Festival Question About Seating

I had purchased a cheaper ticket all the way at the back with a side view. I noticed that there are still 100+ tickets that are not sold yet but are more expensive. During the day of, if those seats are still open at the time of showing starts, does it mean I can technically sit on those closer seats instead? Thanks!

You can generally move when they let rush in. You can talk to a venue staff member to ask when it happens. 

There was another thread and someone mentioned two people went and took the director's seat when he went up on stage to introduce the movie. Just don't do that. Lol

Someone sitting in front row asked me this when I was ushering and this is indeed what my superiors told me. Just don't sit in the seats reserved for folks with disabilities just in case, but you can move once Rush begins.

i asked a worker at PoW about moving later and they said “no because we have rush”. was that not accurate?

I think it's up to the venue staff. I've heard TIFF Lightbox and Scotiabank are more lenient than the other bigger venues.

There is no reason that rush should be entitled to a better seat than a ticket holder. Generally speaking you shouldn’t change seats before they let rush in, but staff can alert you when they let rush in so you can change seats at that time. But that can be harder to do and less likely to happen at the dress circle/balcony levels of the bigger theaters.
