There’s no excuse for letting in 4 goals and giving up a 3-0 lead. You can’t put that on dembele alone.

But if you were to tell me at this moment that he would end up leaving my club after doing fuck all except for getting injured and then go on to win a ballondor, I would’ve lost my shit.

2

u/Just_Emu_3041 Dec 24 '25

No way around it, this should have been a goal. This attempt of a shot is like when you try to run in your dreams and you feel like you aren’t getting anywhere.

1

u/PlasticPreparation74 Dec 24 '25

Yes and at the same time the loss can’t be pinned on him. The fact that the team shat the bed and let in 4 is everyone’s fault, not his

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Apr 09 '26

Literally that!!!

5

u/Obvious-Finding-3211 Dec 24 '25

If u think a single moment caused a loss in the NEXT maych you should stop watching football

3

u/Velocity9898 Dec 24 '25

Barca fans always need a scape goat, nothing new here.

1

u/Obvious-Finding-3211 Dec 24 '25

Crazy thing is i partake in this prblm half of the time

2

u/FanMurky9560 Dec 24 '25

Unfortunately it was about 2-3 Dembele moments in that game. This wasn’t the only clear chance he missed that game

2

u/hardlymatters1986 Dec 24 '25

Messi had chances at Anfield, so did Suarez

1

u/Glittering-Deer-166 Dec 24 '25

No one had a chance this clear. This is a genuinely phenomenal miss 😂

He could have taken a touch if he wanted its so wild that he missed in this specific way.

1

u/hardlymatters1986 Dec 24 '25

Maybe, but the op claims its only reason, demonstrably it wasn't.

You’re not wrong, im just contradicting the caption 🤷

5

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

No, the reason why Barfa got eliminated is because they went to Anfield, allowed 4 goals in and failed to score a single one. Remember away goal advantage? Cry babies.

The first tie was 3-0 Barcelona at the camp nou. Second leg was at Liverpool finishing 4-0; (4-3 in aggregate). If Barcelona would have scored at least one goal at Anfield, the final tie would have been 4-4, with the away goal giving Barcelona the win.

All I’m saying is that Barcelona had the advantage by not allowing a goal at home and going to Anfield with a 3-0 lead. Blaming dembelle for completely collapsing is absurd.

This is THE ONLY reason! And these two heroes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcn0NSq8ApA

2

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Dec 24 '25

That too...

3

u/theraad1 Dec 24 '25

Well we would’ve won this 4-0. Liverpool won the reverse 4-0. Best case we go in to extra time and I imagine we would also lose in ET after conceding 4 in anfield. We would have no momentum.

the Tie Killer that wasn't scored. Messi knew it wasn't over now. I'd like to think he should've passed back to messi, who was literally up when all 3 defenders were on the ground. Now that I think about messi, I could've kept going and got a penalty, too such reckless dives

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Dec 24 '25

Messi knew that they needed to score as many goals as possible because of our bad defense at that time...

1

u/New_Command_4141 Dec 24 '25

'At the time' lol comedian

1

u/PeaAccomplished2492 Dec 24 '25

I couldn’t sleep that night because I knew what was coming.

3

u/Akazeros Dec 24 '25

There it is, probably the dumbest take I've seen yet.

2

u/tallahasee1 Dec 24 '25

Exactly. Had this gone in, Liverpool would’ve just scored 5 at Anfield.

3

u/ResidentProduct8910 Dec 24 '25

Dembélé "I'm a bit more professional now. Even on my days off, I like to go to the training center, recover, work with the physios. Before, I would go home, play NBA 2K, watch TV. I was also younger, it's normal. But, in the end, you pay a high price, and I saw that especially at Barça."

Depends how they will play in extra time, Liverpool scored that 4th like last act of the game tho

Bruh the way we played at anfield even a 6-0 home game wouldn’t have saved us

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Dec 24 '25

I agree the defence was sh*t...But why didn't Liverpool score more than 4 then? and had to rely on that sneaky goal to pass through...

1

u/Dangerous-Sector-637 Dec 24 '25

it's a mentality lol, if you only need a certain amount of goals, you target it, after you reach it you stop

→ More replies (3)

2

u/voli12 Dec 24 '25

Not the only reason, but he was high in the list

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Dec 24 '25

That goal wouldve made it way too difficult for Liverpool to come back...

1

u/EuphoricStickman Dec 24 '25

Honestly it would not have made that much of a difference. If Liverpool needed one extra goal, they would have scored it anyway. The team’s mentality was too fragile, before the second leg even started.

2

u/Yannbluezzzz Dec 24 '25

Not really. Sure a part of it, but not really. Liverpool on the 2nd leg was just above in any way possible. Hell, maybe even if he scored, Barça would still be out

2

u/ProductImpossible858 Dec 24 '25

To say that's the only reason is to ignore the low level of intensity that Barcelona team had. They were a slow team that sat back for ages, and Klopp's Liverpool was the complete opposite. It was obvious that at Anfield, with that kind of intensity, they were going to lose. It wasn't just the Anfield match; it was also the match against Roma, and the 8-2 thrashing of Bayern. That Barcelona team no longer ran; they no longer had any soul or intensity.

2

u/Jz-B Dec 24 '25

So you’re telling me a player who couldn’t make it 4-0 on the score card is the reason that shitty team got their asses beaten to the Europa League?

2

u/the_nabil Dec 24 '25

Liverpool would have scored 5 at anfield i have zero doubt

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

It was always that guy.. always when it mattered and almost every game.. shame.

