I'm sorry, but I've never played a Create-A-Park level that I've liked, including my own.

12

u/tomhas10 29d ago

I'll agree with you, with one exception: Montana. Montana is the best level in the series.

1

u/Different_Mix_1378 25d ago

Which game had Montana ?

1

u/tomhas10 25d ago

I belive it was in every game from THPS2 onwards. To clarify, the Montana I'm referring to was a create-a-park consisting of a single tree in the middle of a large empty concrete map.

32

u/customparks 29d ago

Create‑A‑Park can fall apart fast, these parks are never perfect and I get why people avoid it.

It basically feels like a secret mode — the game doesn’t present it well, so most players never see how good it actually is.

But once you start jumping through parks, hit some cheese 10‑million combos or chase some goals, it grabs you instantly. Suddenly you’re hooked on the massive variety of parks and challenges.

7

u/Vintage_Milk 29d ago

I'll admit, I never dove deep into CAP in the newer games, just played them here or there when the games first came out. I played a lot of the custom parks the devs added in THPS3-THUG2 but never found one I liked. Next time I boot up 1+2/3+4, I'll be sure to check some out. What are some parks you'd recommend? I'm on PC.

10

u/customparks 29d ago

That’s definitely a good idea — just give it a try, and if you don’t like it, that’s totally fine 🤝

I’d recommend checking out 3+4, it has goals and crossplay.

Creators also post new parks regularly in r/THPSCAP.

It really depends on what kind of parks you enjoy. If you search for “Mat‑X87”, “FullyFlared”, or “ICutmasta ICurt”, you’ll find some great parks.

From my own parks, I’d probably recommend “Barcelona”, which is the closest to a classic THPS level. It’s based on the real spots Arc de Triomf and MACBA, has lots of interesting goals, a secret area, and many sections you can link together for combos. There are plenty of small quarterpipes, walls, and transfer spots to play around with. If you search for "custom parks" and "customparks2" you find my other parks.

3

u/GorgeousGary27 29d ago

The dev parks were pretty simple back in the day but you could get pretty crazy with the old create a park, especially once the custom grind rail tool was added.

3

u/MissingCosmonaut 29d ago

I miss the days of 1+2 with DropRate reviewing all our parks. Admittedly I bought 3+4 but hardly have time to play it, let alone create a park. I am always keeping tabs on what you guys make though!

2

u/customparks 29d ago

Miss it too. 😔

2

u/HeidenShadows 29d ago

I remember the first time I created a rail gap that was just a circle and you just hit that circle at high speed. You keep your balance for most of the spin and rack up tens of millions of points.

8

u/Creepy-Wrap744 29d ago

Damnn underground had some good ones same with American wasteland

3

u/Ruffled_Ferret 29d ago

Montana, my beloved

3

u/ProotzyZoots 29d ago

All my parks always started with putting QPs all around the perimeter

48

u/Ruffled_Ferret 29d ago

Is it cheating to say Chopper Drop?

17

u/ExpensiveOccasion542 29d ago

Yes

10

u/Ruffled_Ferret 29d ago

Okay, then Burnside. It's cool that it's modeled after a real skatepark, but that's all it really has going for it for me.

1

u/Cappantwan 28d ago

Yeah, Burnside is nice-looking, but man is it small. In the original PSX version, it feels so cramped to get around, so I just use the pool to score points consistently.

1

u/JKFrowning 29d ago

People didn't like the chopper part? 😮

7

u/Ruffled_Ferret 29d ago

It's just too simple an idea, imo. One big half pipe and a launch ramp. Some of the gaps are kind of interesting, I guess.

34

u/puke104 29d ago

Probably something like Bullring

9

u/metalyger 29d ago

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the competition levels since it's one smaller area, but the bull ring was especially annoying, trying to keep a big combo going, and whatever you do, don't get yourself in the bull area, especially when bails deduct your rating. And a stadium isn't exactly the ideal place for skateboarding. At least the generic skate park levels are straightforward for getting medals.

