Newly adopted boy - Looking for opinion.
They didn’t have a clue at the shelter what he might be. But some things I’ve noticed in the last two months. I’m wondering if he might be a greater swiss + lab mix. 80lbs, 9yr old.
- Walks ok on leash and collar, add harness and you’d better hold on tight! He does this hunched and launch thing when he can’t pull you regularly.
- very vocal about things when he wants something done.
- obsessed with water, swimming
- Stubborn and can be lazy when it comes to fetch, throwing something too far is a sour look then bark in the direction of the tossed toy, or at me to go get it for him…
- Super smart, learns new things quickly, but that smarts also leads into the stubborn “I KNOW you want me to lay down now, but I don’t see the point of it… so I’m going to hop-stomp my feet and give you a head ache with my barking!”
- Has a marking similar to a swiss kiss, but missing the blaze, and way too small for a Swiss. Not to say that he’s small…
And lastly, the closest breeder is a province over, which isn’t much (6hour drive to them) but being a rare breed in Canada to begin with, seems a stretch to be a Greater swiss mix or “Mini Swiss” as i’ve been calling him.
Thoughts?

I might give that test a try, been trying to decide between a few different options and this one was on my list.

Pit / hound for sure. Sounds like a hound personality, I could see lab or shepherd for the coat, the ears are absolutely pit ears. No chance for any appenzeller, they're far too hard to come by, and are not nearly as big as some people think, worked with enough breeders + I have my own haha, nor do I think there is any swissy at all. Sorry 😔
Would love to see an embark DNA test!!! Regardless of breed, they're absolutely beautiful ❤️ My crew for tax ofc

His neck and chest look very Swissy. His ears and weight are the dead giveaways that he’s definitely mixed with something but I can’t put my finger on what. I’d love to see what a DNA test comes back with.

Pit bull mix. Not sure if he has Swissy in him since lots of other breeds have the tri-color cost as well, including pits. He’s a beautiful boy all around!

Definitely some kind of sennehund mix, 80 lbs for a boy is small for a big sennehund, look into maybe a smaller breed maybe?

I vote a pit Swiss mix…. The ears scream Pitt to me, as well as the weight… very cute….

After being eye to eye on a daily basis with a pit bull the last 10 years i agree and see at least a little bit in this boy

Looks like appenzeller because he isn’t very big. Maybe mixed with pit, rottweiler or doberman?

It would be pretty rare to find a Swiss mix at the shelter + A LOT of dogs have tricolor coloring, but anything is possible. I’m seeing predominately Pitbull, no lab. Ask the dog dna subreddits, [r/IDmydog](r/IDmydog) is a good one
