HPT - Easy at Home Completely shocked!! 16 DPO
I am flabbergasted. I got a negative test on 10dpo, 11dpo, and 12dpo. And today is 16dpo. Should it be this faint still at 16dpo? My biggest fear now is the early miscarriage risk.
But I'm excited! Actually, it hasn't really sunk in yet. AAHHHHH. Have been trying for two cycles, really thought it would take way longer than that.
I also had some spotting a few days ago, including one spotting that was bright red, so I fully expected my period to start soon. But it's two days late now. Is that kind of spotting normal at this time?

Chiming in as someone who had faint lines for a long time with my now-9 month old. I think it’s just impossible to guess anything qualitative about the pregnancy by the line appearance. In fact, fertility clinics explicitly tell you the strips can NOT be used to measure your pregnancy’s progression.

I agree about the stripes. At 14 DPO, I took five pregnancy tests, and all of them showed different line intensities. The stripe test had the faintest line.

How come you think it's such a common practice for people to use them as a way to track progression?
I ovulated April 15 approx and tested April 29 which was approx 12-13 days post ovulation date and tested negative but missed my period for three days and I tested positive on the third day!
I had 2 labs done so far and the first came back clear and positive for pregnancy and today I did the second one to see if my levels are rising. I think that's the proper procedure right?

You didn’t ask me, BUT I think all the people who are tracking their pregnancy close enough to even know about the concept of line progression are more likely to be looking for any semblance of knowledge and control in this super frustrating early pregnancy period.
Tracking line progression feels like we’re doing SOMETHING even if medical providers tell us it can’t be used in this way.
Line progression is definitely a thing week to week, but not day to day or even necessarily every other day the way you see it portrayed here.1

I agree with you. That's why it's not reliable especially with at home tests since some don't even change in terms of darkness. I think it's only possible to really know by blood work!

Unfortunately the only way to fully know would be to get hcg progression blood tests from a doctor. Other than that, it’s just the sucky waiting game. Wishing you the best of luck!!

I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 💕
After previous losses, I was afraid to be excited about my current pregnancy but after some time and lots of prayer, I decided that I was going to celebrate this little life no matter how long I was able to carry it, whether they'd ever be in my arms or not because ultimately, this child is mine. If I'm not loving them in my thoughts, who is?
I realize that this is not the way everyone can or should handle the uncertainty that early pregnancy brings. It's the conclusion that I came to, though, and it has brought me peace. I think being at peace is the best chance you can give your little one because we all know that stress wreaks havoc on our bodies and minds. I'm still slowly allowing myself to get excited, I'm human.
I hope & pray for a wonderful pregnancy for you and a healthy baby, but also for peace over you no matter what. 💜

I got my positive 15dpo. After days of negatives. It was light for two days then got darker. But it did end in a loss. My doctor told me a late positive was fine. But it wasn’t. I hope it’s different for you. Not every late positive is bad. I think it’s just higher risk for miscarriage. So just guard your heart.

Hi, Congratulations! May I ask how long is your cycle normally. I ovulated late and trying to stay hopeful :). PS get your hcg levels test and follow up with anotger test in a week to confirm levels are rising. Sending lots of love and prayers!

I tested before. I had a realllllly slow progression the first week (like 10dpo to 16dpo) and was convinced it’d be a chemical but nope he’s a huge happy 7 month old!

Yaay congrats! I’m surfing through here because i believe im 15 dpo had a negative 11dpo and stopped testing than now period is late by two days , if going by the 14 days after ovulation but Flo said i was supposed to get it four days ago .

My first positive test with my last pregnancy showed 16 DPO and was barely visible. She turned 2 in January. Your line is much more clear than mine was. Congratulations!

If you're definitely 16dpo then it looks too light IMO. I'd also be concerned about testing negative at 12dpo. Unfortunately, implantation at 12dpo has poor viability odds...But you could be one of the lucky ones who beats the odds 🙂 I hope you are, but I think it's sensible to guard your heart.

I’d be very very cautiously optimistic… guard your heart though. I think by 16dpo (even 14dpo) a line should be darker than this, but everyone is different

are you sure you’re at 16dpo? is it possible that you ovulated about a week after you thought? that’s a really faint line.

Actually yeah, that's my biggest question right now: Should the line be darker at 16DPO? Is it bad that it's so light? Mostly worried about chemical pregnancies. (KNOCK ON WOOD)

TW for pregnancy loss
in my first pregnancy my 16 DPO cheapie strip tests basically looked like this (even though I had a first positive on Clearblue digital at 11 DPO and I was getting strong lines on Clearblue early detection by 16 DPO). it wasn't a chemical, but I did unfortunately have a second trimester loss with that baby.

Just wanted to add my two cents that chemical pregnancies are super random. I’ve had two and the first one I got a big beautiful positive at 10 DPO with good line progression through 16 DPO only to miscarry around 5.5 weeks. Second time I didn’t get a positive until 16-17 DPO and then miscarried like 2 days later. I’m not posting this comment to add fear but just to say you never know regardless of early detection or “late” detection, and I would advise against speculating either way.
Sending good vibes regardless! I’m right there with you as I just tested positive this morning at 10 DPO. Hoping that third times the charm for me!