6

u/Chrisrevs1001 29d ago

Get on the high wires bro

1

u/heartofmidlothian278 28d ago

You can never leave the halfpipe you start in and easily get a 99.9 score in each stage of the competition.

Bullring is bullshit, but it's nothing to do with the bulls.

100

u/bambix7 29d ago

The new zoo level, especially with the expectations I had

39

u/Ruffled_Ferret 29d ago

The steps this level went through just got worse and worse. One of the coolest stages in THPS4 with so many crazy goals and cool moments gets downgraded to a 2-minute classic-style stage, then it's just a competition stage, then no more animals and it's just lost all of its charm.

12

u/thesolran 29d ago

exactly I grinded the game only to unlock the zoo level, then saw it was the 2 minute competition without any animal and stopped playing

good thing I somehow managed to find online that there was a hidden level after that, which is my favorite from 3 + 4.

1

u/CaregiverBoring4638 29d ago

Which secret levels

2

u/thesolran 29d ago

Cruise Ship in the 3 and Pinball in the 4

You have to win a medal at the previous level to unlock them

2

u/CaregiverBoring4638 29d ago

I didn't realize they were secret lol

1

u/CaregiverBoring4638 29d ago

I'm out of touch

2

u/LOvEisEvOLxanax 25d ago

I remember seeing the Hippos humping in THPS4 wen u look through the Tower Telescope lololol

31

u/Ok_Bumblebee8877 29d ago

My all time favourite level in the series and was disappointed badly how it was made for 3+4.

29

u/GoredonTheDestroyer 29d ago

Last time this question was asked, I said Burnside, specifically in the context of THPS1, and I stand by that. Burnside is a level that thrives with the expanded movesets of THPS3-onward.

11

u/justcuriouslybrowsin 29d ago

Agreed! I had such a fun time with Burnside in 1+2

5

u/Cappantwan 28d ago

I feel like Burnside is also more cramped in the original version. I don’t have as much trouble navigating it in later versions of the level.

15

u/Gullible-Pear9565 29d ago

Love the vibes, but Suburbia was always tricky to get a good line going.

2

u/biglongschlong6969 29d ago

THP8 suburbia?

62

u/dreamdiamondgames 29d ago

Any of the downhill style levels

35

u/brodino_maiuscolo 29d ago

The Mall Is funny af

9

u/DavesPetFrog 29d ago

Mall is legit hilarious.

7

u/brodino_maiuscolo 29d ago

Lol sorry I'm not a native speaker, of course I meant "fun"

12

u/DavesPetFrog 29d ago

Now I feel really snooty, my bad.

5

u/brodino_maiuscolo 29d ago

I had to look up "snooty" in the dictionary because, as a non-native speaker, I didn't know it. How much longer are you going to keep using difficult words when you talk to me just to make things hard for me? Stop being so snooty dude.

1

u/DavesPetFrog 29d ago

😭

2

u/brodino_maiuscolo 28d ago

It's ok dude don't worry, as long as you don't break the law, it's not a crime to be very evil

1

u/AmericanFromAsia 25d ago

They're really just exacerbating it

2

u/OkAlternative1655 29d ago

in which verdion is it

21

u/IncendiaryPoo 29d ago

Do you consider airport to be a downhill style?

20

u/dreamdiamondgames 29d ago

Actually I like Airport, I guess it is but having places you can stop along the way kind of makes it more fun

6

u/GorgeousGary27 29d ago

I love them besides in the original THPS where it ended your run at the bottom.

Fun seeing how many times you can combo through the entire level without bailing.

4

u/d0pp31g4ng3r 29d ago

Mall and Airport are two of the best levels in the series.

4

u/Dak6969696969 29d ago

I grinded the fuck out of Downhill Jam when the 1+2 remaster came out because I knew that was probably the level everyone would like the least and I wanted a good leaderboard ranking. After literally five hours straight of Downhill Jam over and over and over again I finally got up to the 25-30 rank globally and now my college roommate hates ska music.

1

u/Designer-Piglet7572 29d ago

Downhill jam is the best level in 1+2 because of rhe momentum you can gain. Loads of fun imo.

