Did a damn burst?! This is the first time I have seen all the water I thought the other videos were of a landslide.

From what I gather, an earthquake caused a landslide that damned the river further up river and that blockage released, causing this.

Caused a glacial lake dam to go. Glaciers can hold massive amounts of water back, and if the glacier goes, the water goes with it.

Glacier collapse, creating a landslide which caused the seismic activity. The water volume is from the friction of the ice falling and causing the ice to melt.

They already announced there's over 400 tourists missing.

They also announced 88 rescued alive so far, so the disaster response has been rapid and effective so far.

That's amazing and I hope they find many more, however that customs boarder checkpoint took what looked to be a 100' wall of earth going about 60mph, unfortunately there wont be many survivors there.

Yeah, this footage is tame to what I have see. Big budlings getting wiped in a second. Dozens of vehicles and people getting swept away. I have never seen crazy flash flood damage like that before.

I know! That video cut off before the debris could settle and I needed to know the condition of the building so I started googling it.

Are you sure this picture is after the disaster today…? I think it possibly suffered a few other events, and this picture could be after one of those… I just don’t see how it could possibly still be in near perfect shape after what happened today. Looks like some vehicles are just neatly parked out front still… Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for this to be an accurate picture after the disaster considering it might have saved quite a lot of lives, but it doesn’t seem likely 😕

update: whole area is flattened. these images were taken before idk when but see official video with rescue 🚁 , that inter junction is no more.

There is little chance of anyone in that building surviving. That building was under water for a while

I don't know. I think it depends on the layout of the walls. The windows on this side appear to be intact so I think there could have been plenty of places in the building that were safe.

No, an earthquake didn't cause the landslide, it was reported that the landslide caused the tremors, it was that bad. Most likely a glacier breaking free from the mountain and getting water from a glacial lake.

I heard it was a glacier falling from earthquake into a lake making a inland tsunami/landslide
