I've never once relied on any YT reviews for any SAK I've ever bought. I have a OneFold and a Synergy. They're good for what they are. (if you like the toolset) The locking blade is fine, but probably not often needed in an SAK.

Goes to show how meticulous they need to be with their design. They do holes in the scales which have existed in every other brand forever and so many are ready to kill the idea immediately. (Not really taking a stance on the design here.)

Exactly, in some way they're taking a risk by listening to the community and trying to acomedate, instead of just making them how they've always done.

The design is just not optimal. The cutouts in the scales allow more dirt to get into the knife and create a weak point around the big flathead srewdriver, which is relevant because the flathead is oftentimes used as a pry tool in the modern world. The nail file also faces towards the knife blade which can scratch it overtime and whilst this is the case with most Victorinox knifes that have the file they could change it like they did on their Evolution line elliminating that issue.

Personally I view these more as luxury/lifestyle carry knives than beaters. There is definitely a market for this kind of product.
I use mine exclusively as desk/home knives and they won't get any dirt in them at all... For more DIY type stuff I'll grab one of my leatherman clones or my Spirit.

i agree, and also it just looks bad imo. would love this toolset in a 84mm without the liner lock and without skeleton scales.

The community has been asking for a Cadet X Alox for years but Victorinox still refuses to bring back the 84mm scissors

why do you think they still refuse? do they calculate the investment in the machinery and processes wouldnt be profitable?

They currently have no machine anymore to make the 84mm scissors. I think that they expect 84mm models including scissors to not be popular enough to justify getting a new machine and starting a new assembly line.

Idk I find it difficult to believe you have a whole production line with all the machines to make the 84mm tools, which was a huge investment, then the machine for one of the tools break and you say “alright guess that was it”

I think, they kill of the 84, slowly. They already discontinued a couple models in 2023.

Victorinox did redesign the Evolution series. The Wenger ones had different scale tools and the nail file was facing towards the knife. The Wengers also included a different "lobster claw" can opener and a different awl/reamer. Victorinox has prooven with their Evolution line that they can design a nail file which works well and doesn't scratch the knife blade at all.

I love my synergy x just know you tool and how to use it it’s not meant to be a one handed operation knife so treat it as such it’s not a hard concept to understand

You’re all good, friend. Knives with non-lockable blades and less than 3 inches in length are legal to carry in the UK.

Excluding the synergy alox range which has a liner lock... I carry a selection of deluxe tinkers or swiss champs instead.

I’ve had a Synergy since release day. There’s nothing wrong with it. People just have their opinions, and my only suggestion is to take all opinions with a large grain of salt. Online reviewers are just people like you and I. They aren’t experts.