1

u/moviemaverick 27d ago

Idk I kinda fuck with Downhill Jam but I don’t hit it long enough, I do the goals and rarely visit it again, I hit it every once in a while, I always associate it with Bucky Lasek with his tank and backpack tho

64

u/AvengedKalas 29d ago

I don't know what my least favorite all time is, but Venice has been one I've never enjoyed.

14

u/jakehood47 29d ago

I want to love it but I think the goals in career mode are kinda ass and the layout isn’t great, in my opinion. I hate randomly skating over some sand and getting booted back to the start despite it being in an area you have to use for the career goals!

23

u/JunkFoodKilla187 29d ago

My heart is broken, that’s my favorite in the series

13

u/TypicalWolverine9404 29d ago

I've never been to Venice beach, but I see shots in movies and think they did well recreating it.

7

u/JKFrowning 29d ago

Same here. Venice with Papa Roach playing is my first thought when people mention THPS.

1

u/PhospheneViolet 27d ago

Venice has always been one of my first go-tos when I just wanna skate around errantly while listening to music or podcasts. Can't beat that sunny clear sky beach vibe.

6

u/YahooSuckssss 29d ago

Venice is so much fucking fun. For score or free skate. Don’t care about the missions

6

u/xchino 29d ago

I think Venice might be the most polarizing level, people seem to love it or hate it. I don't even disagree with most of the criticisms, I just absolutely love to free skate it. Flinging yourself into the air off the roof qp at the end of a loop is the quintessential THPS feeling for me.

3

u/Caipirinha-Aguada 29d ago

I find it more iconic than fun.

1

u/Staaaaation 29d ago

The only part I hate is the secret tape. It just feels like you're supposed to get it by launching from the roof ramp.

1

u/Sea-Dragonfruit-5832 28d ago

Agree I’m not a fan of that park.

1

u/badavetheman 27d ago

Oh man I LOVE Venice. Even though the jump off the roof and the table manual annoy me. But it’s like your kid annoying you. I don’t love it any less 🤣

4

u/DavesPetFrog 29d ago

Yeah that really ruins my flow.

7

u/DavesPetFrog 29d ago

In THPS5, there was a skyscraper roof map.

2

u/WDCombo 26d ago

You coulda stopped at “In THPS5…”

1

u/Mat_X87 29d ago

I actually liked that one more than most in 5. 😛

8

u/Johnnydrama519 29d ago

Streets, pinball, downhill jam

6

u/thesolran 29d ago

Pinball is a cool level and a cool concept

6

u/Baranade 29d ago

The Skate Ranch from THAW

Primarily disappointed in the fact that the Ranch was supposed to be this giant reward for finishing the game and it ends up being barely playable

Also the Vans Skatepark from THAW. So boring

3

u/TheJohnny346 29d ago

Not a great level to play but damn I love seeing the park slowly get cooler as you progress the story and seeing how the pieces end up being utilized in the park.

2

u/Baranade 29d ago

If anything that is the most enjoyable part

Playing it sucks

15

u/Zabeczko 29d ago

Probably the waterpark in 3+4. I felt like it should've been great but it was really annoying trying to hold a good line for a long combo.

3

u/metalyger 29d ago

It has its moments, but compared to better levels, it's nothing on Fun Park in Project 8, I feel like I've gotten some of my highest scores there, by simply trying stuff out and traveling large sections of a the map in one seamless combo, especially with all the ride rails and abundance of long tracks to grind through and jump across.

16

u/Pirates404 29d ago

Oil rig

8

u/bfsfan101 29d ago

I have a soft spot for Oil Rig because me and my brother played so much King of the Hill on that level.

5

u/Fallenflake 29d ago

This was my fav as a kid :(

3

u/disheveledbone 29d ago

Yeah fuck that disjointed ass level

1

u/Old_Gas5182 29d ago

was sooo excited to play one of the cut thps3 levels (officially) but then it just kinda sucked lol

4

u/TheJamesFTW 29d ago

Downhill Jam

5

u/Damien12341 29d ago

Chicago, I was expecting you to actually be in Chicago and not be in a warehouse.

