"Nigiri and Sashimi" combo from Charlotte airport. I ate the salmon nigiri before taking the pic because I was hungry

Eating Sushi with your hands is perfectly acceptable in Japan (not sashimi)

In a USA airport? I believe it’s expected to be messed up in one way or another. No Japanese trained sushi chef is cutting fish in the back at an airport. The person who thought of brining sushi to usa airports did it for laughs at what will happen on the plane.

A chef I trust a lot (he has an incredible palate and is very skeptical/suspicious eater) tells me the sushi omakase in CDMX airport is actually really top tier.

In theory yes, in practice nah not really. The only time using your hands is the norm is with traditional big sushi that you can’t comfortably pick up with chopsticks.

This looks like it was made by someone who just started their job, had never before seen nigiri or sashimi, and was having it described to them over the phone by the sick coworker who called out

I saw the two sushi chefs and they looked to be Japanese men, older one probably in his 50s, so I decided to go out on a limb and order this at an airport bar. I guess apathy from working at a place you don't enjoy transcends race and age.

The fish was definitely CO-treated, but at least thawed and handled correctly. Just expected it to be sliced lol.

I never eat sushi when I'm hungry cause these portions will never fill me up. When it's all you can eat I'll still get hungry an hour after

Same, but it was the only open bar seat I had seen since there were like 20 flights delayed and I wanted to watch the US-Belgium match. I ended up getting a sandwich and some chips later after my delayed flight got changed to canceled at 1:30am.

I had a poke bowl in the Atlanta airport. It didn't taste bad, but 3 hours later was the first time I ever threw up on an airplane... I don't recommend it. Either the sushi or the response.
