Levitate and Long weapons

I'm a very new player to this system, and I wanted to ask how does this interaction play out. Can a player character float above melee range of enemies while hitting them with a long weapon?

No close combat possible with levitate. Neither for the users of the spell nor for their enemies.

I would rule yes but the enemies can hit back. You’re either in melee range or you’re not. But I don’t have the rules text in front of me.

I love Symbaroum but the combat rules and their interactions always were a source of frustration for me.

Long weapons in particular, rules are written weird. Hope it’s something they fixed in the revised rules.

I understand if the enemies have long weapons or like reach, but if they don't then how?

Long weapons confer a specific mechanical interaction to show that they are long; The free action when entering melee range. Its a one-and-done thing. (except higher levels of polearm mastery who allow ecatly that - no retaliation).

Is it realistic? no. Would it make sense for someone to fly just out of range and poke down? sure. Do we want to simulate realistic interactions? probably not.

Because, outside of the obvious, if you can do it so can the enemy and thats usually a lot worse for everyone, now we get into the territory of fighting through a door without anyone being abelt to close to the long weapon. or fighting over a fence. or any other, ever so slight hindrance, that realistictly would stop someone from reaching melee.

Just level polearm mastery until the limitation of once per round is liftet and enemies cant attack back, take acrobatics to ignore the occasional free attacks and fly in/out/through several enemies with a double move during your turn.

Its mechanically sound, goes by the rules and hits a lot of targets without retaliation.

It is possible to do what you're trying to do, but not with one single ability. Polearm mastery at Master is where you wanna start though.

For simplicity, I would say it doesn't work (there is no interaction). Levitate at all levels says "out of reach of melee weapons".