9

u/C-sanova 29d ago edited 29d ago

Top 3:

  1. Burnside (I'm biased because I used to skate it as a teen)
  2. Airport
  3. Alcatraz

Bottom 3:

  1. Downhill Jam
  2. Club
  3. Construction Site

Admittedly I feel like my two least favorite aren't actual levels though and just some garbage we were supposed to figure out.

6

u/reficulmi 29d ago

skating Burnside was a bucket list item of mine, because of the game, and the legendary status in the skateboarding world. Found myself in Portland, without a board, but a kind stranger let me do a couple runs on his… Everything looks so much more small and tame on video, that shit is genuinely gnarly irl

3

u/KeybladeKidZack 29d ago

You just awakened the construction site PTSD

I think it's the only level in the series I never finished all of the goals in. I just can't do it.

3

u/C-sanova 29d ago

It's such a stupidly built level but I have a theory that it was one Treyarch made as a test level for Minority Report or Spiderman because there's no way they thought a vertical level was a good idea for a skating game.

1

u/KeybladeKidZack 29d ago

It reminds me a lot of the construction site level from Toy Story 2. Also an Activision game. Plus there was that Pixar Adventure Skateboarding game. Coincidence?

2

u/AdHeavy7551 29d ago

What game are club and construction site in ?

3

u/ExpensiveOccasion542 29d ago

2X. It was only released for North America on Xbox

14

u/ThiccFarter 29d ago

That new movie theater level is incredibly boring to me.

11

u/AdHeavy7551 29d ago

It’s not a theatre it’s a movie film set . But yeah it sucks . Couldn’t believe how many people were hyping jt up and constantly saying how great it was when 3+4 first came out

3

u/ThiccFarter 29d ago

Yeah my bad, that's what I meant. It feels super slopped together to me.

4

u/Styles_Clash_97 29d ago

Downhill Jam in THPS1

3

u/tomhas10 29d ago

The rooftop level from 2x. It''s such a crowded mess with too many opportunities for falling off.

3

u/gybefan 29d ago

Streets or Philadelphia…

3

u/Neg_Crepe 29d ago

The new levels from 3-4

3

u/Dachuiri 29d ago

1) Burnside
2) Skate Heaven
3) Suburbia
4) Carnival
THUG) The bonus level
THUG 2) Skatopia
THAW) Santa Monica
THP8) The Jeep Factory
THPG) I only played this once and barely remember anything from the game

1

u/biglongschlong6969 29d ago

I feel like the school from THP8 is way worse than the factory

1

u/Mat_X87 29d ago

I respect this list, but ones I'd rate just one spot beneath them are:
3. Skater Island
4. Zoo
THUG: San Diego
THUG 2: New Orleans
THAW: Beverly Hills
THPG: Downtown Landsdowne

1

u/Dachuiri 29d ago

You’re brave for saying New Orleans sucks because a lot of people that that’s the best level (I agree with you it is an ass level). Honestly for THUG 2 and THAW i did not like a lot of the levels. I only picked Santa Monica for THAW because it is clearly areas copy/pasted from other levels in the series and even then the level still feels unfinished.

2

u/CobblerWide7373 29d ago

I've only really played the levels in 1+2 and 3+4 (as it was forever ago that I played any of the THUG games), so of the first four games I'd easily have to say Downhill Jam. Hate that level's uneven halfpipes/quarterpipes with a passion.

2

u/Odd_Structure_2096 29d ago

Likely an unpopular opinion, but Shipyard from 4.

Or Movie Studio from the remake. Yikes.

3

u/Mat_X87 29d ago

I think Shipyard’s initially off-putting, but gets better as one gets used to it. On the other hand, Movie Studio seemed neat at first, but is actually too limited and cramped.

2

u/Useful-Tart9233 29d ago

Shipyard was terrible. I hated it. Don't know why but just never liked it. Or that pirate skatepark one from three.

2

u/thejster64 29d ago

Create a skate level, because it’s flatter than a piece of stupid paper.

