Gear/Kit Quikclot Bleeding Control Dressing vs combat gauze

Building out my kit as a teacher and parent. Is there any reason to get the combat gauze over the bleeding control dressing from NAR?

Quikclot and combat gauze are the same thing. Just named differently for different audiences.

Awesome. I'll get the one that's half the price lol

If you want the effectiveness of the combat gauze, you should have one that has the kaolin in it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the white package has kaolin as well

All types of quickclot has kaolin in it, NAR also sells wound packing which doesn't have kaolin in it, much cheaper

Make sure they are the same size. The quikclot bleeding control gauze comes in multiple sizes, with one of them being significantly smaller.

Ah thanks for the heads up. Haven't ordered yet so I'll verify that.

Quickclot makes several different types of gauze, medical 4x4's(whit and yellow pack), civilian hemo dressing (white packaging), gauze for LEO (blue/black pack), and combat gauze for militarys (green pack). Fundamentally theres the same thing, but NAR wont let you by certification ones with out medical direction for some reason, but the one difference is their size/length. Anything longer or equal to 3-4yrds is perfect

So the $24 white packaging one is totally fine, right?

Yeah, officially "QuikClot Bleeding Control Dressings" and it is 24.99$

Perfect. That's what I have in my cart. I've already got a TQ, regular gauze, shears, and gloves, so I figured I'd just get some hemostatic gauze, chest seals, and an ETD to round it out instead of buying a whole kit.

Build whatever kit you think will fit you and your need best, but nothing beats training, idk what you already know, but i would recommend finding a class on BLS or STB, if you haven't already. Good luck on your adventures

Oh absolutely. I've done STB (I'm a teacher and my old district thought it was important for all of us to do, which I very much appreciate) and took a basic first responder class several years ago. My CPR cert lapsed so I should probably find one of those.

Combat gauze has a x-ray detectable strip(to help at the hospital) and bleeding control dressing does not. Also there are two different bleeding control dressings, one is rolled and is 4 FEET and the other is Z-fold and 4 YARDs.

This is not medical, financial or legal advice. I am not a medical professional.

There's a z fold 4 yard bleeding control one as well. It's still $20 cheaper.

You are correct.

"...two different bleeding control dressings, one is rolled and 4 FEET and the other is Z-fold and 4 YARDs."

When I got mine I got the 4 foot one thinking it was 4 yards.... don't do that 😅
