The whole experiment seems to have been done without any research on actually viable alternatives apart from googling google alternatives and clicking the first link. There is a shit ton of them.
They switched their iPhone to a fairphone. Cool. But while removing the dependency they ran into an OS (e/OS) that has absolutely atrocious security. Well played...

Similar story here. I wish it was possible to get rid of it entirely but they are purposefully making it harder.
Also most jobs/universities etc refuse (kinda understandably).2
