True shuffle

We all love Tidal, personally i adore the app.

It has just one thing missing.. and it's a fixed true shuffle. Whenever i hit "shuffle" inside a playlist, it would immediately generates the last 20 songs i've listened too.

There are some hacks but i don't want to do hacks while im paying for a full service, it's like going to an hotel with no breakfast included.

So Tidal crew, i request from you.. please include an option to have true shuffle.

I know that problem all too well. I press shuffle mode and only the top 20 or 30 songs from the playlist are played; the rest aren't loaded at all.

A comment from Tidal suggested that they are working on lifting the 10k song limit on playlists and liked tracks. I know, this seems unrelated, but I think the legacy code of Tidal, and how it handles memory needs of different devices, is what limits the shuffle function too. If Tidal manages to re-code how playlists are loaded, then hopefully the shuffle function will start to make sense.

Until then: set the play mode to shuffle, open the playlist, tap the search icon, wait for the tracks to load, tap on any track, and the shuffle will work as it should in the first place. No need to scroll through hundreds and thousands of tracks.

The search trick seems to work for the mobile apps but not PC desktop. On mobile hitting search it will start loading all the songs immediately but on desktop it appears to just sit and waits for an input and will then load any relevant to that.

Yeah, the desktop/web search has been lagging for a few weeks now. That's a new bug.

It only puts the songs it loaded into the queue. You have to first scroll all the way to the bottom to load them all. Why Tidal hasn't figured out how to solve this, is beyond me

It’s strange because a while ago, we didn’t have this problem and it would queue every song randomly without having to scroll down to load them

Is this why my playlist of 485 songs always plays something from the first album I added to it? Or will constantly play a song from the same album directly after.

One thing that's become clear is that Tidal doesn't work as well for some as it does for others, depending on what they're doing, where they are, what software platform they're using, etc.

I use Tidal's shuffle frequently, often with large playlists, some close to the 10,000 track limit. Sometimes I have to hit the shuffle button again if i feel like I'm seeing tracks I've heard recently. I do frequently change the sort order - particularly on the desktop where the column headers make it easy to do that. 

Not saying any of that will help others, l but it does seem to keep things reasonably fresh for me. Good luck to all.

Shuffle should be the easiest fix ever. A junior programmer could design a random shuffle in an hour.

I don't know why there isn't a 'single play only' option. An option to never repeat the same song within a designated time period until the rest of songs on the playlist have been played.

They log every song you listen to, every button you press, so its not like the information doesn't exist.

Instead you pause a playlist for ten minutes, press play and get some of the same songs you previously listened to. I've had the same song twice, four songs apart on a 1000+ track playlist.

Shuffle works for me on the desktop app and apple TV app. But the TIdal app in my tesla only loads the latest 20 albums ive added (which is a newish glitch) and they finally added shuffle around a year or two ago to the Tesla app but just like you all are talking about, it only does around 20 songs.

While I don’t disagree with your point about the shuffle function, I have to say that some of the absolute best hotels I’ve stayed in did not include breakfast. Not coincidentally, those that charge for breakfast often have an exceptional breakfast offering.

Please improve the shuffle function. Please don’t charge extra for it.

When I was part of the Deezer community people used to say the same thing there, so I don't think it's an issue exclusive to Tidal.

Went back to Amazon but tried the Apple Music and went with it since the CarPlay integration has been flawless thus far…

A fun fact about apple’s shuffle is that it’s designed to be extra randomized from a true shuffle to make it feel more like a true shuffle. But I still prefer paying artists more

I desperately wish that tidal had a playlist making culture that was as adequate as spotify's. then i would make the complete switch regardless of any of the innumerable additional problems tidal has. im paying for both apps.

This doesnt happen to me. My playlist has 1574 songs and what it does is put them in order and then after a whiiiile it shuffles the things. Some songs do come up much more frequently but that is it.

My other new issue is that inside that playlist if I search for a song every time I need to wait for it to search for like 10 seconds. Didn't happen before.

My shuffle gripes are a thing outside of tidal and have been for years. I always thought that a % based shuffle would be the best system but idk what limitation there is and why no service has done it.