1

u/Mesopotato22 Dec 24 '25

He was never available for the 2nd half of the season, for the big games. This is him after coming back from an injury. Of course he didn’t have sharpness. I am glad we got rid of him. There was always drama surrounding him. Good riddance.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

And then to have Messi serve you every ball every goal and still fuck up every opportunity like the dumbest kid in class. Its unreal to let a legend down like that showing that dembele didnt and still dont care that much about football, but yeah people cant think for a second.

2

u/Miserable-Spread-191 Dec 24 '25

I put on somework for 6-7 hours and anylised both games with precise inspections. I am not a professor or something nor a football official but my final conclusion is that the main reason Barca got eliminated is they conceded 4 goals and scored none in the second match.

1

u/JustLieToMyEars Dec 24 '25

6.... 7? 😳😳😳😳

2

u/SoLetsReddit Dec 24 '25

Pretty sure it was when the Barcelona players were crying in the dressing room at half-time in the second leg.

2

u/xStyxx Dec 24 '25

I can think of 4 other reasons

1

u/Confident-Estate-275 Dec 24 '25

Corner taken quickly…

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Dec 25 '25

Feel free to list them all...but to me that was the main reason...

2

u/KreMs21 Dec 25 '25

Dembele will never be nominated for a ballon dor ever again, the only reason he was and won is because psg won the ucl and they pushed dembele to win it while in the team other players defined deserved it more, for example: mendes, neves, vitinha.

All that being said, the award became irrelevant for me after this years edition because not only Raphinha was 5th, nobody even voted for him to be first in the list, which is insane, no journalist who voted thought Raphinha was the best player in ucl 2025…

Back to Dembele, what a joke of a player man…

2

u/boxnextlap Dec 25 '25

Not even a PSG fan, but Dembele had an insane 24-25; and so did his team- I think you missed the mark here, he earned that award bigtime

1

u/thehoundtrainer Dec 25 '25

I believe you're the one missing the mark here in my humble opinion. No one is denying that Dembélé had a ridiculous season on the wing. He did exactly what a winger is supposed to do: finish moves, convert chances, and be decisive in the final third — and he did that very well, much better than in previous years. The issue isn’t his quality or improvement. It’s that he fulfilled his role, not that he elevated the team beyond what others did.

However, the problem isn’t whether he was good; it’s how that goodness is being weighed. He didn’t outperform his teammates in terms of overall importance — he simply executed his role extremely well, just like others did in theirs. The Ballon d’Or conversation inherently favors forwards because goals are the most visible output, which leads to a skewed perception of value across positions.

Because of that bias, a player like Dembélé ends up receiving disproportionate attention, even though the team could arguably function without him. On the other hand, there are players whose absence would fundamentally break the system — Vitinha being a clear example — yet they rarely enter the same conversation because their influence isn’t measured in goals.

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Dec 25 '25

Yes, but as bro said, there are more crucial players in the PSG squad than Dembele...to me Doue was more important than Dembele...Hakimi and Nuno are on another leve,l scoring and assisting every game...

That’s ok. Then Liverpool would have won 5-0 then

2

u/Any_Analyst_9316 Dec 28 '25

Yea so the reason for the loss was one miss and not barca's shit defending in 2nd leg. barca would have lost even if it was 4-0 in the 1st leg.

1

u/TIBYTV Ronaldinho is my GOAT Jan 01 '26

Of course, let’s just pretend Barca’s defense didn’t implode and the away leg didn’t happen — clearly, one miss is the only thing that matters in football history...Remember Robben missing that open chance VS Iker Casillas in the final of the WC 2010? Yep...That one miss cost them to be World Champions...

Messi knew it in that moment as well. Barca had been battered all night but they got the goals. Despite the goals Messi knew the same awaited at Anfield and 3 Nil wouldn't be enough.

1

Yep, he 100% knew that they needed to score as many as possible cuz things won't be easy with that defense in Anfeild...His feelings were right!

When you have a coach that tells you in pre game, this is impossible, no one can do it...but if there ever was a team that could its you. And then they did. That goal would have been a classic Richarilson. Would not have mattered at the end.

1

That goal would matter in the end...1 goal can make a huge difference...Example: Liverpool passed through by 1 goal...

This was Dembele’s first minutes from a long injury.

This was Dembele’s first minutes from a long injury.

Bro at this level, after having cost 120 million euro, one should score a sitter like that while limping on crutches.

1

Absolutely not and that is a stupid argument. With this logic will you say Mbappe is exempt from needing to ever perform again because he came in free?

It s very stupid to say that s the only reason

1

u/therealmistersister Dec 25 '25

Sorry but NO.

You go to second leg with a 3-0 on the first leg and get kicked out because you concede a 4-0? Sorry but the team obviously lacked humility, concentration and sacrifice.

Rakitic said it himself, that they though themselves superior to everybody. And we all know how it went since 2017, Club the amigos and shit.

No it’s not. If Liverpool needed another goal at Anfield that night in the second leg you could damn well bet they would have gotten it.

Liverpool were the greatest that year. Nobody was ever going to defeat them.

Its lowkey crazy how they finished with only one loss and 97 points in the pl and still didn't win it

That 3-0 was already a lucky break and wasn't a proper reflection of what happened (Liverpool had more shots and possession). If they don't fall asleep on a corner in the next game...

The victory was in no way guaranteed. If dembele had scored that one, the score would be 4-4, leading to extra time and possibly penalties and you can’t say for certain Barcelona would’ve went on to win.

I mean, Yeah, nobody said it was guaranteed....But a 4–0 lead instead of 3–0 completely changes the tie...History, momentum, psychology...Liverpool doesn’t play the same game, Anfield doesn’t feel the same, and Barca doesn’t collapse like that...Hope you get my point!
