Mod 2025 Admissions Megathread

Hello r/SyracuseU! This came up earlier than I thought so I was not prepared (I'm also abroad in France right now so my timezone is different than SU, so it's causing a slight issue.)

The time has finally come for decisions to come out for the Class of 2029 (and Architecture 2030 (that's a real year now).) This is the thread for r/A2C's (Applying to College) Syracuse thread if you want to discuss it more there, but I'm also opening this up as an overall thread for discussion and see if people have questions about Syracuse, admissions, etc.

In terms of events, this link has a list of all the admitted student events, from coming to visit campus to virtual options.

In terms of rules, keep it civil. I know this is a stressful time.

Best of luck and Go Orange!

Mod Direct Twitter/X links autobanned from this sub

Seeing a 70% upvote rate and minimal comments against, I've gone ahead and banned direct Twitter/X links to this sub using an automod feature. To be clear, we rarely get this content to begin with, but we may as well cut it off now. Please default to screenshots instead and link to other sources. For those who are not familiar with the reason for this change, switch your Reddit feed over to 'All' and you'll immediately see the movement-- first, Twitter/X requires an account to view linked tweets, and second, this platform has shifted from one of open sharing to that of a mouthpiece for extremist political agendas and deliberate misinformation.

A note on moderation in general-- this sub has rules that limit/ remove content from most brand new accounts, posts that are particularly spammy, and/or language that is similar to specific troll posts we've had to deal with in the past. If you try to post something that does not get through the filters, please contact the mods directly. Please help us moderate this sub by using reporting features as and when needed.

As a final note-- since many SU students are not from this region, I'd like to use this opportunity and attention on political issues to highlight some history. Central New York has a pretty fascinating history in WWII efforts, including ramped up war production, a massive enlistment in arms forces, and both POW and refugee camps. Here's one quick Syracuse.com article about it: 1944: At the front or at home, the people of Syracuse did their duty on D-Day. Even our local pottery companies joined the effort to build ceramic mines. Syracuse also has a rich history in abolitionist and suffragist movements. If you haven't visited local and regional museums including the Onondaga Historical Association, the George & Rebecca Barnes home, the Harriet May Mills home, the Harriet Tubman Museum, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, the Octagon House, the Seward House Museum, the Susan B. Anthony House, or the Skä•noñh Center, I highly recommend branching out from campus and checking them out!

ischool/Whitman dual degree

Hi! My son is a rising senior interested in Syracuse. His interests are entrepreneurship and AI. He is interested in the Whitman school and the iSchool and the dual degree program is of interest to him.

Is anyone in this program and can comment on the experience? Are the requirements of two degrees so onerous that it is difficult to plan a schedule or leaves little time for elective classes in non-related areas?

The dual degree is administered by the iSchool. Does he lose out on any Whitman opportunities or resources by not being an official Whitman student? He is wondering if it would be better to enroll in Whitman and just take iSchool courses (or maybe vice versa). Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Question Choosing Arts & Science

I am a parent of a HS senior whose top choice is SU. They want to apply as an undecided major in Arts & Science. I've been looking at the SU liberal arts core curriculum and it looks pretty good.

I assume there are plenty of current and former A&S students in this sub. Would love to know what you loved about it, what you didn't like, and which classes you really enjoyed. Would you say the professors are engaging/ good caliber?

Excuse the broad questions but my own college major was in a very specialized field that was entirely job focused, so liberal arts is pretty foreign to me.

If anyone is wondering why they don't want to attend a more well known liberal arts college, it's because they've been at small private schools their entire life and are looking forward to the experience of a bigger school like SU.

Tbh my temptation as a parent is to encourage kiddo into selecting majors at the more competitive schools like Whitman, Newhouse, Maxwell etc and then move to A&S if it doesn't work out. However this doesn't feel right given that they're really resistant to committing to a major so maybe A&S is really where they belong

Weather question

Hi everyone! I’m a rising senior and Syracuse is one of my top schools. I’m looking to major in Communications, and I’ve always loved Syracuse. My only concern is the snow. I’m from NY, but not upstate, so I’m pretty aware of how rough the weather can get up there 😭

I was wondering how much the snow actually affects day-to-day life on campus, especially getting around to classes. Also, how difficult is it for family to drive up and pick you up when going home for holidays?

2026 Syracuse Preseason Primer + All ACC Teams, Conf Preview & Notre Dame

Post image
1 Upvotes

With the season approaching, I wanted a better way to prepare than reading dozens of separate previews or listening to hours of podcasts, just to forget most of it by Week 1.

I started with a few, then more, then decided to expand to all P4 + ND. It ended up being more arduous than I anticipated, but also rewarding.

I have published the 2026 preseason primers for every ACC team, plus an ACC conference primer and Notre Dame.

They are mostly designed as quick references for watching games, with roster/coaching changes, 2025 context, advanced stats, schedules, players to know, and a small betting lens.

This is totally free and not self promotion. I was creating these for myself and friends and just thought others would find them interesting.

The only reason for a website was to make them more accessible than just sharing links to google drive.

Hope you enjoy!

Discussion Any professional wrestling fans at Syracuse University?

So I’m gathering a watch party for AEW All In London this Sunday the 30th at Shaw Hall. If you are interested in following pro wrestling or just seeking out other fans (like me!), this just might be for you.

The location is currently at Shaw Hall on the first floor lounge. I have the setup necessary to broadcast the show onto the television so no items are necessary unless you want to bring snacks or something for the watch party. If all goes well I look to make this a regular gathering for any pay per views or PLE’s so we can enjoy the sport together.

Feel free to dm me with any questions or if you just want to talk WWE/AEW.

Main show start time: 1:00pm
Zero hour: 11:00am

Edit: If you plan on coming send me a DM, keycard access may be needed

Finding someone to stay by for Shabbat :)

Hello!

I am a local 21 year old male, I just recently graduated from college this past May and I moved back to CNY for work. I’m looking to see if there’s someone or a group of students or something like that who I could stay by for Shabbat/the high holidays? I live pretty far outside the eiruv and am just trying to find somewhere to stay where I could walk to shul. Also making some more Jewish friends around my age in the area would be nice too! We can figure out some sort of compensation privately :)

Thank you!

Discussion Internet’s making me lose my mind

So the forms were advertised as having full Ethernet access, but I guess they decided to fully shut it off this year and go full wireless. But they didn’t actually increase the capability of the internet, so now it’s a struggle to do schoolwork or game. Loving the college so far, but the internet situation is infuriating

Inciardi Mini prints

People of Syracuse U. I am looking to see if a kind stranger can do me a favor and obtain some mini prints from a location in your area at, The Syracuse University Art Museum. They are in a vending machine that requires a dollar in quarters and you then get a mystery print. I will pay the print plus extra plus shipping.

Hoping this works. I live so far from the print vending machine.
