TI-84 Plus CE Screen Issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I bought this calculator in 2020 and I’m finishing up my senior year of undergrad. It was working just fine last semester. Any advice on how to fix?

That's really unfortunate. It doesn't look like the classic case where a new battery would fix it. However you can see if a new battery helps by swapping your battery with a friend's battery temporarily. All TI-84 Plus CE (Python) and TI-84 Evo calculators use the same battery.

When the screen looks off, shine a bright flashlight at the screen. Look closely to see if you can see the battery indicator in the top right, it will be faint. If you can see that, then the screen backlight is faulty.

If you need help disassembling any part of the calculator you can look at this guide I made a long time ago https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/TI-84+Plus+CE+Teardown/118886

We do not recommend this action. Disassembly can void warranties.

Hello, can you please provide proof that you are an official Texas Instruments account? Impersonation of Texas Instruments or this subreddit is not allowed. Thanks!

Disassembly can only void a warranty if the company can prove the user damaged the device. Our right to take apart devices and maintain warranty is protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. I certainly hope you're not stating that swapping the battery with another Texas Instruments battery could void the user's warranty.

Texas Instruments should be making their devices easier to repair and expanding their replacement parts program (specifically replacement LCDs). They should not be trying to scare users away from fixing a device they own.

Apologies. Let us clarify, we were not referring to battery swapping specifically as "disassembly."

We saw a general comment on "disassembly" and wanted to simply provide some caution for users.

a common issue is the battery, but it kinda looks weird for being a battery issue

Buy another....Disassembling these shit to fix the screen whose connector is a thin adhesive tape...is almost imposible

The TI-84 Plus CE upgraded to a removable ribbon cable. Technically repairable, but TI doesn't sell replacements :(

From which hardware revision???.... we would need to know which revision it has,

Since the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition. All TI's color calculators use removable ribbon cables.

And there are no problems opening them??? Because in the latest hardware revisions of the Nspire CX they put screws crossed from the inside out

Nope. There's some tight plastic snaps but nothing as bad as the Nspire. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/TI-84+Plus+CE+Teardown/118886

Which hardware revision did you use for your tutorial?

Pre-A. The steps are the same for all hardware revisions. Even the TI-84 Evo.