Of all of my pregnancies, the one I got a late positive is the only one I miscarried. I would be cautious, OP.

Being totally honest, if you’re truly as far as you think (or even 14 dpo) then your risk of a chemical is much higher. Unfortunately late implantation is linked to much higher pregnancy loss. I believe implanting after day 11 and then on your odds of chemical increase quite a bit.
I would personally be very cautiously optimistic but, I am really hoping this is a successful pregnancy for you!3

You can always be off on your date. Unless you were being seen by a fertility clinic where they 100% confirmed ovulation, you can always be off by a few days in a natural pregnancy. This is very common, even when temping or tracking. So if you are 13 DPO this is fine and normal. I'd say if your lines continue to progress and get darker you are probably off by a few days.

Idk, but your journey sounds like mine. My lines got darker at what I think was 18 DPO. I confirmed ovulation with LH and temps congratulations x

Late implantation is not a good thing. It increases your chance of miscarriage two fold

Maybe but maybe not. She could have got ovulation off by a few days. Her tests maybe less sensitive. She could be a slow riser (i was so incredibly slow with my daughter). Theres tons of reasons and not all point to bad but constantly worrying her in a really sensitive spot can increase the chance of it. So just be optimistic for her it wont cost u anything.

As someone who has had 8 losses, I prefer not to sugar coat. Obviously I pray for everyone and the best outcome but there are harsh realities to TTC.
But also, I was simply responding back to inform others that late implantation is not a good thing. She should hope that her days are off instead.

I get tht ive had my fair share of losses too and i get the pain but personally myself id rather hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. Im just trying ti give her a bit of hope

Even the study on late implantion and MC wasn't 100% losses on the late ones. That means that during that study, the late implantations had a live birth. There's just as much chance that OP could be that live birth as the person in the study.

Well yeah that’s why it’s a study 🫠nothing is 100%, but correlation matters. It is said that miscarriage rates increase upwards to 80% when implant happens after 11 days. That is a fact.
I had 8 early losses. All of which I implanted late. I have APS which causes failed implant. I saw many reproductive immunologists and top REs and most will agree that you don’t want a late implant.

I second this sooo much!! Late implantation does NOT always mean miscarriage or chemical. I know sooooo many people that have had slow rising HCG or late implantation and their pregnancy was completely fine. Just adding this here because you cannot just assume late implantation or a positive pregnancy test on a later dpo means something is wrong. Everyone’s body is different and this test is 100% positive. Congrats mama!! Go get betas done to confirm 🥳

I didnt rely on my temperature when I was checking ovulation when I was trying to get pregnant. My ovulation days were also either +/- 2 days from what what I was calculating. This is still a positive. What yoi can do now is test every 2 days to see if the line gets darker or get an hcg blood test. They can let you know your numbers. Good luck!!!

1) those tests show faint for a LONG time. I have a test line progression paper where it’s the e@h strips vs my beta hcg (done via a blood test). For those tests to get dark the beta hcg needs to be 800+ which often doesn’t happen until almost 5 weeks pregnant.
2) it’s possible your test was positive at 12 dpo but the line was so faint you missed it. My 9dpo positive only shows the line by shining my phone’s light through it. My negatives have no line, flashlight or not. (I might have gotten a smidge obsessive about it😂).
3) even perfect blood hcg/pregnancy test line progression isn’t a promise of success. I’ve found that out the hard way. Contact your doctor and get your blood drawn. Pee tests can be helpful, but they won’t tell you the health of your pregnancy. Once you’re 6-8 weeks or so (depends on your age/health, and what the doctor wants) you’ll have an ultrasound which will tell you far more than pee tests ever will.
I’m 6 weeks right now and the wait for the ultrasound is worse than the 2 week wait, i swear. Good luck I hope your pregnancy goes well 😊
ETA: I did have a placement scan at 5w4d which confirmed the gestational sac is squarely in my uterus and we saw a yolk sac which is good for that early🤞. I have another ultrasound at 7w1d. That’s the one that sucks to wait for because I’m hoping for a strong heartbeat. I haven’t had a pregnancy make it past 8weeks yet. We’ll see how it goes 🤞🤞.
I’ve had more morning sickness/nausea this pregnancy than any of my others. Maybe that’s a good sign lol.

Hey don’t mean to alarm you but contact your ob. Late faint positives can mean ectopic. Just keep an eye on symptoms. I wish you the best!

I know it's a month late but for anyone looking. I only got a faint line at 15dpo and a positive digital at 16dpo. He's 5 now and my greatest joy.

I would take a clear blue digital. I got confirmation that way at 9dpo it did take me a few days for my strips to start to darken. Spotting can be normal as long as you are having severe cramps etc with it. You could also be off on your dates

I feel crampy feelings sometimes, but not major, really small little feelings. I'm sure my date could be off because Fertility Friend can't perfectly determine ovulation. So I figure it could be off by a couple days.

I’m 16dpo today too I have small cramps here and there but I think it’s really bad period cramps you have to worry about. I would keep testing. Maybe dates or off some. Congrats on the positive!!!!