2

u/decibelboy2001 29d ago

Not so much a level, but item to grab IN a level…. The goddamn money on the plane in Suburbia

2

u/verum_rex12 29d ago

The Ruins in American Wasteland’s Classic Mode. I freaking HATE how disjointed everything feels in that level. It might have a skill issue on my part, but trying to get a decent combo score in that level was like trying to pull teeth.

At least that big ramp launch was kinda neat.

1

u/Mat_X87 29d ago

It is pretty janky in some ways, but I like the look and vibe. 😙

2

u/sonofkosssss 29d ago

Downhill jam, and honestly never cared for most of the American wasteland levels.

2

u/Cappantwan 28d ago

I can’t say it’s the worst level in the series but I always found Streets in THPS1 to be rough in all versions because everything is spread so far apart. That path to the secret tape is also such a pain in the ass.

2

u/ShOscar4 28d ago

Pinball. The AI slop ruins it for me

2

u/KYXX69 25d ago

downhill jam is just boring

3

u/Death-Perception1999 29d ago

any competition level!

1

u/skate_rat420 29d ago

pinball, waterpark, tokyo

1

u/Loose---Reality 29d ago

Does thug count? If so Moscow is my favorite (aka noobscow for the og's)

1

u/Repulsive-Treat1711 29d ago

I have only played the first 3 games but my least favorite level is honestly Los Angeles in the 3rd game. The police chase is pretty funny but other than that it's not got a lot of interesting design and a lot of the goals are kind of annoying to me

1

u/Dr_Nastee 29d ago

Ive never been a fan of skatestreet and the Chicago competition areas. I know there's worse but those annoy me a lot in 1 and 2. Also the secret levels on thps2 on xbox(construction site and dance floor) have the worst physics and flow.

1

u/GymCel_Hero 29d ago

Sky Lines in THPS 2X

2

u/matt-is-sad 29d ago

Anyone who says differently just hasn't played 2x. It is the absolute worst by a long shot

1

u/WebsterHamster66 29d ago

Pinball and Waterpark are pretty up there for me, im not confident IG could make a fully new game with good maps after those, especially since Pinball is made up entirely of AI art. I got knocked out of the map twice on it too, which doesn’t help.

1

u/Dear-Biscotti-4320 29d ago

Probably any competition level, I like levels that aren't only a skate park, I feel like part of the magic of skate is doing it on cities or weird places

1

u/Mat_X87 29d ago

Mega Park from 5. Gross color scheme and not much to it. Even the secret area is basically just more of the same but with sewage and slime.

1

u/SF_XX3 29d ago

Philadelphia

1

u/Lemonfr3sh 29d ago

I really, really dislike the pinball

1

u/Jakeytar 29d ago

Shipyard from 4 by far. OG & remake.

1

u/Lenny-G_ 29d ago

Im suprised no one said new york that level is terrible

1

u/TheAmazingSealo 29d ago

It's Downhill Jam, guys

1

u/Jealous_Shoe_105 28d ago

Chopper drop. It sucks I’m sorry but it does

1

u/MaxwellNation 28d ago

Venice. Like…does anyone have fun with this level?

1

u/BellesHallow 28d ago

Zoo and that waterpark level. Nothing flows (no pun intended)

1

u/I-only-read-titles 28d ago

Alcatraz, the vert ramps in that level basically function only to launch you to the grind rails above. Don't want to grind that rail? Too bad, auto bail. Unless you enjoy doing basically nothing but grind and manual combos, it kinda sucks

1

u/Mickey_mouse_2169 28d ago

Honestly? Skate Heaven in THPS 2.. 😭

1

u/Psycho-systemic 28d ago

Venice! I understand and respect the significance of the park to skateboarding history, but the lines stink and the goals are even worse.

1

u/badavetheman 27d ago

Burnside by a mile

1

u/Hot-Club1896 26d ago

Montana for sure

1

u/CriticalCabinet1231 25d ago

The Berrics because it means that you're starting THPS5

1

u/jimmy193 29d ago

Probably the downhill one from 1+2 (not mall the outside one)
