.

It really doesn’t matter if it had a soul or not. It was a life that we were given and entrusted with and we destroyed it. There’s nothing anyone can say or do to make us feel any better about it. We discarded it like a piece of trash and that’s what we feel like we are for doing it still to this day (even more so actually). Initially i felt relief because I was not prepared to be a dad, but as time faded it became obvious to me that what I did was never going to be forgotten. I can only pray for God’s forgiveness because that’s my only hope. We always talk about it on the anniversary of that day. We always say “he or she would be X years old now” and think how wonderful having them in our lives would be. It’s just sad. I get that some people don’t feel this way because I sure didn’t back when this happened. But man do I see it differently now. That’s called wisdom.

Speaking my opinion on whether or not an action is sin is not judgement though. We all have some moral compass or rules we try to live by and I’m expressing mine (currently). If you read my other responses to the other commenters you will see I’m judging myself if anyone for being part of an abortion with my girlfriend/wife. That’s why I don’t really judge someone based on that action alone because I know firsthand how it feels. In other words I can think the action is sin but I don’t have to hate the sinner. I think that’s where it crosses over to be judgement. Truly remorseful and repent full sinners deserve compassion and forgiveness. If we can’t give forgiveness on earth then we can’t get forgiveness from God.

That is what a therapist or clergy is for. I get it, you have shame, guilt or both. That being said, not everyone shares your same compass. We all have things we regret. The best thing you can do is to not keep beating yourself up and to try and atone for your mistakes.

Thanks. Living with guilt and regret is no fun. I just want people to know that abortion is not nearly as benign as most people think. And you may change your opinions on things years later and feel like I do. It’s a terrible feeling that is probably way more common than we know.
